I think I can actually hear some of my more cynical readers rolling their eyes at how easy and formulaic this probably looks. XD
But is that really the case? Where could this go? Consider every point Kellen has chosen to ignore thus far; what do you think Vincent can say to change her mind now? And is she even looking to redeem herself? I mean, yes, she's here seeing an expert on the subject and seeking answers. But is it to bring her family back together the way Rain originally wanted, or is it in the hope that she can find a way of doing it the way she wants? And even if she did try to redeem herself, could Rain still accept an apology at this point?
All that said, maybe the reality of losing contact with her family is setting in. Maybe Kellen is actually looking to reform. Maybe there is hope for her. But who can say? There are any number of possible outcomes to this. What do you think?
Well this was low on my list of likely outcomes, and on that note... DAMN YOU WEEKEND CLIFFHANGERS! Especially with the current 2 comics a week update cycle.
Somewhere buried deep inside all that stubbornness and blind narrow-mindedness and prejudice there still beats a heart. I sincerely hope Vincent can help Kellen free that heart!
Genuinely surprised. I can see Kellen doing this, actually. In the previous scenes, where all you see of her is when she is calling Aunt Fara, she seemed very concerned about her family, and trying to bring them back together. It's why I initially liked her.
So yes, I can see her listening and trying to better understand. Will it really work, or will she just pretend is the real question, for me.
It's like every other prejudice out there. When it becomes popular to not hate one of the "others", the ones with hate in their hearts don't just disappear, or change. They just learn to hide it better... usually.
Okay, so the session goes bafky for Kellen as she sees nobody is going to help her force Rain to be a boy. Also, the foundations of her bigotry, prejudice and misinformed definitions of sex (provided by society's patriarchy) are shaken. She's badly upset and runs out crying. She doesn't see a speeding monster truck or Hummer as she steps into the street. She is struck down and is DOA.
If memory serves:
Everything except the con and chez Kellen/Aiken are in Centerville.
Those two places are in a larger city nearby, but I don't recall the name. *departs for an archive-hunt*
I may just be bitter with tons of baggage from my own family, but I basically hate her so much that I want to see her suffer more than I want to see her reform herself.
Only two people on the last page guessed it, so bravo for being right. I didn't expect this development for a long time, if ever, so I was pleasantly surprised when I saw the page.
Wow, this kinda made me do a 180 on kellen. After the last page I totally hated her, but yet here she is actually making *some* kind of effort. Hopefully she at least sticks it out.
Actually, Fara and Kellen are about the same height, and Vincent's a little shorter than Fara. So naturally, he is a little shorter than Kellen too. He's a pretty short guy. :)
Not related to the page in question, but I just had a crazy theory. According to page 227, Brother Arthur has a brother he hasn't talked to and has said some nasty (read: transphobic) things to, which he regrets. Now the way religious titles work, is that Arthur would be his first name, so we don't know his last name. Now comic universes are usually super interconnected. Given Brother Arthur's words from pg 227, we are looking for a sibling who is a trans man, could it be that Arthur's last name is Valverde? Could it be that Vincent is his brother? Before you assume I am crazy, I know Brother Arthur is a lot older than Vince and Fara's age, but it's possible to have siblings which have considerable age difference. I know, it is quite an unorthodox conspiracy theory, but it's possible.
I don't mean to shoot you down, but Arthur's brother and Vincent are not one in the same. Brother Arthur's last name is Feltman, actually. We learn that waaaaay back in his first appearance, so don't worry, I'm not surprised people would forget.

In addition, like Anon said, Arthur mentions that his brother is named Will.

Now, it's entirely possible for a person to change their last name too, or change their name more than once, still making it technically plausible (albeit in a very convoluted way). But my intention was that Vincent and Will have nothing to do with each other. There are a lot of connections between the characters, but I wrote Will hoping to keep him his own entity unrelated to the main cast (not all trans people know each other, after all). Maybe he'll appear someday and meet everyone else, or maybe he's just a reminder that there are more trans people out there than a lot of people seem to think. ^_^
I was just taking a look at the comic page you mentioned for clues about if it's possible that Vincent is related to Brother Arthur and I don't think he is. On the page in question, (which is comic 226, not 227 by the way) Brother Arthur says that his brothers name is Will. So I think that makes the theory about Vincent being his brother very unlikely.
I've been giving the scene here a lot of thought. Lots. I keep thinking of what I'd feel as Rain. Assuming that Kellen does decide to pull her head out of her ass and try to make amends. I know what that kind of betrayal feels like. If Kellen were to try and make amends, I know what I'd say as Rain. I've been in a very similar situation. I'd say something along the lines of, "Apology accepted. I love you. But, you need to know I will never trust you like that again. If you're okay with that, we can move forward."
I thought for sure she wouldn't even show too. Sometimes people take longer than others though. Kellen ignored a lot of great points but that doesn't mean she can't change. Some people take years. Others take a month. Others understand instantly. It feels like my therapist has been helping my family but it's hard to say.
There is hope yet that some of the UNQUENCHABLE BLOODFLAMES of the readership may in fact be quenched.

Not really.
Also, it's "badly" not "bafky."

She's not. It's called perspective. Kellen is drawn larger in that frame for emphasis.
No, I don't really know that it's the artist's intention. I'm just guessing. Looks like it to me but webcomics aren't so exacting.
Ask the author.
It would make sense. Kellen's actually pretty tall.
Actually, Fara and Kellen are about the same height, and Vincent's a little shorter than Fara. So naturally, he is a little shorter than Kellen too. He's a pretty short guy. :)

Everybody is capable of changing for the better. I know I have.
