Potentially heavy page, but I'm not really sure what to say about this one other than that it's frustratingly real. It's amazing what people don't think you can hear sometimes.
I skipped my junior prom because I had no interest, but I went to my senior one because I felt like it was part of high school. It was totally NOT worth it at all.
I feel bad for admiring the art of the two guys' facial expressions and not focusing on the message.
Dammit brain, this is even worse than when I watched Star Wars and couldn't stop admiring the Emperor! *headdesk*
Are extras ever nice or even decent people? Or is that a trait reserved for plot-central characters?
Also, for people who seem likely to exist for one strip solely to be hated, and are even in black and white, those guys are surprisingly well-designed.
Also also... Le gasp, are we headed towards more Chanel character development? I'm feeling strangely optimistic.
-If memory serves, when extras first started being black-and-white, Jocelyn sad something like 'if I don't colour in a character, that means they're not important to the story'.
-Thus, they usually have one purpose. For example, back when Rain left the line to see Kaminari's creator at the con, an extra was there to protest that she would lose her chance to see the creator if she stepped out of the line.
-So, with most plot-central characters being LGBTQAI+whateveracronymyouwannause, extras are often there to say something homophobic/transphobic/sexist, be a target of fanhate, and then disappear.
-Because extras are not supposed to be important, they are usually the people who deliver the homophobic/transphobic/sexist remarks, since having a main character deliver them would be a plot point.
-In other words: extras are expendable, so they say the homophobic/transphobic/sexist stuff.
-And I hope that I managed to express my idea in a non-jerk way.
-Also, yeah, the black-and-white art is strangely pleasing to my eye.
For an extra to do something nice to one of our characters, there would need to be some reason they weren't going to reoccur in the story. Maybe an extra could buy someone food at the mall after other extras mugged the person. If there was air travel in the story, an extra could be someone sitting beside the traveling main character and say one nice thing before burying themselves in a book or going to sleep. Or maybe even just a friendly parting comment as they got off the plane.
It'll be okay, Channel. Just ignore them and quickly leave the area. Hold your head up, and don't let them see the pain.
For the one on the right, he may actually feel bad if he notices. But the one to the left... I have a feeling he'd enjoy it. Just going by their facial expressions.
