It's possible that Drew is overcomplicating things, and yet maybe Rudy's oversimplifying too.

Still, knowing the school's rules, do you think Ky could potentially get in wearing a tux? It seems almost too easy if that is the case, but surely there would be other ramifications (for Drew and especially for Ky). Or maybe she'll just be in girl mode that day and everything Drew's worrying about is completely moot? Or are there possible complications that can come from that too?

Oh God, that last panel! I'm dying!

I think that with all the coming out lately at the school, the staff will be rather paranoid about 'gays' and if Drew and Ky show signs of affection towards each other, they will be denied entry, with possible later ramifications/punishments for Drew.

....or maybe I'm just a weirdo who thinks like a paranoiac.

Same here, I just found it three days ago and i've read it all, from start to finish. Thank you Jocelyn, you've definitely given me a lot to think about and helped to answer a lot of questions i already had. Subbed.

I think Drew is totally in love with Ky/Kylie, but he's still way too caught up in worrying what other people think about him, and he needs to get past that. I for one, would love to see a breakthru in him getting over his hang-ups. And "roll with it".... that would be the healthiest thing for him.
Ranth 25th Nov 2016, 11:52 PM edit delete reply
I'm not sure there is a good "roll with it" option in this school. Taking Ky in boy mode likely isn't going to pan out real well if they both come in tuxes. It sounds like the type of drama both might regret having been in. They probably won't get to really attend the dance that way.

>If the *both* come in tuxes
Now I can't get the image of Drew in a dress out of my head xD
AmbiguousMouse 27th Nov 2016, 11:16 PM edit delete reply
Drew in a dress. This is the solution we've been waiting for.

Hey, if you're gonna get shunned by your classmates anyways, you may as well go all the way

The good roll with it option for this school is to skip prom.

Disclaimer: I skipped prom and never regretted it.
The Logical Conservative 25th Nov 2016, 8:12 PM edit delete reply
Here's my tips if you're ever going to a prom: (keep in mind this is written by a patriotic Dutchman who's never been to prom)
1. Hire/steal an army tank, preferably a M4A3 Sherman as that's a rather fast tank.
2. If that doesnt work, come to prom in military gear.
3. Why? Because it'll keep people away from you and your date, so no questions.
4. If you want your date to stick around, use pick up lines like "Baby, you must be German, because you started the battle of my bulge."
5. Profit and success.

P.S. Try getting that tank, it'll light up the evening!
P.P.S. I don't know where I'm going with this.
BlackSocks 26th Nov 2016, 4:45 PM edit delete reply
This is a genius idea.

"Hey, baby, are you a fruit? Because honeydew you know how beautiful you are?"
The Logical Conservative 27th Nov 2016, 5:39 PM edit delete reply
I don't know about that one, but my "Baby, you must be German" line gets the chicks every time, all the time.
Dandelions42 20th Dec 2016, 9:01 PM edit delete reply
I think that line could get anyone. Such magnificent wordplay and charm can win the attractions of all~~

I honestly think Ky could get into prom wearing a tux, because tuxedos aren't typically a specifically guy thing everywhere. We have formal band concerts where I go to school, and at least half the girls wear tuxes, just because they can. Even in school dances I see pictures of girls in tuxes. (Though typically purple or blue or something, I don't see many "plain" tuxes).
Guest 25th Nov 2016, 11:33 PM edit delete reply
Even if Ky could get in wearing the tux, I think the main problem is that Drew will face problems from everyone for bringing a guy to prom and "lying" to the school, and if he tried the whole "she's actually a girl" thing again... well... we've seen how Ky would take that. I don't know if Ky would be able to dress "as a girl" if they're feeling like a guy that day and get away with only minor dysphoric feelings. I wouldn't be able to do it personally, I'd be in agony the whole day, but I don't know how Ky does with that kind of thing. With luck, Ky will be in girl mode and they can both have a great prom.
Even if Ky is referred to as "Kylie" and "a girl" while in boy mode, I don't know if they'll be able to get away with wearing a tux. I don't know much about this school, but I don't know how well they'll take a "girl" wearing a tux, especially to prom and especially as a guest going with a guy. Ky did say that they feel like a boy more often than not at one point, right? It might be safer to have Maria bring Ky and Drew to bring Chanel, but I don't know how well that would work as Drew would have to be facing stuff from his classmates anyways if Ky is in boy mode and is going to be with him.

As for possible complications if Ky's in girl mode, the problem will be that people DO know about Ky from the Halloween party (if they make that connection) and if not, Drew has talked to Rob about it in the past a bit, and Devon and Holly know now and given the level of drama in this comic I don't know how much they'll spill. I definitely don't think we're having a drama free prom, here.

I think Rudy doesn't really understand where Drew is coming from, since he doesn't really care about classmate's opinions. And with Maria being out now, he might have lost that perspective of people preferring to stay in the closet. It's definitely not easy to just say "screw it, let people think what they want" regardless of how much you'd want to believe that.
BlackSocks 26th Nov 2016, 4:47 PM edit delete reply
Yes, Rudy has never really been the most thoughtful person in the cast either.

"If I can care zero about others' opinions, then there's no good reason why everyone else can't do the same."
Guest 25th Nov 2016, 11:36 PM edit delete reply
I also really want to know who Rudy has had a crush on in the past, aside from Rain. He strikes me as the type to fall in love easily, so he has to have had his share of unrequited crushes (unfortunately.) It does seem so far that everyone is getting into their relationships, but so far we have no prospects for Rudy. Poor kid.
AmbiguousMouse 28th Nov 2016, 11:33 PM edit delete reply
Rudy's story is about getting over Rain. And maybe possibly a subconscious unwillingness to accept that Rain is truly a girl - Rain talked a lot about that back in their breakup conversation, and all other things aside, her genitals were basically the first part of her he ever saw. But mostly getting over Rain. Throwing in a new partner for him so soon might destroy that story potential. Of course, I'm a bit jaded simply due to the treatment of Maria's crush own crush on Rain - it's possible Jocelyn might use a hypothetical Rudy relationship to squeeze even MORE drama out of his inability to get over Rain (hello clingy rebound story!), rather than using the relationship to "mend" him.

But anyway, we'll see what happens. This prom ought to be interesting, to say the least.

And I finally caught up. :'( Now I have to wait for the next one just like everyone else. ;p
Riley_05 27th Nov 2016, 12:33 PM edit delete reply
If Kylie is in girl mode on prom night, then Drew can take her and that's simple and easy.
If Ky is in boy mode on prom night, Maria can take him and Drew can take Channell, they can go on a 'double date' scenario so they can all go with their actual date.
The only issue with this is that the school seems to want people to order tickets with names in advance, and we can't predict Ky(lie)'s gender for the future.
If Ky(lie) is feeling androygynous on prom day then I think they are screwed since people will notice and ridecule them.
Whatever Ky(lie) presents as on prom night, Drew is going to get teased by his friends *STRONG GLARE AT DREWS 'FRIENDS'* as they have seen Ky.
So yeah. There's a lot of issues around any paticular scenario. So I am sorry to Ky(lie) as my prom was much simpler as I didn't have a date and people knew I would make their life a living hell if they judged me for wearing a dress.

Chanel* Damn you autocorrect
LifeShouldBeAMusical 28th Nov 2016, 12:24 AM edit delete reply
Anyone else hoping that Ky(lie) wears a tux regardless of mode, and just styles it femme/masc/androgynously? Because that is my hope.
General George S Patton 28th Nov 2016, 7:44 PM edit delete reply
How about he crossdresses? That way, Ky will be fine, drew will probably be fine, and they will have achieved victory against the school. The key to victory is deception!
Samantha 29th Nov 2016, 12:35 AM edit delete reply
General Patton, I am okay with this. Doing so however requires coordination (and probably help from either Ky or Rudy).
If Ky just shows up, we have no idea what will happen.
General George S Patton 29th Nov 2016, 6:28 PM edit delete reply
Correct, there is no victory without communication! We didn't defeat the Nazis with miscommunication!

feel bad for Ky... they have no idea how they'll feel that day... prudence would say to have both a dress and a tux ready...

*but* yeah... school isn't going to let Ky in unless they're "Kylie" that day, so...

would probably need to have Drew write his date as Kylie, and have one of the senior girls write their date as Ky, so that Ky can get in either way.
