Poor Ky could probably really use a hug. Maybe not from Drew though...

Although he did stop to explain to Drew how that made him feel. He could've kept walking, ignoring Drew's every word, but he stopped. But why? Is he letting Drew off easy? Did he just want to say his piece before leaving entirely? There's a lot of gray here. What do you think? And in Ky's position, do you think you'd bother trying to talk, or just keep walking?

Next week, we'll be cutting to another scene (sorry), but we will be checking in with these two one more time before the chapter ends. By the way, for those of you keeping track, we're about forty pages into this chapter so far. And we're only a little more than half done. Honestly, I had half a mind to classify the next page as a brand new chapter as it has sort of a different feel (and there are fewer scene jumps coming up). However, it still focuses on the same themes in the same setting, so why waste a day with a new chapter cover? So what if it ends up being a 60-70 page chapter? Let's just keep it going. XD

God..I feel bad for both.
To an outside party it may seem weird, but in reality Kys fluidity isn't weird. That must be a CRUSHING feeling not being yourself

With Drew..well I've made crucial mistakes that have had me become very regretful. I can see how he feels to.
What he did was a mistake, but like he said, he panicked. I still have hope for drew tho.

I definitely get where Ky is coming from. Most days I feel like a girl, dress like one, do my best to hide the bits that bother me, and just face whatever the world throws my way, as long as they call me a girl, they can all just go jump off a cliff, repeatedly.
But there are the few days where I just don't, and I don't want to go outside, or talk to anyone, because I don't want to ruin what I've worked so hard on. So I dress down, go a little more androgynous, and on those few days, being called a guy doesn't bother me, though I more feel like a they on those days.

"My sister who's only recently coming around on this"? Did I miss something...? I know she talked to Jessica about how she felt bad for how she treated Ky, but I don't recall any reconciling between the two of them personally.

Heather bought Ky a binder for Christmas. They talked about it then. The scene was probably overshadowed by everything else in that chapter though, so I'm not surprised that anyone forgot about it.

Such a heavy page for the weekend.

I think Drew got off too easy. You do NOT out someone like that, even if it is to save your own skin. Besides, Drew forgot the one rule "Gender Displayed is Gender Referred By". Ky was in boy-mode and as such, for all intents and purposes, is a boy. (As for the bathroom issue, disabled toilets are your friend. If anyone questions you, just say that you have claustrophobia and that normal cubicles trigger it)

At least he didn't do something horrible, like accidentally call Rain "Ryan" while at school. That path leads to pain and sorrow for all involved.

Drew doesn't know Rain is trans.

I see this a lot from LGBTers - as soon as someone makes a mistake, they're instantly shredded for it, even if they don't understand what they did wrong at the time.

LGBT folks and their friends talk about gender identity, fluidity, androgynous behaviour, preferred pronouns so often that it forms part of every day language. We know the rules. We follow them. We know why they're there.

If we take someone like Drew, to whom even the simple term "gay" is regularly used like an insult, then is it really reasonable for him to fully understand the complexities of genderfluid terminology and manners after only the briefest of conversations?

All I'm saying is that a mistake made from ignorance shouldn't be as harshly punished as one made from deliberate malice. Unfortunately for Drew and a lot of other people, learning about stuff like this is often done the hard way, with second chances being few and far between.

Not sure if Ky is letting Drew off easy but kudos for telling him why it is wrong

Does anyone know what comic # / page number Rain: Volume One ends on?? If you could let me know that would be great thanks! :)
Jocelyn 28th Feb 2016, 8:06 PM edit delete reply

Volume 1 goes from Chapter 1 through 6.
Volume 2 goes from Chapter 7 through 14.
Volume 3 goes from Chapter 15 through 22.

Also, all three contain an exclusive bonus chapter not available online.
I hope that helps. ^_^
