And some more new backstory for Emily's self discovery. She's a very complicated girl. XD

In case you were wondering, no, Carver has never been mentioned in the story before now. Although he has been very vaguely alluded to as one of the "handful of people who know" about her orientation (after all, if Maria didn't know before Rain and Ky, who else could have possibly known). So none of these flashbacks are anything we've seen. I may post color versions of those panels at some point though, because Emily looks really cute in the green junior year collar. Admittedly, it doesn't quite suit Debbie or Devon as much though (they definitely look better in blue).

Also, this was originally a two-pager with the next one. So if this feels incomplete, that's why. I mostly split it just so the scene could end on Friday (because I'm committed to keeping that going).

Actually, they should only come out to Rudy. Everyone in school will know that "dude, she's a pan", right? It's super effective! XD

Congratulations for having your SRS scheduled! ^^

"Among other things"

Curiosity engaged, rampant speculation beginning.

How can there be "among other things" though? Isn't Pansexual already all the things?

Well, she does know an awful lot on 'how to be best ally' for Rain. Perhaps she's not inexperienced? ^.^

Or maybe he was polyamorous.

Oooh, or maybe he was secretly able to change into a superheroine. That would be Magical. ^.^

Not... quite.

I can imagine a few other things that he could potentially be, especially stuff that Emily is best not telling other people about.

I know it's just a coincidence, but Carver looks exactly like Hisao Nakai.

Oh, I have some questions about your SRS... and I know you said you were planning on updating about it, but would it be okay if I asked? What technique is she using? Is it the buccal cell one? Would you mind sharing some of the things you went over together? How does insurance work?

I'm still kind of shopping around, so to speak, and it's been kind of a nightmare of research and getting all the information together...

@Zii

Yes! Questions are welcome! I'm happy to answer anything as long as I actually know the answer. ^_^

I'm not sure what the "buccal cell" technique is, so I assume that's not the one she performs. Dr. Rumer refers to her technique as "one stage", in that everything is done in the one surgery so no followups are necessary. Also, "clearing" is not necessary beforehand as she takes care of it during the procedure (if you know what that is, you probably know that's a godsend). The end result of the surgery may vary from person to person (as that part would vary on cis women too), but she promises good form and function. From the pictures shown, everything looks amazing and I'm completely satisfied. Also, her wait times are really fast and reasonable. I made the appointment on Friday, and it's just three months away. According to some friends of mine, some surgeons have wait lists going out two to three years. All around, I'm excited.

I'm still kind of agonizing over insurance paperwork (with my luck, this will go down to the wire so I can sweat whether or not this is happening until I check in), but it's really just a matter of contacting the insurance company and finding out what they need to see to approve this, and getting it to them. Usually, it's just letters of medical necessity from a doctor and two therapists. I've heard that sometimes, they'll require a letter from a urologist as well (I'm not really sure why). Luckily, my oncologist specializes in urology, so even if that comes up, that'll probably be easy for me to work with.

And yeah. I hope that helps. Don't hesitate to ask anything. I'm always glad to help if I can, and I know how stressful it can be to look at the options and make a decision.

@Jocelyn

Buccal cell uses cells from the lining of the inside of your mouth for construction, but is still highly experimental and I don't actually know of anywhere that uses it. Not without a lot more research at least.

Oh! Okay. I've actually never heard of that, but that's very interesting. I assume the mouth cells are for moisture/texture purposes?

Anyway, Dr. Rumer definitely didn't mention anything about that during the consultation, so I think it's safe to say she doesn't use that technique.

There is great interest in this as a possible technique because the cells on the inside of your cheek are almost, if not exactly, identical to the cells inside a natal Vagina.

Though, this is probably 10+ years out from being a viable option, and will likely require lab grown tissues, but it does show promise. (even if early tests didn't go well)

By that point though, expect 3D printing tech to have made leaps and bounds, and it may just not be a worthwhile option at that point.

Also, I looked at DR Rumer's website and was kinda surprised at the lack of examples of before and after like most surgeons have.

Yeah, definitely confer with someone if you feel like coming out with them because they might not be so hot on the idea. People will generally come out when they feel safe doing so, it's generally not a good idea to mess with that.
