Yay a main character I can identify with orientation wise, it's nice to finally know what her sexuality is and I'm sure she finds it great to tell someone (if she's not out).
I think this was a necessary conversation, it needed to be said so that they can both move on. I also think that Maria would be happier if she stopped dwelling on the past and holding a grudge against Emily and just moved forward with her life.
I think it's healthy for the two to have this conversation. Past relationships usually don't mend into friendships easily, but this should aid them both in getting to a point of reconciliation and into a normal friendship not tainted by past breakups.
