Really intense page. I don’t envy the choice Gavin has to make. Mind you, as the writer, I kinda had to make that choice for him. For the record, I actually had to script it in BOTH directions a few pages just to see which way I liked things better. It wasn’t easy, but I’m satisfied with my choice…
…I mean, Gavin’s choice.
But seriously, if you were in Gavin’s shoes, how would you approach Rain?
In my opinion Gavin has taken the whole scenario rather well. With the exception of the theoretical event of him being 100% accepting from the get go, his reactions couldn't have been much better then what they were given the extreme situation, but could have been FAR worse. If I was in his shoes, his arguments in this page probably wouldn't be much different from my own.
In the end an apology would be the right thing to do if he desired to ever resume the friendship, but it doesn't change the fact he was lied to. The apology would have to be two-way.
What would I do if I was in his shoes? First I'd try to understand why I was acting so transphobic in the first place. That doesn't sound like me at all. Maybe it wasn't me? Everything points to the fact that I was just recently put into this body, possibly as a part of some thought experiment...
Yes, this comment was probably inspired by xkcd 429. :D
If I were in Gavin's shoes, I'd... never have gotten where he is now. To me, Gavin is making too much of this about him.
I just don't understand his point of view. He acts as if Ryan lied to him. But not telling someone something is not lying, otherwise we are constantly lying when we meet people.
And even if Gavin was Rain's best friend years ago, that doesn't mean he should know everything about him. And he didn't even recognize Rain, and Rain didn't recognize him until he mentioned knowing Ryan. So even if you do believe that withholding is lying, which I don't, There would have been no reason for Rain to explain herself to him in the first place. And so many years have gone by since they were childhood friends, that they have both changed since then.
There friendship has a chance to renew. And unlike Rain's friendship with Maria, Gavin's and Rain's friendship should/could/would have had a solid foundation to start with, if Gavin would just stop being angry and upset, and resume being Rain's friend, instead of making her feel unwanted.
On a side note, how do you draw your comics? It looks familiar for some reason.

Again, just my own opinions. Great page as usual.
