Just in case you didn't get enough phone action from the last update. XD
And while we're waiting for the next update, let's reflect once more on Chase. Is it necessarily bad if he knows Emily's pregnant? Is there a chance this news could turn him into a responsible father figure? If so, what would that mean for Emily?
Alternately, what if he doesn't want this responsibility? Would he skip town to avoid being roped into child support? Would he try to push Emily into terminating the pregnancy? Is there a chance he could become dangerous?
I am aware that there's not enough information to say anything for sure. I'm just interested in hearing your initial gut reaction to all of this.
I think Chase'll deny his responsability. He'll probably leave Emily's life forever, to avoid getting involved... That's my guess, anyway. I don't really see him as an adult...
Chase is a bad penny that keeps popping To me he seems selfish and shallow. And that could either push him to try and avoid responsibility, or try and get involved. I can see either path getting messy. It would be best for all if he spends the rest of his life on the other side of the country whining about paying child support.
He probably will go with then worst aspects of involvement and indifference and make a mess of things.
Chase isn't the type of person to be a father. He has commitment issues; he broke off his engagement to Kellen for reasons yet to be revealed and he didn't wait around after Emily broke up with him he was with a new girl the next time we saw him. He's also immature given every instance we have seen him he is doing something childish or immature like giving beers to highschool kids.
Now here's a thought - what if Kellen had fallen pregnant while she was with chase? She told him, he flipped out and split and Kellen had to have an abortion? That's pretty solid grounds for hating his guts...
My instinct is that Chase is going to be VERY afraid of sexual assault charges coming out of this situation (aren't Emily's parents/mom wealthy or something?) which would advise him against doing anything violent, he might try to skip town, depending on how financially stable he is (he is a college graduate or still a student its never been quite clear to me) and where HIS parents are in this picture. I doubt he's going to skip town from a narrative standpoint because he is quite close to the boundary of finding out about Rain's past, but that doesn't guarantee he won't, you've shown in the past that your narrative intent is to show all of life's quirks, which could include Chase never being heard from again. (although he HAS been calling Emily an awful lot, so thats even less likely the case than purely for narrative reasons)
"Not enough information" is a way to put it. Chase shows behaviour driven by motives I myself don't understand, so he's a black box to me: I can see a little sample of the inputs and outputs, and have only the crudest, ad-hoc model of what's going on inside.
My initial gut reaction to Chase is, I hope he starts thinking about the consequences of his actions, but I wouldn't bet on it happening any time soon. If it does happen, I won't hesitate to cheer for him, but "practically thrives on chaos" sounds a bit ominous to me.
Speaking of that, my initial gut reaction to this particular update is to hope that if Chase tries to gain leverage over any one, the whole thing blows up in his face. There's still a lot he doesn't know about the situation, so there's still lots of room for him to make a mistake and give us that glorious backfire I'm hoping to see.
I have the same assessment. I don't think he's a bad guy per we, just one who doesn't think through his actions and... will lie to look good... And... ._.
So, he's really insecure. Maybe this is waking him up some, since he very much tried to call Emily a bunch. Her ignoring those calls might mean trouble for her if Chase starts knocking around or trying to go through her friends, who don't know that she's pregnant.
Ugh Chase.. I know his type too well. Either he'll disappear from Emily's life entirely or he'll use their child as leverage and lord it over her, making her miserable.
Zero chance of him becoming a responsible father, and I'm kinda expecting him to try to get involved and cause some kind of mess. I don't really see him wanting visitation rights, so I'm guessing he'll pressure her to abort. Then when she says no he'll throw a tantrum and refuse to ever pay child support.
Well, no one in this comic is named Adam. "I wouldn't know him from Adam" is just an expression basically meaning "I do not know what he looks like and I wouldn't recognize him if I met him."
He probably will go with then worst aspects of involvement and indifference and make a mess of things.
On an unrelated note I hope Gavin-Ana's sub-arc involves Gavin's dad and his boyfriend (whose name escapes me), would love to see more of them!
A fine pair of ships to add to the fleet!

Oh jeez, Emily. ;_;
