I've been talking for a while about bringing shirts back for sale, and I mean for that to happen real soon (like if it's not set up today, then tomorrow). And with better quality, more sizes, more cuts, and more colors. So look forward to that. Plus, in addition to some returning designs, I'm trying my hand at some new ideas - of which some will be available at launch, and others will periodically come out over time.
This is one such idea that I've come up with since seeing responses to the reveal of Rain's new look a few weeks ago. A lot of you have been very willing to adapt to it, but there's a lot of resistance too. And I want to stress that it's okay to not be used to it; change can be hard, and sometimes we need time to adjust to it. But I do see an awful lot of "that's just not Rain anymore" or "Rain's not supposed to look like that." That kind of thing troubles me a little. It's one thing to be upset because she didn't want the haircut. But saying it's "not Rain" is very unsympathetic and really quite cruel to Rain. I hope no one would say stuff like that to a real life trans person. Like, if I were to hypothetically cut my hair short today, I hope no one would say, "you're just not Jocelyn anymore." Now, I'm not trying to call anyone out or say you're a bad person if you said something like that. Rather, I just want people to think about it, and realize what the implications are.
And that's what this piece is about.
It doesn't matter what she wears or how her hair looks. It doesn't matter what her voice sounds like. It doesn't matter if she's wearing makeup. It doesn't matter if she's presenting herself female, or she's stuck wearing drab. It doesn't matter that she hasn't started hormones or had any surgeries. What matters is who she says she is. She calls herself Rain, so she is. Rain is always Rain, regardless of anything else. And that's the same for any trans person.
If people like this idea, I'll make it a shirt. And if people really, really like it, I'd be interested in adding "Always Vincent" and "Always Ky" variations to the mix as well.
People freak out all the time whenever they see character designs change, especially after 5 years of the Cyclops hairstyle (my personal name for it). I love it when characters change their look (probably one of the reasons I like Doctor Who) so it's like Christmas for me.
I think it's very interesting, I'm cis myself but I got a trans friend,he's awesome, and he's always been the same person to me, regardless of haircut, clothing style, etc and as for the comic it was shocking and sad,to believe someone like a sister would do that to someone in their own family, how much she HAD to impose her views on her little sister, and how sad that made Rain, other than that I hope she can cope with it, this is an awesome comic you are making and I really like it!!!
I'm personally not very fond of clothes with text or images on them (I'm boring ^^). But that's only a personal preference, and I think many Rain Beaus would like to wear such shirts.
Indeed, Rain is Rain. She looked cute with her old hair style, and still looks cute with the unfortunate cut. I will miss the "Cyclops Fashion" but she sure is rocking the new style.
OH EM GEE I WOULD HELLA BUY AN "ALWAYS KY" SHIRT LIKE THIS! *ahem* I would also totally buy the Rain one, but especially Ky, because Ky is my favourite.
I'd love to get one of these! However it's also a long time before I can order one without having to explain to my parents why I want the shirt which cannot be done (mega sadface). Would like to see some of the other designs too, they seem chill.
Among the five shirts I've put up today, there is one with the Black Wings Kaminari logo, and another with the Toaster on Fire logo, which should both be pretty safe (if either of those interest you). But I would like to add more subtle designs for my readers who might want to support the comic/me but aren't out yet.
Obviously it's a terrible violation of trust for her sister to have cut her hair, but I also think she looks even better with short hair so there's that as a silver lining haha.
I have to be honest here. I really liked Rain's hair more when it was long. Her short hair is not bad per se, but not even close to the awesomeness of long hair Rain. Still I understand from a storytelling perspective why it had to go, and I can't understand why some people apperantly got really upset and hurt by it. Rain's hair getting cut is an important part of her story and I am glad to be able to read about it.
Also an 'Always Ky' sounds great.

There will be other shirts with no words on them available, so you may still find something you like.
I love you, Jocelyn! <3
