This may be hard to follow, so to sum up:
The child ends up being little Ryan (in regular, non-fantasy clothes). Rain mostly goes back to normal upon seeing him. Kellen attacks by throwing a dagger at a no longer armed Rain, who jumps to the defense of her child self. And then her wings are severed in the process. It's a LOT to take in.

Don't even worry if you don't get it all. It does all mean something (I'll leave it up to interpretation for now), but it's presented so quickly and is so weird. I really wanted to capture that seemingly unstructured randomness that even the most "plot driven" dreams can devolve into. At least, that's my personal experience. I have pretty strange and vivid dreams though.

Also, I strongly considered blood on the last panel for dramatic effect. Even now that it's posted, I'm still humming and hawing over it. I mean, it would have purpose. It wouldn't be just for the sake of having blood and violence. However, it IS a bit intense for the usual mood of the story. I think for what I'm going for thematically, it would make more sense, but I know I'm already shaking people up with these last few pages and decided to go the safe route. Thoughts, anyone?

Anyway folks, the dream is almost at it's end. The next page and those following are extremely heavy, and may be triggering for some. Please by mindful of that, going forward.

Rain, all characters and all other aspects of the story are copyright material belonging to me.

I forgot to mention this in my original blurb so I'll just make this new post and hope people see it:
After this chapter, there will be a one-week hiatus. The last update for the chapter will be July 6th, and then Chapter 26 will begin on July 15th. I actually have some Rain Delays ready to go, so hopefully maybe it won't feel like a hiatus.

And the purpose of this is to work on Volume 3, so it's not exactly a vacation. I'm just lightening the load for a little bit. Sorry for the inconvenience, but thanks for your understanding, Rain Beaus. ^_^

I think not having blood is actually better given the context of the symbolism.

I like the decision not to add blood. It would have purpose as you said, but its more symbolic without it. The wings are more than something physical to Rain, and in losing them she loses something more than just the wings. The blade severs more than simple flesh, it severs the foundation of who she is.

Dammit, now I'm tearing up. Why does this page hit so close to home?

I agree that not adding blood was a good call.
As for the meaning of the page... it is far too deep for speculation so I'm going to wait for Jocelyn to tell us the true meaning

Relatable. I'm sure I'd say something like this if I saw a transitioned me. It'd be an happy moment! ^^

It's a good thing Rain protected Ryan (well, I say Ryan, but she has always been Rain). She accepts her whole past, and not just her life has Rain, even if it was not very pleasant. That's important, isn't it? ~

Not having blood is alright for me. The second page is already dramatic. Also, the point of the page is more about Rain protecting Ryan from the symbolic knife than Rain being harmed (even if she certainly suffered a lot because of her family trying to cut her wings, and her true self with them), I think.
That's only my interpretation, though.

I really like these pages, because they hit close to how I've felt during my transition. Seeing in the mirror everything I was, am and will be, when I look for it.

And honestly on the blood, I had to look at the previous panel to figure out if the red blur was blood or the red handle, so I really like how close a line it treads with what you have here.

yeah, its a bit ambiguous actually. personally i would have liked some actual blood but it looks like im the minority. so this is the best possibility

I feel like her losing her wings in this dream show how far she's gotten in her life through identifying as Rain, it shows that she's not tied down to her past anymore, she's accepted herself for who she is now and is one step closer to being what she considers as her normal self. She's no longer Ryan, she's Rain, and she's happy about that.

My interpretation about the blood: I didn't pay that much attention to panels 10 and 11, so I imagined the knife as one of those ninja stars, and the red handle (which I only recognized as such after another commentor pointed it out, but could still be both the handle and blood mixed) as the blood that was in it's way. This is all happening so fast, the blood flowing out just isnt out yet, which is why this panel isn't all red (which would be bad to read anyway).
