Although Rain and Emily are nowhere to be found, keep in mind that the text is all italicized, so this is actual dialogue from Rain right here. She may be shy, but man, can that girl talk when she's into the subject matter.
If we want to be technical, Rain's already gushed about Kaminari way back in Chapter 2. If you thought she said a lot then, keep in mind she kept it to a single panel. This fleshes things out a bit. Does that mean the story of Kaminari is actually plot relevant though? Sort of. Pretty much everything in there is symbolic (whether to the comic itself, or the themes within it), so there's actually a lot to take in.
Artistically, I've gotten used to drawing Kaminari a lot. The rest of her party, I'm still pretty new to (but it was fun, finally officially working these designs out). We've seen Aneko and the back of Hokori in a rare manga page sighting back in Chapter 3, but that didn't make this any easier. I tweaked Aneko's design a lot in particular. It's similar for sure, but I thought her original look was a bit blah compared to how flashy Kaminari was. Hokori's design meanwhile is almost entirely based on a character from an abandoned story of mine from ages ago. I think he fits pretty well here. Rei was completely new. I made him up as I went. He's not my best, but I still kinda dig the way he came out. Especially his staff. ^_^
It's no secret that I love me some Final Fantasy 4, but that had no bearing the kingdom's name. (It might have had bearing Kaminari's hair color though. Rain obsesses over her about as much as I obsess over Rydia.)
The kingdom's name was originally going to be called "Tori", because it's the Japanese word for "bird". But after a lot of time thinking about it, I wasn't sure how well that would translate to a non-Japanese speaking audience. I was afraid people would be like, "That's a person's name, not a kingdom's name." As a result, I tacked an extra letter on at the end to make it sound different. I don't think it means anything anymore, but it does sound more like a fantasy place.
And then someone on DeviantArt exclaimed their sister's name was Toria in response to the page. So I guess it's still a person's name. XD
As far as prejudices go, it's more so meant to be representative of transphobia (because that's what would be pertinent to the story of Rain). Obviously, it's not exact, but there are a few notably analagous points.
Whoops. I meant to mention that. The farmers offer to take care of the baby. I'll edit that in later.
And what I mean by "the only one on the surface world with wings", I mean winged people don't live on the surface, so Kaminari isn't likely to come across any more as long as she's down there.
Unfortunately, there is no agender character in the story at this time (nor one planned for now). Doesn't mean it can't happen, but I just haven't made such a character yet.
Sobsob. *phooeys*
I'll just try adopting anyone that looks cis if they do anything that looks the slightest bit inept at or rejecting of any gender roles like I was for now. I know how invisible we can be.
Oh my gosh oh my gosh oh my gosh!!!
Do you plan to do a comic/fiction on this? I just love the concept
Though I am wondering why we do not see more winged characters in it, as you mentionned in the begining that they can easily go from one side to the other/that black winged children sometime survives
O m g this could totally be turned into an awesome webcomic! *rolls around* O-O unless it is one already o-o .... just the thought of a story with such a tragic start that leads to goodness just makes me ...... OuO
Also, would you mind if I actually wrote this as a fanfic? I'll obviously credit you and link to Rain, but I just love this concept so much. Also, Kaminari x Aneko!

If you mean that you want to do like a fanfic, sure. Go for it.
If you mean that you want to tell the story of Black Wings Kaminari, then no. I might still have plans regarding that.

*referencing to Marias original reaction*
I see what you did there xD
Kaminari— Rain
Hokori — Gavin
Aneko — Maria
Rei — Rudy
Also I read “leaving it in ruin” as “leaving it in RuIn” XD
But the symbolism... is this confirmation that maria is going to leave home due to her parents homophobia?
