Oh my god! It's the other characters! Remember them? Between the fact that they haven't been relevant in the last fifty pages and the two month hiatus I had from being sick, it feels likes it's been forever!
Okay, so maybe it's not everyone. Surely, there are (at least) two questions on several peoples' minds. One being, "Wasn't Ky meeting up with Drew at some point?" The other being, "Where's Gavin?" To both those questions, I offer only: "You'll see."
The script originally called for Ky to slip up and out Emily's orientation. Just kind of a reflex response leading to everyone finding out. I decided against that considering Ky slipped about Emily's pregnancy not that long ago too. So, I instead had him almost slip here... only for Rudy to chime in that it was unlikely. Ky then goes for the save with a fake yawn.
Also, in case you hadn't heard: after a recent visit with the oncologist, there is more surgery definitely in my future and more serious than last time (details another day). This will probably mean another lengthy hiatus (though I hope not as long as last time). I don't have a surgery date set yet, but obviously I'll let you know as soon as I do. Either way, I'm just gonna keep on posting for the time being; I've probably got at least a couple weeks until then. I just want everyone to be aware.
I don't like asking for help, but donations and book sales would probably help me out a lot at this time. Don't sweat it if you have nothing to spare, but if you can help, anything would be most welcome. Thank you.
Question. I just noticed Jocelyn and everyone else in the comments refer to Ky as "he," though it does say "she" in the character list. Is she now identified as a boy primarily or is it just whenever she's in boy-mode we use a different pronoun?
Well Ky's never made any statements regarding what pronouns to use. As such, no one really knows for sure, but I, and apparently others, just go off of however Ky's presenting at the time. That may turn out to be wrong, but at least Ky's a fictional character so it won't be a big deal if it turns out to be incorrect (it also means we can't ask him anyway).
Ky is quite lax and has never stated a preference, so I leave this up to individual discretion. What I tend to do is use female pronouns when she presents female, and male pronouns when he presents male. In other words, I use whatever wouldn't out her if I were there with her. Singular they is also acceptable. Some readers also refer to Ky with gender neutral pronouns like zhe or xe. Whatever works best for you.
Statistically, I'm pretty sure a majority of people like girls. Between the straight boys, gay girls, bi and pan people of either category, and presumably a similar proportion of nonbinary folk, plus whatever number of aros/aces that have a preference... I have no idea how much of a majority it is, but I'm fairly confident in the claim.
Also, I LOVE Maria with longer hair like that.
EDIT: Wait, I think Ky slipped the pregnancy to Rudy, but not her orientation.
Technically, Rudy doesn't either (he has no idea his sister dated Emily at one point). Hence his doubt. ^_^
And yes, I'm loving working with Maria's growing hair.
