In case any of that wasn't clear enough, Maria's talking about the comic, Rain, not the weather. Yes, I just can't take it any more. Posting needs to start back up or I'm going to go crazy. My days are entirely unfulfilling when I don't have anything to post. I've been feeling better for a while after all. I'm just waiting for results that are almost definitely good at this point. In short, there's no need to keep putting things off. I'm ready. You're ready. These characters are ready. Let's do this already!
So, let me just say it again without the euphemisms so that there's hopefully no confusion: Rain is starting back up next Monday, December 8th. It will resume it's previous posting schedule of every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. And it will pick up exactly where I left off (except that was the end of that scene, so expect to come back to different characters). In addition, I'd like to avoid further hiatuses for a while. The coming chapters are big and important, so I'd like them to flow without any more interruption. Although this last point is harder to guarantee, I can tell you after two months of being a layabout, I don't think I'll need a break again anytime soon.
And that's all there really is to it. I hope you're all looking forward to Rain's return. I know I am.

As Nemz says, queer is an umbrella term to address a diverse array of orientations and identities. It's a popular term because it's both more inclusive than merely saying LGBT, as well as less of mouthful than acronyms that DO feature more (but oft still not all) demographics.
While yes, it is still often used as a derogatory term by homophobes and transphobes, it's not technically a bad word. Kind of like how homophobes will still call something "gay" but we overall haven't stopped using that word as a totally legitimate way to refer to someone who is indeed homosexual.

Dyke can be offensive too, but again, I believe that depends on context. Many lesbians (myself in the past when I identified as one, included) actually do refer to themselves as such sometimes. Not in a self-deprecating way; it is often playful or even full of pride. In this particular usage, Maria's saying that is just a reference to a popular page from a while back, where she proudly announces that title. Nothing derogatory about it in that context.
Truthfully, when it comes down to it, words only have as much power as you allow them to have. And again, a lot of these words end up having different meanings depending on context, how it's said, and who says it (and I can promise you, I mean absolutely no harm using them in this instance or any). I'm not telling anyone how to react to things, but I might suggest that people not allow words to affect them too much. Just my humble opinion.
If you look at it from the viewpoint of someone with no experience and only the reference of their sheltered, 'normal' life, being other than straight seems kind of queer, using the classical meaning of the word. If you keep in mind that original meaning, even when someone uses it with the intent of being derogatory, accept the accurate part of the description, and move on. Someone tells me ' Man, you are weird !", I just say 'Thank You !' and move on. I have brought variety into their life, and possible enlightenment; yay me !
Seriously. I was happy the DLC for destiny was coming next week, but honestly Rain takes priority over that. You have made my week jocelyn ^w^ and to that I must say Danke schön (thank you)
Just this morning I finally made an appointment to begin HRT on the 8th.
And now Rain is coming back the same day - I discovered read the entire thing from the start in about a week while it's was on hiatus.
Agh, I'm so jealous, Emi! I'm waiting until I'm 18 to start looking into it. I truly wish my family would take the time out of their day to help, but oh well. Also, Congrats!
I started HRT while homeless, with no family, and no job. I live in the US and STILL managed to get what I needed, and for free. I'm not saying anything about HRT is easy, i'm just saying that if you truly want it then you WILL get it.

Black people are famous for the use of a certain word that any other ethnicity would be scrutinized for using. Same situation with LGBT.
Also, I absolutely love this page. It's one of the best "update" pages I've seen in the last 10 years of reading webcomics.

I have a crush on Maria
Rain is my favorite comic on the internet.
