Rain's line amuses me. And Kylie too, apparently. XD
Kylie's response to her label(?) is interesting. She doesn't know. To some people, that probably sounds absurd, but it's not really that uncommon. I mean, there are plenty of people who actively don't know if they're gay or not, or trans or not (I myself have been unclear on my orientation for some time, for example). And Kylie's already been sort of established to not really be up on the lingo and also unsure of how to define herself. Furthermore, I never envisioned her to be the studious type (much less, research things on her free time).
Also, I've said this before, but I'm trying to raise money for SRS, and I'm still struggling with it. If you can help, it would be most welcome. If not, don’t worry about it. I totally understand (you don't need to feel bad or apologize if you can’t).
I can kind of relate to what you said about Ky. Genderfluidity, aces, pansexuality, bisexuality and agenders are horribly underrepresented in media. I didn't hear about asexuality for the longest time. If I hadn't stumbled onto a site mentioning it, I probably would have felt like a freak or weirdo, like something was wrong with me, once I reached the age where sex is considered a major part of life.
Rain's line is actually totally factual; she doesn't want to share anything, even though she has stuff to share.
I'm kinda genderfluid, kinda genderqueer, kinda straight and mostly lesbian. It's weird in the extreme. But, meh, I have an awesome boyfriend, an awesome girlfriend and I'm in a happily poly relationship, and as long as my sweeties are both happy, I'm happy ^^.
Yuki-chan, I was thinking the same thing. Emily seems to know her stuff and is totally non judgmental about it too. Starting to feel like She would react the same way to Rain if she knew.
I wouldn't say she knows. However, I think she's definitely smart enough to at least suspect as much. For instance, in the last panel, her gaze does look like someone who's caught on, but isn't sure.
To put it differently, I don't think she knows Rain's trans, but I think she does in fact strongly suspect as much. Obviously, though, it's not something she'd just randomly bring up. (Humorous as that thought may be. :P)
Given how knowledgeable she is, I'd say she definitely doesn't care if Rain is trans, though. As others have stated, the largest problem would be in her feelings towards Rain not telling her sooner, and even then, I don't think she's the type to hold that against Rain. She seems largely understanding, and knows exactly why Rain would be as hesitant as she is.
Channel is asexual, if you remember. She's not an aromantic asexual, but she is asexual. I suppose you've got a point, in that the more, the merrier, but it's not entirely absent, at least.
(Emily clearly has some odd background, though whether it's Someone She Knew or simply spending lots of time in certain corners of the internet like tumblr/fandom/RPG.net/webcomic, I don't know... I like the idea of the latter as it fits me; cis straight male with mostly "boring" friends but a lot of reading in odd places. Or she stumbled on an odd term once, spent an hour reading Wikipedia pages, and has a good memory.)
This is from far in the future, but I just want to make a point that there's a difference some people have between enjoying different presentations and also feeling different ways. For example, Rudy/Ruby's been clearly established as Gender Non-conforming, but still feels male. Ky/Kylie sometimes feels female, and sometimes feels male, and will switch presentation to match. Sorry, this is just really important to me, since it's helped me get more of a handle on and more confidence in my genderqueer self.
I was sure that Emily's reaction to Kylie would have allowed Rain to feel more at ease with sharing with Emily.
But then, it's not a lie. It's an omission. They are not the same. The only way it'd be a lie is if Emily asked Rain, "Are you a transwoman?" And Rain answered "No." back.
I'm kind of disappointed in Rain. Sure, there was a pattern of reveals. But it sounded to me like there was an opportunity to probe Emily for some information. If I was in Rain's place, I'd have asked about genderfluidity, knowing it's a related concept. Worst case scenario, we find out Emily doesn't know anything particularly interesting. But a far more likely scenario is, we learn that Emily is comfortable with trans* issues.
Weird. Over the past six months or so, I have gotten into two relatively long-running webcomics, and both of them had genderfluid major characters learn about gendefluidity from someone else in comics from 2014, which coincidentally was when I was realizing that am nonbinary.
(In case anyone is reading this and didn't already know, the other one is El Goonish Shive.)
Ky(lie) is me honestly. When I came out as genderfluid, I was a guy like 90% of the time. Now I don't care what I am. My friends will ask, "what are your pronouns today?" and I honestly won't know.
round of applause for emily being a great ally once again! seriously, it feels so good when emily clues people in on the right terms, because it feels like we´ve been watching them be ignorant for so long and then emily finally says what we all knew all along.
That's one of the things I really like about this comic- just because they ARE mostly LGBTQ+ doesn't mean they KNOW everything about it, or themselves. They're teenagers figuring stuff out, and they're written like it.

One part I feel is missing is the lack of asexual support, although they arent really part of the LGBT community... *officially anyway

"Neat"
The best. D:
