I know. Kind of an intense way to start the chapter.

But what can we take from this? We never had a straight answer on Kellen's opinion of Rain. Is it better than Aiken's or worse? And what about Aiken now? Is he really okay with Rain now, or are things still potentially messy there?

And most importantly: what about Rain herself? Even if they were apologetic and being totally accepting, would Rain be so willing to let them back into her life so soon? If her siblings do as the cookie suggests, how well do you think things would go right now?

Rain, all characters and all other aspects of the story are copyright material belonging to me.

I'd like to add that the RainComicStore is going through some changes currently, so the catalog may look a bit different.

Also, I've said this before, but I'm trying to raise money for SRS, and I'm still struggling with it. If you can help, it would be most welcome. If not, don’t worry about it. I totally understand (you don't need to feel bad or apologize if you can’t).

Aiken's finally trying to make an effort? I wouldn't say he's okay with it yet, but at least he's trying to make an effort (or at least talking about it). The fact he used "her" is a big improvement over his last appearance (though almost anything would be an improvement from then).

Kellen, though, is still trying to avoid it. I can understand her concerns: "Rain" is a bit different from "Ryan", and she hasn't seen Rain yet. She grew up knowing Ryan and thinking of Ryan as he lives with Aunt Fara, and suddenly he's a she. Plus from little we know of their dad, they weren't exactly raised to be open-minded about, well...

...Was there anything positive their dad taught them...?

I've kinda seen it before, when you have a strong opinion the only thing which can make you start to question it is when you find someone with the same opinion but much more intense.
Eg: Person 1 "I don't like trans people"
Person 2 "Yeah I think they're disgusting and an abomination."
Person 1 "Whoa, hey, they're not /that/ bad."

that´s actually a very interesting observation. I wonder if I can use that in the future...

Highly emotionally charged page this time. Go Aiken!

I'm fortunate enough to not have had anyone act like Aiken or Kellen did when I came out. In fact, everyone's pretty supportive.

Hmm, Aiken moved out of their apartment.

When he first came to visit he was confused/freaked out, but civic, and willing to try to understand. His progress from bare tolerance to cautious acceptance of Rain is realistic in my opinion. He's fine.
Kellen is odd one, she doesn't seem to have reason to be suspicious of transpeople (so far shown), but obviously approves even less than him, and if she got similar upbringing as Aiken, why would she take things worse than him? (Their dad hardly taught them anything, and I don't think they keept what he did in their hearts)

In any case, they hadn't "lost" their "baby brother" - this is the same person, her "role" just changed - as many people do over time. My sister and mom were taught (harmless!) lesson of trying to treat me like a little kid.

It would be interesting if they both met with Rain, Fara and Jessica. It would be Aikens job to stop Fara and Kellen from each others throats. Not this chapter though - that would hardly be quiet weekend.

Maybe "Quiet Weekend" is an intentionly misleading title

The Chessmaster
Wow. He started up on the proper pronouns really fast. That usually takes people much longer, even when they're okay with it.

Aiken, you almost got kind of close to somewhat earning my forgiveness here.

When did Aiken see Rain being Rain?
Jocelyn 4th Feb 2014, 9:58 PM edit delete reply

Chapter 13, in general.

I somehow totally forgot about that. Thanks for the link!

Aaaand Aiken has just lost total d**k status xD
ranger_brianna_new 5th Feb 2014, 2:03 AM edit delete reply
My hope here is that Kellen's going to realize that while she doesn't have a baby brother, she never lost anything--that her little sister was there all along.

So much to catch up on. Now Rain's family have found out...I'm lost. I'd better start from the beginning again.

Ugh. A certain family member of mine is in a position kind of like both Aiken and Kellen. The whole "I feel like I've lost my son, and I'm not willing to give up on him" mess.

Kellen's position is frankly difficult for me to understand. Rain is the same old Ryan they know and love, just more conscious of her true self than before.

I think maybe kellen might feel as though accepting who she sees as her brother as female, makes her less of a female? I'm glad big bro is back, I felt for him when he left the comic last time, I just knew he wasn't as bad as all that, (when faced with an unfamilier situation we fight or flight.) I'm glad to see he's ok too, I waS rather morbid about the possible worst case senarios he could of ended up in.

Did Kellen just misgender Jessica?

Jocelyn 6th Feb 2014, 3:49 PM edit delete reply

Yes, she did. Intentionally.

It's actually really nice to see her family trying though. To be honest my sister reacted much the same way as Rain's brother. (My parents weren't much better)

I know family and even friends feel like they are seeing such a new side that I "feel" like a completely different person (though as friends got over their initial shock they found my interests and hobbies were nearly the same)

I think the fact that we struggle so long colors our pre-transition personality and afterwards the more content and centered person combined with the shock of voice and appearance is just dramatic enough.

I'm glad to see that her brother is having this kind of conversation, I hope it's the positive kind that takes place in time with families that take it the hardest.

Btw, love the comic. Sorry for the long comment XD

why does everything work out for her in the end??!?!!

shes so aweshum doe. :3
Jocelyn 3rd Apr 2014, 1:18 PM edit delete reply

Well, it hasn't ended yet. So that's kind of a hard statement to make, I think. ^_^

Aiken's moving toward the positive. But slowly.

Kellen, however, has lost some Lexi love. I give her a little, due to her not actually seeing or talking to Rain, Fara, or Jessica. She only has what Aiken has told her.

I literally squealed when Aiken used the right pronoun. I knew it’d happen but YES!

The Aiken arc is painful but it's really cool watching him slowly come around!
