Ah, here I go mixing serious and silly on the same page again. It’s actually kind of a nice balance I think, since I can offer you a little bit of everything. And speaking of “everything”, this is a VERY important page. We learn something new (or at least have something clarified) about nearly every major character.
I had actually typed up an excessively long blurb here (as usual) to spell things out a little, but I should really learn to stop doing that. So how about YOU tell ME what you learned about everybody? ^_^
Reading this for the first time...I know it's supposed to be largely comedic, but Rudy outing everyone to everyone is actually kind of uncomfortable.
I mean, what if he tells the wrong person? Sure, he seems to have been "lucky" for now in that nobody decided to spread these things through the entire school, but that's far from guaranteed.
about the issues raised by commenters seionara and szarrukin (great names!) i was thinking on this read through that rudy's unbounded exuberance is only really active in contrast to his sister maria. i too found it strange that he was saying maria tells everyone the story about her and gavin getting together, when maria is the one that doesn't want to be outed at all. but after consideration it is simply a mutual sibling dynamic, rudy helps maria by taking center stage and exposing the character of others, maria gets to look out for rudy with the best of her peers for support.
this comic does have a few moments with many of the characters saying things where somebody would surely hear enough to become intrigued, though that is an issue alot of media takes artistic license. otherwise many pages would be devoted to the pauses while characters move away from others or wait for a classmember to leave. in my opinion that is like watching them scratch itches and pick their nose.
so, i would like rudy to be exonerated. i would like to think the moment after running up to maria and gavin to proclaim what he'd seen he actually lowered his voice to confide in them. i would like to believe his most outrageous moments are on behalf of his closest and dearest. and when it's a full motion picture, i would like him to look carefully all around with an excited look before blurting anything at a considerate level!
Why does the teacher in the first panel remind me of "Prince Charming" from Shrek? Also, Best, Friend, Ever. I want a friend like that to explain why I'm a furry, cause I suck at that.
"Let's see why he's a furry...cause he's a furry."
Ok, so that doesn't really count as "learning", but still, it's awesome.
