Hey, look! Everyone we haven’t seen in a long time! :D
As Jessica says, it can be a nuisance to be trans and gay. There’s one question in particular that any of us in this situation have no doubt heard. And that’s something along the lines of: “What’s the point of transitioning if you’re just going to date girls?” (or vice versa for gay trans men). I’ve heard it more than a few times myself.
So, I actually wanted to include this nuisance of a question, but I felt like Rain’s friends wouldn’t really be the types dumb enough to say something like that. Some of their commentary or questions are still pretty asinine (in fairness, most of them are hardly experts on the subject of trans matters), but that particular question doesn’t normally come from the open-minded crowd.
I like to imagine that immediately after the panel showing her being told, Maria's eyes suddenly sparkled while Rain somehow remained beautifully oblivious. :)
Also, totally unrelated, but I was browsing through the character page and came up with a crazy crack theory: Ana is actually Allison, but she had to enter the Witness Protection Program and change her name. That also explains why she relocates so often, and why she's a year behind school-wise. Also, I don't think Allison ever appeared in color, and her picture on the character page makes her look like her hair's probably blond.
Yes. That is my new headcanon for Ana until her actual backstory is revealed. :D
I hear that very same question all too often. I'm pansexual with a leaning towards females(just prettier to look at), and my friends have all asked me why I would bother with transition at all.
I've gotten the "if you like girls why not stay a guy" from my brother (he's not that enlightened on trans issues but he also said he would love me no matter what)

I love your theory, it is the perfect plot twist.
Ah yes, *this* again. The one thing that always sticks out the most is how people always go "Well what do you think of me? I want to know." Its always said like they're entitled to the answer to that ridiculous and idiotic question. I guess that is just heterosexual/cis priviledge - not being asked dumb, inane questions about your sexual orientation and preferences.
I chalk up Aunt Fara's reaction, which carries that little quip, to trying to get Rain to sort this all out before she goes public about something she's not even sure of yet. It seems to be her type of spin on the tough love approach.
I was asked "If you're gay, then why are you trans?"
I was kind of amazed. The guy who asked apparently understood that being gay wasn't a choice, but somehow being trans is?
I'm not trans or gay, I'm genderfluid and bi, but for a while I did think I was trans and bi, and it felt.. I don't know. It felt like I was "overdoing it" with the layers of LGBT+. Even now, I'm afraid to come out because I still have this distant feeling of "too much LGBT+"and I'm afraid that others will feel the same way.
BTW, I knew I was trans since I was at least sixteen. But then everyone started telling me you /can't/ be trans and gay and since I had no support system, I spent the next few years confused and frustrated. Then I forced myself back into denial and I'm 32 now and it's only been the last few years I've started to figure things out. All it took was an employee transitioning to say "you can be gay and trans" for me to be like "fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu" and now I'm a mess =) So gatekeeping is dangerous because I've been miserable and I've wasted so much time.

"Are you sure you're not just gay?"
"No, I am, just for girls."

(also genderfluid technically falls under the trans umbrella)
