Here’s a riddle for you: if a girl hates boys but is not a “lesbian”, yet (very) interested in dating a particular girl, what is she? It’s not really meant to be a secret like so many other developments in this story though. I kinda wanted to spell it out here, but I just couldn’t seem to work the word into the dialogue in a way that felt natural. I wanted to really stress how awkward and out of her comfort zone Chanel was even talking about this, no matter how eager she was to pursue it. So, I felt it would be kind of out-of-character if she could manage to articulate and pinpoint her feelings.
But there is a word for it, and it’s the first time this demographic is being addressed in the story (and I must say, I’m happy to include it at last). If you guess it, I won’t deny it. Otherwise, it will be revealed officially a little later.
Oh yeah, so MarNel is official now, I guess. It was kinda predictable (many of you jumped on that bandwagon the second they started talking again), but pat yourself on the back if you saw it coming. ^_^
And now to bombard you with obnoxious links! Go here to order a copy of Rain - Volume 1 today! And then here to vote for "Rain" on TopWebComics!
And if you’re feeling really generous, you can also go here to make a donation to your favorite poor transgendered webcomic artist. Thank you if you do. No hard feelings if you don’t.
And I thought everyone else was confused. But at least Rudy and Maria know their orientations, while Gavin is attracted to transsexuals and Kylie and Rain...
Generally when we're talking LGBTA+ stuff or orientation or any of that, or basically just referring to humans in general, "asexual" means "uninterested in sexual relations" or "not attracted to anything really". (However, I aspire to one day having the ability to reproduce asexually as well, with Science. It'll be cool.)

Thanks for the link (=^ェ^=)
And yeah, I think it might be platonic love. That's how I started with Frankie. Eventually, I realized that I didn't care about gender or anything else. Well, physical gender, I mean.
Anyways, I'm sure Frankie will put your advice to good use.
I can't wait. Her first time passing in public >w<
Er..... I'm rambling. Sorry. Ill shut up now σ^_^;
Well, I wish her the best. I know how scary it is going out into public that first time, and how surreal it feels. She just needs to be calm, and act as naturally as she can. I know that's easier said than done, but it's something that comes with time. I'm sure she'll do fine. ^_^
Also, "asexual" also means bearing no sexual attraction to either gender.
I do not think you have addressed this yet but Chanel is a diffrent ethnicity than the main cast. Is She part Native American or Is She Hispanic not that it matters I just was curious because she is noticeably darker than maria. If I offend anyone please know it is not my intention to I am just curious
Almost a year late on these comments...but the comic strip has at least one commenter now who can vouch that asexual scientifically can mean reproducing by oneself, but like many other things in today's society, it has a new cultural meaning. Not all people can look at anyone in the gender spectrum and automatically have a thing for them.
Asexuality introduces romantic spectrums too, so...
Although Chanel might also be herm and/or demisexual/homoromantic, but that wouldn't grant this reaction, I think. lol
A better term would be "intersex", for someone who naturally sits outside the physical sexual binary we currently adhere to an understanding of. Or "nonbinary" for someone outside of the gender binary.
Both of these, however, could identify as lesbian if they so wished. Anyone female, femme-aligned, nonbinary, who loves women exclusively, should be able to ID as lesbian if that fits with them, IMHO.
Chanel, on the other hand, was showing significant awkwardness around the idea of sexual activity (which I'm guessing she expected Marie to be hoping for with her) and is much more interested in dating and a romantic relationship. So I pegged her as asexual, maybe homoromantic, or even bi or panromantic.
(There are ace lesbians, too, by the way! Some people identify as lesbian because they have exclusively femme attraction, even when that attraction is solely romantic or platonic, coupled with ace-spectrum attraction aspects too.)
Asexual reproduction actually has a new name! Or several; but, agamogenesis is one. It's more scientifically accurate and less frustratingly confuseable with asexuality as a sexual orientation - to prevent further taunting of ace-spec people with questions about whether we reproduce by mitosis or whatnot.
Asexuality is defined as an absence (partial or total, depending on where on the spectrum someone falls) of sexual attraction. This doesn't mean an absence of sexual interest or libido - many aces feel that way, too, but others are very sexually active! But it means not experiencing attraction to any genders.
I believe it's called demi-sexual. While you can have a preference, you don't typically like someone for their gender. You start to like someone after getting close to them, romantically I mean
...
Actually, everyone's confused.
You do realize that "asexual " means that you can reproduce on your own, right?

That is all.
Human.

Yep. Chanel is Hispanic. It's not really a major focal point or anything; it's just what she is. ^_^

She's not a lesbian. She's just interested in a certain person. Love is love. It's up to us. It doesn't need our labels.
