So, first off: welcome back to Monday updates, everyone. As of today with this post, I'm returning to the normal three updates per week schedule. If you're wondering why this isn't a PAGE, I will say "yes, I am stalling, but no, this is NOT a hiatus." Chapter 11 WILL begin this week. ^_^
But let's get to the point here. What you're looking at above is the fabled Rain: Volume 1 (forgive the terrible picture quality, mind you). And it is SO real. Before you get too excited, I should warn you that I'm afraid it's not TECHNICALLY available yet. This is, however, a clear sign that it's coming!
A little bit of backstory: I'm self-publishing. Most comic publishers are apparently shallow as crap; according to what I've read, they're "not interested in well-written stories if the art doesn't meet a certain level of quality." And yeah, I have faith in my ability to tell a story, but I'm an exceedingly "eh, okay" artist at best. So, between that and the fact that and that none of the publishers I LIKE are accepting new titles at this time, it seemed like self-publishing was the way to go.
So, I had it assembled and listed privately so I could buy the first copy to see how it comes out. Having never done anything like this before, I didn't know what to expect. So I wanted to have the first copy in my hands to make sure everything is right in book form before making it publicly accessible to everyone. After all, I don't need so many people buying it, only to find something beyond my control got screwed up (like every page is cropped or the text illegible or something).
Honestly? It looks pretty glorious. It's black and white (color print is ridiculously expensive for no reason), but I think it looks classy, myself. There are a couple little kinks though. The blurb on the back cover is ever so slightly cropped. I have a table of contents, but I forgot to number the pages. I think I'd like to actually shade the front cover. You know. Little things. But yeah, besides that, this is REALLY close to being available.
So, what can you expect from this book and why would you want to buy it? Well, Rain: Volume 1 contains a whopping 222 pages (although I still have time to add more). This features the first six chapters of the story and all Rain Delays associated with them. Also, there's some bonus art (some of which can be found on my DeviantArt account, and most of which has NEVER been seen before). But probably most important is the 25-page exclusive chapter, titled "Chapter A: Ryan", which will delve a bit into Rain's life before she was... well, Rain.
So I hope this is exciting for you. I know it is for me. I'll be sure to keep you all posted on progress and the exact date that this will come out as soon as I know.
Heheh. Come my friend, I give you many things for that book you have. Take your pick. Seriously ......please, I want that book......when does it hit the bookstores !!!! TwT
Oh, and congratulations!! I wish you good luck with the next book. And the next one, and the next one and the next one. Well, you get the idea. ^w^
There isn't an exact deadline yet, though I'll keep you posted. I would like for it for it to be sooner than later though. Perhaps within the next month?
Ohmygods, fangasm!! I'm totally going to preorder a copy when they become available to the public! I love this comic so much, I'm so glad it's becoming a printed book! >w<
Congrats! I tried doing publishing with Xhilbris or whatever the name was, but the profit percentage didn't meet my expectations. They'd get, like, 95% and I'd get 15% or something. I AM considering Lulu, though. But what self-publishing did you, do?
I'm using Lulu. Honestly, so far I really like them, and I would recommend it for other people. Their profit system is kind of wonky (I get it, but I feel like it's hard to explain). Still, I'm certain they offer more than 15%.
Awesome. Since book 1 and 2 are short, I'm thinking of meshing them together. Book 3 will be longer though. And I think your book is gonna sell real good. ^^ Hopefully mine will, too...
I've been reading this on and off for awhile and finally caught up. Day 1 for me on that GN! I am publishing my own volume 1 in October ;) so I know how exciting that is!
I had a book printed on Lulu once (full color back when a 16-page colored book was cheaper last decade) and I think the quality is superb, but their pricing is way too outrageous for color these days!

And thank you! ^_^
