Crazy page. So many points I want to make! I’ll focus on the big things.
Brother Arthur’s explanation of how he figured it out actually has a second purpose, moreso from a technical standpoint for me as the writer than anything plot-related. For the longest time, I got really hung up on how Rain could be enrolled in a school like this when her legal name doesn’t match the name she goes by. After all, I’m relatively certain such documents must be presented upon enrollment; the fact is, I don’t know if in real life anyone COULD go through high school without ANYONE knowing who they are. Members of the faculty would probably have to know. It’s a minor, forgettable hole that one could easily overlook because it IS fiction, but I guess it bothers me. Hence, this sort of explains it. Sort of… ish…
Also, I changed the dialogue SO MANY TIMES on this one. This page may have won the award for most dialogue rewrites of any in the story thus far. From Rain’s reaction, to Brother Arthur’s speech, I probably spent a literal day pacing around my apartment working out this dialogue. It’s still a little campy towards the end, but I think I generally like it for the most part.
Anyway, big important page. But I hope you all like it.
He didn't turn straight. His classmates have assumed he did because he's dating a girl, and he's really just playing along. He is still plenty gay, in actuality. His attraction to Rain is just deeper than sexuality.
Oh, wow. I can't believe I didn't make this note before; pansexual is a thing. He can have a preference for men, but still be romantically attracted to women (As is Rain's case).
i think that he'd actually be a gay panromantic, as pansexuality implies sexual attraction and the term panromantic represents romantic attraction to all genders
Brother Arthur is officialy my Hero... to not only be a Religous person who is understanding but to also risk his job so that Rain and Rudy can be themselves is awsome. I would give anything to have someone like Brother Arthur say what he says here
As far as my school was concerned, you could have any name listed, but you had to change your name in the system to whatever is legally on your birth certificate by January of your senior year. I don't know how different this would be with private school though.
If they'd gotten Rain's name changed legally, getting the transcript names changed and the doctor's note would be trivial. But that's obviously not happened.
A trans friendly school system could have provided paperwork with the updated name, and still been someplace that Rain would've wanted to move from, because of all the people who knew her as Ryan. And her aunt could've easily gotten a new job somewhere and had to move - especially if she just got her teacher's license.
But in this sort of school, it's really helpful to have a faculty friend, even if they can't be public about it.
It probably won't be shown in the comic since he's just a minor character but I really hope that Brother Arthur gets in contact with his brother one day.

'Rain-homo-sexual'?
Ok, that sounded cooler in my head...
