Okay, so Rudy is indeed being a bit apathetic towards his sister and his friends, but here’s the question: Is he really wrong?
Hypothetically speaking, if you have a crush on someone - and so do three of your best friends - do you back off in favor of making your friends happy or do you pursue your crush? If you said you’d back off, would you change your mind after a significant amount of time has passed with no one doing anything? Is there an okay amount of time to wait? And if your crush gets asked out and swept away by a third party that isn’t among you or your friends, wouldn’t that just be a thrown away chance for you and everyone you seeked to help?
Deep page. I’d love to hear your thoughts on this. I feel like I haven’t proposed an “in their shoes” question in a long time.
I agree! I've never really understood that "ownership" thing where people stand back and crush secretly...high school all over again! Really, if you like someone, either make a move, or don't get mad when someone else does. Even if that someone else is your friend.
I have to agree with Rudy.
1. Because I agree with him.
2. Because he's Rudy.
3. Because frankly I'll side with any argument if the one presenting it is the only person in the room acting calm and rational.
It's really annoying, I am that person for most of an argument but after a while my shield breaks and I start screaming. This is why despite me being much more reasoned my brother is always remembered as the cooler headed one and i apparently have a "short fuse"
I definitely have to disagree with Rudy, primarily because Maria, Gavin, and Kylie's orientations actually correspond to Rain's gender, and any of them asking her out or even dating her wouldn't be a step backward for anyone involved. Further, the main reason Maria and Gavin hadn't made moves yet seemed (to me, at least) to be that they wanted to give Rain space to figure things out for herself.
To be honest, I don't think Rudy is being very considerate of anyone but himself here.
I think in the end it burns down to the individual like or dislike
like - a hetero sexual oriented person does not fall for any person of the other sex
likewise a homo sexual oriented person does not fall for any person of the same sex
and the same goes for bi or any other
so - if there is one human being you fall for - it should be totally irrelevant what sex or gender this human has!
If you fall for him/her/them/whatever - the best you can do is fall in his/her/their/whatever arms!
rudy is no longer rudy he is a completley different charachter and for that i no longer feel respect for him as for maria i think i have to feel as much sympathy as i can
If you have a crush on someone - and so do three of your best friends - you should pursue your crush. And by "you" I mean all four of you. Poly FTW! :D
Rudy has a point but he still an ass. The reason you don't do something like this without at least warning your friends that also like someone what you are about to do. It's like his cross-dressing, it not the action that's wrong, it's not talking to the people involved first. In this case it might have ended the same way but at least they would have known and he might have been able to get some of this out of the way before asking Rain out.
I agree, he has a point. But the point is that the others shouldn't just wait around, wondering and crushing.
He himself, it will never work for them. The best he can do is be a smokescreen, and that smokescreen is going to dissipate, fast.
I also don't really like how cold and analytical he's being. I mean, I don't need him to be irrationally emotional about it, but sheesh. This page chilled me.
I completely disagree with Rudy. Maria and Gavin were being respectful and letting her figure things out for herself. Rudy just said, "Nah, fuck it, I only care about what I want. Incredibly disrespectful to both his sister, Gavin, and Rain herself.
And there is a time period; whenever Rain feels comfortable. He put her on the spot in front of everyone. He's been making dick move after dick move. He's worse than Gavin was in the early chapters.
So it's 4 years into the future from where I'm sitting, but I thought I'd leave a comment here anyway. Because the question is interesting.
I'm on the side of Rudy.
There's some comments pointing fingers at him for being inconsiderate, but if it's been 2 months, as he is making clear it's been, then, well, really, the others did have a fair time in which to make their moves. And Maria pretty much did, even if it wasn't understood.
I think it would have been better to give the others fair warning.
But. He is making clear that he is willing to take the consequences. And I, personally, like that. He's willing to take a risk.
Considering who Rain is, and the kinds of things she is worrying about.. having someone who accepts her for both who and what she is, clearly likes her, and makes his stance clear, willing to face whatever consequences that may result.. I think Rain really really needs that at this point in her life and in her story.
It will probably not hold up forever, as has been pointed out.. but, for now.. this seems to be a good match. I think it can work out -very- well for at least a while.
Def on Rudy´s side here. If you like somebody, just tell them. Rudy did that, and the others got themselves into this situation by being passive about it, especially when they know there´s competition. And why are y´all upset with him for being ¨cold¨? It´s called approaching a situation rationally.
1. Because I agree with him.
2. Because he's Rudy.
3. Because frankly I'll side with any argument if the one presenting it is the only person in the room acting calm and rational.
