The name Chiaki Koizumi actually has a lot of history for me. It originates from one of those silly name generator websites where you type in your name and it tells you what it’s (supposed) Japanese equivalent is. Mine was, as you see here. Truth be told, I really liked the name though and it grew on me quite a bit. So much so, I ended up later using the name as my character in a online role play.
My choosing the name again here as the name of the writer for “Black Wings, Kaminari” is significant though. Since it’s a manga, the writer had to be Japanese. Chiaki is a Japanese name, but I openly accept it as MY Japanese name. As such, in the alternate universe that Rain takes place in, I’m still writing and drawing, I’m just doing it another country. And thus, I am the creator of “Black Wings, Kaminari”. ^_^
As an aside, I’ve teased that depending on how much buzz it gets, I may consider writing “Black Wings, Kaminari” when Rain is finished. That’d be years from now, of course, but we’ll see. Either way, if and when that happens, I will probably go the whole nine years and write it under that pseudonym. I’m a complete and total nerd like that, after all.
And I apologize for those who’ve taken the time to read this blurb as it was pretty largely tangential and went absolutely nowhere. ^_^
Excuse me if this is answered later, as I'm only on chapter 9, but if Chiaki is the in-universe, Japanese version of Jocelyn, does that mean Chiaki is also a trans woman?! Imagine how happy Rain would be if she found out her favorite author was just like her!
Loving this comic, though! Keep up the great work, Miss Jocelyn.
