Absolutely. Just doing better because she's learned and grown and it's the right thing to do. <3 Similarly, she's not asking or demanding anything from Rain either, just hoping it's enough to allow her sister to allow her back into her life. So proud of her.
I think it's the best way to go about a reconciliation without any (unintentional) author implication Rain "ought" to reconcile. Rain probably has heard at least some of this growth second-hand from Aiken and decided she wanted to give her sis a second chance. Kudos to Jocelyn for successfully walking that fine line.
I'm glad things turned out this way, because forgiveness is an important quality. Did Kellen do a HORRIBLE thing? Undoubtedly. But she is showing true remorse, and an effort to change. I think it's important to show that even someone as flawed as Kellen can improve on a second chance.
Aiken almost misgendered his dad but caught himself at the last second. I like that detail. It shows nobody is perfect and that even the best of us can make mistakes.
On the one hand I'm glad that after such a betrayal from Kellen that she could mature and be a better person
On the other hand I think of my situation with the sperm donor and what he did (not getting into details but it was because of him that I didn't come out as trans when I was 14)
I do not think I can ever forgive him and quite frankly he doesn't deserve it
i mean, if he was that bad, he sounds more like a Marcus than a Kellen, at which point, yeah, he doesn't deserve forgiveness.
Kellen is actively trying. she realizes what she did was wrong. she's apologized for it. she is fixing herself. in my opinion, she's earned forgiveness.
Six years is a long time. This is really impressive development for Kellen. It turns out anyone(*) can be redeemed.
(*) Except Todd, Marcus, Norman, Quinten, Ana's mom, Ky's parents, Rob's parents, and probably other people I'm forgetting about. Additional terms and conditions may apply.
So Lorcan is Liriel/Rain's actual Dad. Mark was only ever just a sperm donor.
Because the surname Flaherty came from the sperm donor I didn't expect the guy to go full Irish on us. I was expecting him to pick a name more like Lionel. And I had presumed Kellen and Aiken were named by the donor. But there's nothing that says he couldn't be Irish as well.
Come to think of it I can't recall any place in the comic where you specify that tidbit of family information one way or another.
Oh, wait. 🤦🏻♀️
I need to go with the obvious. Lorcan was Fara's brother. Fara's surname is Bryer. I didn't realize before how the family name sounded Irish. I was only thinking ice cream.
But I have no explanation whatsoever as to how the name Liriel didn't tip me off.

Okay, you read my comment referring to parenting style weeks ago. But I am very well aware that we all have differing experiences. And my way to address the parent question is not the prevalent way.
That being said, regardless how it may sound related, at least superficially, this is apart from that.
Lorcan's take on the parent question is exactly what I expect from a guy. Never mind how he carried three babies inside his uterus for a total twenty seven months, birthed, then fed and nurtured them. Oh, no, not as a Mom but he was an excellent Father. Repudiate any semblance of sounding even slightly femme.
We can all just forget the fact how NOBODY is absolutely one hundred percent male nor female. 🙄
It's a masculine attitude.
My take is that motherhood made him a far better man. But that's just me. I understand how others will differ.
But one takeaway from all this is that you're very good with character development and realistic. Even when done on the oblique.
technically only 18 months. kellen and aiken are twins
and he did live as a mother, yeah. but he didnt want to. he never got to live as a man, so his dying wish was that they would remember him as the man he never got to be. maybe he'd be fine calling himself a "mom" if he was still alive and able to transition, but he didnt get *any* transition, he never got to live as a man at *all.* this is the one thing he had and he doesnt even get to experience it. "repudiate any semblance of sounding even slightly femme" he never got to be masc in the first place. he lived "femme" his whole life, this is his final escape.
and whether you call yourself mom or dad when trans is highly individual. like sure in some cases you play a biological role, but what about adoptive kids? can a dad not be a dad if he didnt sire his children, or vice-versa, a mom cannot be a mom just because she didnt carry them? and considering how you call mark a sperm donor, his siring of the siblings does not make him a father by your standards, but lorcan was a good parent so his biology defines what title you think he aught to have? it seems kinda weird to me. i feel like the core of being trans is that your biology doesnt determine what social gender titles you aught to use, so its weird to me that you feel it should apply specifically in reference to child rearing-aka, the function of our biological sex in the first place.
i totally support trans women who like to be called "dad" and trans men who like to be called "mom" but that is more of an exception than the rule, imo
I'm so proud of Kellen rn. She really grew up in 6 years.

She has made so much progress, and I'm so proud of her. BUT! I'm still angry about how things happened a while ago.
But in your defense, I read the following chapters, too. And I put the links xd
Seeing Kellen's growth makes me especially happy.

This is giving me mixed feelings

I guess I was making the comparison to not being in contact for 6 years
He is definitely a Marcus not a Kellen
Sorry for the confusion
I am slowly healing and dealing with the damage he caused, I hope to be able to move on like Rain did last chapter
Heck my girlfriend started as a cute stranger on the internet 🙂
I appreciate your kind words and kind offer
I will keep it in mind
