I was originally going to give the new bunny another "rain or water themed" name. But I decided it'd be cute if - contextually speaking - it was Lydia who named him. I imagined a small child looking at his spots and being reminded of a chocolate chip cookie, and decided to name him Chocolate Chip... but they all just shorten it to Chippy. So, the running name scheme is ruined, but the cute kid got to name it, so who cares. XD
It's just a simple page of cute bunnies being cute, but this one also chokes me up a little. As you may know, Puddle was inspired by our first rabbit, Zilla, who is no longer with us, as of 2020. Chippy was inspired by Alphonse, our second, whom we lost the year before. When I decided to include a second rabbit for Rain, I thought it might be nice for the two of them to be a little memorial for late babies.
I hope I didn't bring the mood down, though. It's still meant to be a cute page. ^_^
"Husbuns," adorbs! And I love that you teased the return to Rain with the final chapter with those top three panels but discreetly changed Liriel Rain's hair color in the second panel. Sneaky sneaky!
Children and their naming choices are always an interesting can of worms heh. This one worked out though, I'd say! ^_^
Losing pets is never easy, and I'm glad you got to memorialize them with this lovely page <3
My childhood dog’s name was Chocolate Chip! I wanted to name him just Chip after blue tortilla chips but my parents convinced me it should be Chocolate Chip and for short we all called him Chippy. He passed away a couple years ago, teared up a bit seeing his name. Sorry for your loss Lynn <3
When I began reading Rain in early 2014, I had just gotten a pet rabbit. She died about 11 months ago and every time I see Puddle, he reminds me of her <3.
i love that you are honoring your pets this way
and it's so adorable that Lydia named the bunny
but alas, my inner word nerd weeps. we could have had petrichor. i always thought petrichor would be a cool name
A friend pinged me on discord yesterday at 5:39 pm, my time, bc someone had mentioned a webcomic I should look at. Today at about 11 pm, I have finally caught up on Rain. (Don't worry y'all, I took breaks for eating and hydrating and sleeping!) I wish I could say why I couldn't stop reading. Maybe bc it's part of the history of LGBT struggles over the last 15 years or so. Maybe bc it's impressive as hell that this has been consistently updated over that time period! Maybe bc of hyperfocus. Maybe it's a combination of those.
Or, well. Maybe it's bc I'm also trans and picked "rain" as a name. Yeah. That probably has something to do with it.
I can't really put it in words and that always frustrates me, bc I feel the need to be able to explain things, but this just. Feels important to me, somehow. Like I needed to hear this.
Jealous that Rain gets those cute boots! I want...!
Also, those buns. <3 Those husbuns. They clearly deserve all the best hay. And Chippy is absolutely a chocolate-chip -- or possibly chocolate-spot! (it's a thing) -- bun.
You know what I love most about this page, with a little bit of hindsight. The Umbrella. There Lydia is, about to go out into the world and she is ready to wear her trans identity loudly and proudly. In the first few strips of this (consistently one of my favorite comics over the years) we saw her struggle so so much, worrying about whether she will pass or might be found out, and here she is courageously announcing it to the world, with the same visual theme of getting ready to go out.
Now if that isn't character growth combined with artistic parallels (and growth too!) I don't know what the heck is!
Also, I think it's a good way to honor your pets. And it's really cute!

Are we going to see Emily and Lydia in the next page
(Seen it over the last couple pages and i dont think anyone else noticed it)
Also damn, Rain lookin good in that outfit.

So thank you.

Seeing Rain and Emily about to be parents is what kept me reading this
