There's a lot here I could draw your attention to here, but I'd rather let y'all play "find all the things" for now. XD

The big thing I will address is that it has indeed been six years since the previous chapter, which ironically still leaves the story in the past (it'd be 2019 now, which feels like eons ago). So get ready for everyone to look a little different but not necessarily that different. ^_^

(Also, if anyone doesn't know, AMA stands for "Ask me anything", which means exactly what it sounds like it means.)

Rain, all characters and all other aspects of the story are copyright material belonging to me.

Wow! Is that a tattoo or just makeup for the show? I'm now dying to find out how Kaminari went during the timeskip!
Alaris 5th Jan 2022, 10:22 AM edit delete reply
Wow, that is certainly something.

I wasn't expecting a 6 year time skip, but I approve. I love getting to see where Rain ended up.

I'm looking forward to seeing where the rest of the crew is as well.

OMG is that an engagement/wedding ring!?!!?! Congrats to her and Emily!
I also love her hair and tattoo(?) and Puddle has a friend now! What is their name?
ValeryGraciela 5th Jan 2022, 10:43 AM edit delete reply
The first thing I'll point there is that, after all, Rain is not as shy as she was before. and she's not closeted at all. Which makes me happy for no apparent reason.

Second, the ring. I won't say anything, because I could be really wrong with that, but... well, I hope y'all get me c:

Third, the second bunny. I guess the little back bunny is Puddle. I hope he is. But guess he gained a little roomate.

And for now, I'll finnish with the hair. I guess she kept it short, but heck, looks so good on her.

And yep. That's it. If you excuse me, Imma cry c:

Yaaaay! I'm glad there was a timeskip and TBH "internet personality" seems like the perfect fit for her.

Is it intentional the third bubble (her saying it's been six years) isn't italicized?
Jocelyn 5th Jan 2022, 11:15 AM edit delete reply
@Long-Time Lurker

Nope! Just an oversight. Fixed now. Thanks for catching it. ^_^
Tesset 5th Jan 2022, 11:02 AM edit delete reply
One thing I was wondering about with the timeskip was whether Rain would still speak in italics, or if she would have been implied to smooth out her voice over time to look more like Jessica's. I recognize that might have been weird from an audience standpoint, though, since it would imply to us that she's using her natural voice unless someone in comic pointed out otherwise.

There is one speech bubble not in italics here, I wonder if that means she's switching back and forth between voices? That'd be cool, speaking as a trans girl who does that myself.
Tokuben 5th Jan 2022, 11:03 AM edit delete reply
I didn't notice the ring before. That means she's officially Lydia's mom.
glmdgrielson 5th Jan 2022, 11:11 AM edit delete reply
Well, i think I can safely say that is not at ALL where I was expecting this to go.
TK-Dragon 5th Jan 2022, 11:13 AM edit delete reply
I figured it'd be a time skip. Didn't expect Rain to be like a youtuber or something, thought it'd be like a meta thing where she'd been making the Rain comics the entire time. But this way I think fits better and it's relatable. Also I wonder if Emily got a bunny too and that's why we see another rabbit with Puddle. Also blue hair now, nice. It is pretty surreal to see Rain all grown up now, I can only imagine what everyone else looks like and what happened to them. This chapter is basically the confirmation on what fan theories were right or wrong and I can't wait for it. Like with Drew I think there were a few, I personally had three that I saw as possibly likely. 1. Drew and Ky got back together and everything was fine. 2. Randy, Drew, and Ky became a poly relationship. 3. Drew never got back together with Ky, but they remained close friends and maybe Drew ended up with another person who was genderfluid or non-binary maybe, like since he became more tolerant and understanding and explored his own sexuality.

I know there's a lot to unpack on this page, not least of which is the richly deserved success Lirel is enjoying but honestly I'm overly focused on the new bunny. I don't know if it has a name yet - I suggest Splash if not. :)

Wow I knew there was going to be a time skip but it feels weird to see her all grown up ! I wonde rif it sa tattoo or make up jidfjdfsj and I didn t think she was going to keep her hair short, but it s cool she did and her hair were this length at an important time of the story (were she accept herself completely because she knew her late father was ok with her being trans, and wasn t afraid anymore of her other father)
Oz 5th Jan 2022, 11:50 AM edit delete reply
But also I really thought she would grow it long again to use the ribbon like in the old art of her you made !
Kinkajou 5th Jan 2022, 11:53 AM edit delete reply
I LOVE THIS. Is her hair blue and purple? Or am I just looking at it wrong? Also OH MY I SEE THAT RING ooh is she engaged? Or maybe already married? I realized that this is only six years later, right before the pandemic, was that an intentional move to not add more tension and panic to the story and maybe leave out drama for a happy ending? Will we be seeing any of Rain’s friends?

Lol I wrote like a paragraph with my questions
Jocelyn 5th Jan 2022, 12:03 PM edit delete reply

Green hair. ^_^

And yes, years ago I was originally planning for the final chapter to be present day - whenever it would be. But then 2020 happened, and I didn't want to involve that sentiment (or its aftermath) in the story. So I made the deliberate choice to skip only as far as 2019.
Kinkajou 5th Jan 2022, 5:28 PM edit delete reply
Ohh that makes sense. And um yes, I realized that what I thought was Rain’s purple hair was actually her ribbon. My bad. I’m so excited to see how the rest of the chapter turns out! (And thanks for replying to me, it means a lot)

"Chiaki Koizumi"
Is this a Danganronpa reference?
Jocelyn 5th Jan 2022, 12:15 PM edit delete reply

It's actually an author of Black Wings Kaminari reference.

No one will ever believe this, but I've been using the name Chiaki Koizumi as an character/alias since like 2006, years before Danganronpa was even a thought. So even though there is both a character named Chiaki and another with the last name Koizumi, my character having that name is pure coincidence, and actually predates them. ^_^

To be fair, there's a lot of the story that's not from her perspective, that she herself might not know about. So although Rain has narrated the story, it's safe to say she didn't actually explicitly go over every plot point that's transpired.

Framing the entire story as being a retelling through an online AMA is interesting, but I feel like it might have weird effects on how the story structurally works.

Rain promised not to tell anybody Ana's secret. And the last we hear about Gavin (in Chapter 42), Rain says that she doesn't even know if Ana told Gavin about herself. But now I guess she went and told the whole internet?

I hope that Gavin doesn't watch Rain's videos I guess.

Side note: If it wasn't so antiquated, I feel like having Rain tell her story as a "Draw My Life" would have been a really nice thematically. But since that hasn't really been a thing for years (even in 2019), an AMA (or I guess more generically a Q&A) works just fine.
Jocelyn 5th Jan 2022, 3:43 PM edit delete reply

As I said to someone else, there's a lot of the story that's not from her perspective, that she herself might not know about. So although Rain has narrated the story, it's safe to say she didn't actually explicitly say everything that's transpired.
abitenum 5th Jan 2022, 10:00 PM edit delete reply
Yeah, that's a good point about the story not being all from her perspective. I don't remember anything happening in the story that Rain wouldn't have known at least vaguely about, but I'm sure I'm just overlooking something obvious. I'm probably just thinking of this too literally of a framing device.
Pseudonym 6th Jan 2022, 5:17 AM edit delete reply
All scenes between Brother Arthur and Father Quenton. Ky dragging Gavin into a closet and pulling up her shirt. (By the by, is it appropriate to refer to Past Ky using the pronouns Ky used at the time, or ís it better to refer to Ky with "they" at all times?) Gaving making an off-color wisecrack about that and getting deservedly hurt. Gavin having sexual fantasies about Rain. Gavin having a thing for Ruby. Gavin consulting his dad about just what is up with the previous two. Gavin all but undressing Ky in his mind as soon as he saw her in a dress. Sloppy makeouts between Jessica and Heather. Heather having CAIS, and how that's figured into her life. The day Ky got their first period. Debbie, Holly, and Holly's boyfriend studying. Chase accidentally calling Kellen and Aiken on Emily's phone. Gavin's mom trying to get him laid. With Rain. Rudy accidentally outing Ryan to Gavin because Rudy just *had* to be clever. Ana's dad reminiscing to himself. Rudy's reaction after coming home from breaking up with Rain. Aunt Fara being a horrible horrible person to her colleagues. Chase running into Aiken at the mall. Exchanges between Vincent and Kellen in his professional capacity.

My greatest talent is holding vast amounts of useless information in my head. I used to work as a medical transcriptionist and it actually came really handy for that. (Also Gavin's blazer)
abitenum 7th Jan 2022, 3:43 AM edit delete reply
@Pseudonym That's... a lot of good examples.

I want to try and lean on my use of the word "vaguely" to try to counter some of them, but a lot of it would rely on a lot of extrapolation. For example, Aiken told Fara about Kellen talking to Chase on Emily's phone, and Fara was talking about Chase to both Emily and Rain around that time, so it's not too out there that Fara would have told Rain that it specifically happened somewhere off-page (or on-page if I'm forgetting something). She wouldn't know the details of the phone call due to it being such indirect information, though.

I think the clearest counter-example you brought up was the conversation that Gavin and Ky had at the mall over the Christmas break. Between the utility closet incident and Gavin's confession, it's safe to assume that Rain wouldn't know about that information. (Though she was present for the off-color wisecrack Gavin made). I think that alone is enough to counter the "literal framing device" reading I was trying to make.
Pseudonym 5th Jan 2022, 4:01 PM edit delete reply
Well now. There's a thing. Rain started the comic as a nervous, shy recluse. Is this confident, exuberant young woman who she would've been all along, if she'd been born with the body she's had to pursue?

Sofia 5th Jan 2022, 4:43 PM edit delete reply
Wow. You really didn't think this through, did you? Ok, let's break this down: First of all, no trans person would have a following big enough to make it as an "internet personality". That simply would not happen. It's unrealistic wishful thinking on your part. Secondly, "internet personality" is not a real career because the internet is so fickle it can end at any time without warning which means that either A) she's leeching off of Emily or B) they're both leeching off of Farrah. That's not a good look. Third, the implication is that she's been doing this for years which means she's probably never had a real job and she's ALWAYS been a leech. Again, not a good look. If you meant to imply that she's been a stay at home mom, that STILL doesn't add up because the amount of content she'd have to produce to actually make decent money on YouTube means there wouldn't be time for her to do both. Either you're implying she somehow gained a huge following with minimal content, which would not happen, or there's an unspoken implication that she's not that great a mom. On top of all that, if the previous chapters have all been Rain telling the story, you have to ask what she left out and what really happened because no one is that honest. People will always tell some skewed version of history that makes themselves look better. In your desperation to give the story a happy ending, you've made the entire thing worse in retrospect.
Jocelyn 5th Jan 2022, 7:26 PM edit delete reply

"no trans person would have a following big enough to make it as an "internet personality". That simply would not happen. It's unrealistic wishful thinking on your part."
You know, technically, I'm an internet personality, right? And one of the lesser ones, I might add. There are many super talented trans people doing a lot of comics, videos, analyses, blogs, vlogs, podcasts, etc. and are very popular. If you think trans people "simply can't" because they're trans, your comment is transphobic. Please don't spread toxic misinformation like this.

"Secondly, "internet personality" is not a real career because the internet is so fickle it can end at any time without warning"
It is a career. Lots of people do it (again, myself included). Also, literally any job can end at any time without warning. Layoffs and unfair terminations are not rare at all, especially nowadays. I know my own job is at the mercy of people continuing to read my stories, but I'll do it for as long as they do. If people keep reading, I'll keep writing! It's not the most financially successful career path, I know, but it makes me happy, and it does a lot to make others happy. I don't care if I'm not rich. I may never live in a big house or have the chance to travel to other countries or anything like that, but what I do for a living is very fulfilling; it makes me happy and it apparently helps others. That's all I've ever wanted.

"Third, the implication is that she's been doing this for years which means she's probably never had a real job and she's ALWAYS been a leech. ... Either you're implying she somehow gained a huge following with minimal content, which would not happen, or there's an unspoken implication that she's not that great a mom."
You're assuming an awful lot from a four panel page with one character on it, that doesn't cover any of what you mentioned. ^^;

"On top of all that, if the previous chapters have all been Rain telling the story, you have to ask what she left out and what really happened because no one is that honest. People will always tell some skewed version of history that makes themselves look better."
I can't speak for everybody, but I have poured my heart and soul into this comic from day one. Sharing my own weaknesses and fears and triggers into the story, and often elaborating the real life experiences that inspired them via my blurbs. I've further shared about my own transition from therapy to HRT to surgery and many of the hiccups along the way. I've been very open about my struggles with my voice and passability, or about my time with cancer, low self-esteem, depression, and loss. My life has not been glamorous, but I share what I can. It's not about "looking good", it's about offering solidarity to those who may need to hear they're not the only one.

I haven't necessarily gone into every single minute detail, but that's not lying. That's just omitting filler, repetition, or stuff that hasn't needed to come up because it's not pertinent yet (I'll probably open up more about those in later stories). But generally speaking, if someone asks me anything about myself, I'll probably tell them (unless it somehow outs or hurts someone else). Outside of future developments in my writing, I don't think I have a lot of secrets left.

"In your desperation to give the story a happy ending, you've made the entire thing worse in retrospect."
I'm sorry you don't like this direction for the story. Your words are very mean-spirited and just straight up incorrect, but you are entitled to your opinions. If I've let you down somehow, all I can say is I'm sorry. I'm telling my story the way I think is right. Your comments are cruel and I'm hurt you think so little of me, but it doesn't change how I'm going to tell my story. If you don't like it, you don't have to keep reading. No one will force you.

Um, who is to say that's been her only career over the past 6 years? I doubt it has been, since it takes a while to build up a large following. She probably started as a small reaction channel that she made for fun. We also don't know what Emily's been doing. And also, do you consider being a stay-at-home parent "leeching?" Because Rain is presumably either engaged or married at this point, because of her ring, and she's definitely been taking care of the kid. This is just...such a rude and judgemental comment and a huge amount of negative assumptions based around Rain being an internet personality.

I don't get how that's unrealistic? There's a lot of trans content creators online these days. No idea where you got "being a leach" from. I'd imagine Rain would've at least had like a retail or fast food job at some point. Patreon and YouTube membership and Twitch subs also exists to help creators make careers on Youtube. Like there are people with only like 100k subs/followers that can do youtube full time thanks to supporter donations and sponsorships.

And also, it's a comic, so it doesn't really need to wholly be realistic. If Rain ends up as an internet personality, I don't see why she can't be?
Anon 5th Jan 2022, 8:56 PM edit delete reply
Hannah Reloaded, Arden Hart, Katy Montgomerie. All three work primarily online. All three are successful enough to live on their own. Your argument about working online not being a real career due to the fickle nature of the internet can be used for the vast majority of jobs; just about anything can fall out of favor because humans themselves are very fickle. Also, advances in technology come about that make certain jobs, or even entire industries, obsolete; find me a blacksmith that is high in demand, a job that was at one time not only a career, but a generational one, now its so niche that there's likely not even a hundred on the entire planet. What constitutes a real job? I'm willing to bet your definition will make a great many people that you actually respect will be included by that definition, and you don't question them. As for the stay at home mom thing, you do know that Twitch is a thing? And that Youtube has streaming? Also, its not like she's single, Stay At Home Spouses don't spend every waking moment taking care of the kid, the other spouse does come home, you know. The streaming could be done during that time. And while everyone will tell a skewed version of their own history, not everyone is self centered enough to completely lionize themselves, its entirely possible for a person to admit to things they aren't proud of.
girly 5th Jan 2022, 11:52 PM edit delete reply
thats really really rude. im autistic and have a mental disability and CANT get a job so you saying people who dont have jobs are leeches is hurtful and wrong. also its hard for trans peoole to get jobs to but there are a lot of trans internet personalitys and also rain used to not be out as trans to sort of like nikkietutorials so the story is like her coming out videos? also lots of parents make lifestyle vlogs to so like it is a thing on youtube. but there are LOTS of trans youtubers so dont be rude like that. im scared that im going to sound rude to since im not a fan of this either. i like the idea of the time skip but this is hard for me. its really hard for me to say since i love every chapter of rain so far been reading since 2018 before i came out as trans. so like her story means a lot to me and helped me learn about my own transition since i was like her age so i ralated a lot to her. i think this is just hard for me because i dont like change which is funny because im a trans girl. i just feel like with rain changing her name and her hair and her style and her house and her room its just going to be hard for me to get used to i feel like the rain i know and love is gone and i really dont like how now shes every trans youtuber stereotype not to be rude since i like a lot of trans youtubers to its just she dosent feel like rain to me any more. but this is just the first page so once i see lydia and emily and stuff i think i will feel better. but in the end this is jocelyns story that shes giving all of us for free on the internet so thats pretty rude to say. i think i just really dont want it to end but im sure it can be a good ending. <3

@Sophia, Are you also a Flat Earther?
It seems from your comment here that you have absolutely no concept of how reality works.
Over my lifetime, some of the trades I trained in have all but ceased to exist but that has not stopped me adapting skills to other areas.
The internet was only a dream built by sci fi authors not that long ago and look at it now.
There a thousands, if not tens of thousands of "Internet Personalities" out there, some doing very well, some barely scraping by.
There is no reason to assume any particular race/gender/nationality would be better or worse at it, except, perhaps, for some very obvious exceptions. I doubt a true technophobe would be likely to pursue this as a career. The same goes for members of certain religious groups.
I certainly never expected to see such a bigoted and rude comment here.
Zzyzx 6th Jan 2022, 3:35 AM edit delete reply
I think you need to examine why you are making the first point. If you think no trans person would have a following big enough to "make it," then that says a lot more about you than it does about this comic.
Absentia 6th Jan 2022, 4:22 AM edit delete reply
jeesh, last chapter and still getting people like this here? not much to say except that you REALLY chose the wrong comment to make these comments on OP. (unless you were specifically trolling, in which case oyu put WAY to much effort into it.)
WindandRain 6th Jan 2022, 5:21 AM edit delete reply
This is pretty difficult to read because of all the logical fallacies present, but let me get this straight- you think that Rain couldn't be a trans internet personality, not only in the real world (which is already false), but not in any possible universe this comic might be set in. I don't know if this is supposed to be a sarcastic commentary on how bad transphobia is in society, or some internalized transphobia of your own, but either way it's just plain wrong. You also think that a career as a internet personality is not a sustainable lifestyle? There are 1000s of YouTube channels and twitch streamers that would beg to differ. Even if she's not hugely popular, maybe she, I don't know, has another job? You also say that if she's devoting all this time to YouTube she must be a bad mom. There are literally millions of families with parents working multiple jobs that are still excellent parents- it's not unusual in lower class families, so for two 20-somethings to be working 3 jobs between 2 parents to live in their small bungalow home. You are certainly entitled to your opinion about how you would rather have seen the comic end, but your criticisms here are unfounded, unhelpful, and a bit transphobic, which has no place in these comics. I like to hope that you only meant to express your love of how you interpret Rain, and that you find more meaning with seeing it a different way, but please realize that the message your comment was displaying was transphobic and very inconsiderate of the interpretation of not only the author, but all the other readers of the comic. I hope you can appreciate why so many of us disagreed with what you said, and take it to heart and not as a personal attack.

I'm not a big fan of the dogpiling that is common in internet communities. But there are times when it is very much justified. Guess which category your comment falls into, Sofia.

I will admit I do have some of my own issues with Rain being an internet influencer. But, at the same time I'll admit that's a bad taste lingering from dealing with the bad apples and that I would not be surprised if the vast majority are like Jocelyn: Honest, hard-working people who are making it based on effort and talent. And, having followed this comic from near the beginning, I can tell you right now that Rain, as a character, would very much be one who would make it based on talent and skill. And, Jocelyn made it a point to foreshadow this outcome.

Rain is, in setting, popular and well-known in her area. From being the new girl who speaks a little oddly to winning homecoming queen, there has been a steady aspect to the story: People are paying attention to what Rain is doing, and they like her. If you go back over the comic pages and pay attention to what the out of focus characters say when they are in focus, it becomes pretty clear Rain herself is a constant focus of gossip. She has charisma, which is the number one requirement for making it as an internet personality.

As Jocelyn pointed out, the very person creating this comic is an internet personality. And, well, let's be honest: Rain the character has likely inheritted some qualities from the creator. It's possible that didn't happen, but in my experience it's incredibly rare; the main character almost always inherits something from their creator because the main character is the focus of the comic. Now, in addition to the charisma, what other qualities did I cite Jocelyn as having? "Honest." "Hard-working." "Talent."

Rain has shown she is honest throughout the comic; as a character, it's just not within her to be dishonest, even if she's wrong. Notice that "honest" and "always correct" are two very different character traits (and the second is usually the trait of someone who is quite a bit of an evil jerk, which Rain couldn't be if she tried). And as Rain has become more relaxed she has become more open about herself.

As for hard-working... Rain, if I remember correctly, is about average in grades. That doesn't mean she isn't hard-working; some people are just not academically gifted. But take a look at how hard she tries to pass, even at the beginning. Take a look at how much work Rain puts into her outer image to make it match her inner image. Take a good look at how she interacts with people and the effort she puts into to extend a hand of friendship. She may not be gifted academically, but she has the capacity to navigate social structures. And dealing with people when you're different from what is considered the norm is a lot of hard work, especially when you are trying to hide that difference.

And, finally, talent. Rain has a subconcious capacity to read people. She can look at someone, pick up cues about them, and put together in her mind a picture of who they are that, even if she's not conscious of it, reflects the truth of who that person is even if that person is not aware of it themselves. Rain willing to date Ru(d/b)y? Notice how Ru(d/b)y later hooks up with Ryan; Rain picked up that Ru(d/b)y would be willing to connect with someone trans. Rain's constant efforts with Emily come from Rain picking up how much of Emily's public persona wasn't really who Emily is. And on it goes with various characters; Rain may not be consciously aware of it, but she has what is probably THE most important talent for dealing with people. And to see this written so well in the comic is quite rare.

So, yeah, Rain could easily make it as an internet personality.

I suspect you're projecting personal problems you are having with the "leaching" comment. Most people I've met who use that accusation and are not too conservative to read a comic like this are having issues with someone in their life they are projecting onto others. That is something for you to work out with the person causing those issues. But as for Rain...

If she's not bringing income into the house, so what? There are other ways to contribute to a household. There's a child to take care of, household tasks that need doing to keep the family functioning, cooking, cleaning, actions to support those who are working... Rain has always wanted to be a mother. Rain may even have a more traditional idea of what motherhood entails; we don't know because this is literally the first page of this chapter. And if so and if Emily is okay with it, then Rain is not remotely a leech; she's a stay-at-home mom. Good for her if that's what she chose; it's her life and her choice and not the business of any of us to cast aspirations at her just because it may be different than our values.

Also, have you ever looked at some of the more popular Youtubers? They don't necessarily produce content daily. Some only produce content weekly. One of the most popular channels only produces content monthly. She doesn't have to be on Youtube 8 hours a day, every day, to gain popularity. In fact, I can't name a single Youtuber who's gotten popular by doing that. So she could very well be popular but have the updates only show up every so often. And even if she were only doing updates monthly, years would cause the content to build up; it just doesn't mysteriously vanish.

Finally, really... Rain? Lie about herself? Rain?!? I don't think I even need to say more.

1. Many trans people do actually have quite large following and are able to make that a career. Also, "unrealistic wish fulfillment", when did anyone say that this comic is a brutally realistic portrayal of anything? If you're mad that a fictional story doesn't have a strictly realistic ending in order to make a happy ending, I am forced to wonder what media you actually consume, because that's just fictional media in general.

2. It can be a real career, and it is for many people. Simply stating that it's hard to pull off doesn't make that fact go away. Just because a job may or may not be in fickle demand doesn't actually determine if it's a "real job"

3. Just yikes with the jumping to wild conclusions. And just plain strange because it's very firmly established that Rain invested a lot of money into making sure she and her family would have financial stability. Buying the house and a tremendous amount of stuff for Lydia. It's just completely divorced from what has been established to just invent the idea that they're in a super precarious situation because of Rain taking on a non-traditional career.

4. You can just say you've never been a parent or around someone raising a young child. Even with a job that demands a lot of time, you still in fact can do other things, including helping raise a child with two other people.

5. It's pretty obvious she's doing streaming at least as part of her content, which enables you to make a lot more money than just doing youtube alone, and helps take a lot of background work off of a creator's plate as now not all content requires much if any editing which is what takes up the majority of time when making videos.

6. If you weren't just going on a weird rant you would have seen that the point was not that everything said in the story is what Rain said, just that Rain recounted the general overview.

7. In your desperation to be "realistic" all you've done is show off how little you understand about everything you just talked about, and are just being a jerk to someone who's actually put in the effort to create a comic for literally over a decade. Like maybe try to put your money where your mouth is before mouthing off about things you clearly don't understand while jumping to the moon to reach for ridiculous interpretations that clearly are all in your head and not at all what was represented at any point in the comic.
Everything you said is just plain shit stop it trans people CAN be Internet personalities and stop being a transaphobe BYE ✌🏿
LariUmbreon 7th Jan 2022, 3:56 AM edit delete reply
No need to be so toxic, damn. It's not like the author is a trans internet personality, and Rain is voiced by a trans internet personality. There's no indication she's super big, I know I'm not. We're not unicorns for crying out loud. There are plenty of trans people who make a living entertaining people online, it's hard, it's fickle. But that doesn't make it rare, or impossible.

Look, have your personal beliefs about how people who work on the internet are "leeches" or not. But it's only the first page, for all we know she has a full-time job doing something else. I've managed that and all the online stuff that I do. Is it easy? No. Does it get hard sometimes that I can't bring in as much money as my partners? Absolutely. But it's not always about the money, and just because you can't bring in a full living's worth doesn't mean you're a leech.

Furthermore: She's the reason they have the house. Heaven forbid she enjoy being able to take it easy, and not have to worry about a 40hr+ job, given the fact it's likely a 4 income household. On top of what other money is being given to take care of the child from Assface's child support.

Chill the heck out.

I'm amazed by how far she's come to be an internet personality! From being utterly terrified at the thought of anyone figuring out she's trans to being openly trans to pretty much the entire world... that's such incredible growth from her and shows a massive amount of resilience and confidence. (Which is not of course to say that it's what everyone should strive for at all, I'd imagine being an openly trans online presence is extremely challenging and not for most people, but just that it's such a big change from who she was at the beginning of the story.)

Just discovered this comic on reddit today, I'm not caught up yet but thought commenting here would be more visible for you. I got to Comic 571 in a single night and only stopped since its almost midnight. I'm still fairly new to all of this, closeted transfemme and questioning sexuality, and I'm only out to a few immediate family, I want to tell more people but its been tough since most of my friends I made through church. I think I really needed something like this and I think this has given me the push I needed to finally come out to my best friend. I got home from work today a bit bummed out that I was having trouble saying it to him but now I'm crying tears of joy at finding a story that grabbed me for 6 hours that I could relate to so much.

I wonder what Lydia's going to look like grown up, will they even still be Lydia?.
It was alluded to that Emily would accept "this one" if they were to feel their gender didn't correlate to their birth sex, so I wonder if that did happen, does Lydia(?) know liriel/rain is trans? I would assume so from the flags being up
(Side note, my birthday is the same as Lydia(?)'s lol)

Hi @JocelynSamara! Not sure if you read all the comments and whatnot as I'm guessing that's a lot of work but I just wanted to say a few things:
1. Hello! I've read this comic since I was in high school, long time reader but never commented but now I'M 24 the same age as Rain in this episode and I have ALL THE FEELS 😭❤️
2. Thank you. For everything. I hope even though it's hard you are able to ignore the haters because you have inspired so many people, and will continue to do so over time. When I started reading in high school I had several LGBTQIA+ friends. I thought I was the straight one. Little did I know I fit into the "quirky Ace" category instead. Well, I'm still figuring all that out actually and I often find myself questioning everything and wondering if maybe I'm just overthinking it and not really ace BUT then I think about Rain and how far she came and I feel inspired. I'm still not ready to leave my closet yet, but I have hope that maybe one day I can.
3. Sorry for the long comment, I've been leaving mental comments on your pages for years but never had the bravery to post. I just really want you to know I find all of your dedication, your hard work, all of it, to be amazing.
4. I LOVE THE TIME SKIP RAIN! Puddle has a friend! And Liriel/Rain has a ring! And all the things that people have already noticed. Wooo!!!
5. I'm not sure I'm ready for the end 😅
6. Ugh I keep adding things sorry this is getting long so I will try and stop now. In conclusion: you're awesome and thank you.

Just seeing this page, and Rain so happy getting to be herself.... I'm broken. I'm sobbing. I don't have words to describe just how bittersweet this feels to me at the start of my trans journey.... Rain has been my biggest source of comfort and affirmation, and to see its conclusion, and Rain going on with her life gives me hope, and also reminds me of what I'm afraid I'll never get. I can't believe it's almost over. Thank you for helping me, Jocelyn. I'm really going to miss this comic after it ends.

Predictions! :D

1. Ky and Drew aren't together but have remained good friends.

2. Ryan is free of his family home (possibly living in the Bryer household) and has started medical transition.

3. Maria and Rudy's mom has slowly become more supportive. Their dad has not and that resulted in a divorce.

4. Maria and Channel are still together. As are Ana and Gavin.

5. Rudy and Ryan have dated, regardless of if they're still together romantically.

6. Fara and Vincent have also gotten together officially and are engaged.

7. At least one character has changed pronouns since we last saw them.

8. Rudy has a mustache.

ok its the final chapter, not a lot more opportunity's to try and leave a comment

I just got to say I absolutely adore rains post time skip design, the hair style, the teal/cyan coloring, the face tattoo (it could be make up but i think rains got's the gut to try it), and puddles has a friend their, this is all just very amazing to see

its very sad to see the end of a series I have been reading since high school (a lot of years ago) but ya i think I'm more exited for the end and to see how this story comes to a close and what's going on with all the other character, because the first page hear is just very, just really happy to read :)

Wait, is the umbrella a trans allegory for stealthing? Like im chapter 1, Rain attempted to go stealth but due to clumsiness (ch 1, comic 18) she accidentally outed herself. A little amount of rain will be revealed to you even if you use an umbrella. But, rain is also the cause of good in world as it is a critical step in the water cycle. I mean, look at the friendships formed because they were in some way connected to Rain. Now, as the umbrella is folded closed, rain is able to just saturate you, as Rain comes out publically.

Just a theory

And now I'm jealous of all the accessorizing women get to do. Sure, there's stuff for guys too, but the selection is on a whole different level for women, you know?

Maybe I'm going about this all wrong by thinking about the small things, like Rain's hair clip and choker, and I should get a top hat and monocle and see if that scratches the itch.

So happy for you! This is still my first time read (didn't binge it in some days but over the time of some weeks) and as I've commented before: the comment section is telling a lot of little stories over the years from different people. Six years is also a great time skip because it means that any of their classmates who went to college would've completed their degree (probably), except for Chanel. And, sure, to be super "realistic" a friend group probably would've added people and split off and changed a bunch, but I just want them to all be happy and friends still. :)
