I know some folks might have an easy time blaming Fara for not doing more, but don't forget that everyone has their own life with their own drama going on. Try to be patient with those who aren't there in your time of need, because they might just be having their own time of need. You don't necessarily know everything someone else is dealing with, just as much as they don't necessarily know all that you're dealing with. Rain is the protagonist of her story, but Fara's the protagonist of hers too. As are Liriel and Vincent and everyone else.
There's no denying that this is all an unfortunate set of circumstances that in a perfect world, could've all been avoided if things played out differently for other people. If young Vincent hadn't run away when he did, Fara wouldn't have been so deeply depressed at that time, and she'd be more present to hear what Liriel had to say about Rain. And maybe that moment could've changed everything for Liriel and Rain. Maybe even for Fara and Vincent. Not even to mention how different everything could've been if literally anyone besides Rain's dad had walked in on her that time when she was little.
Last week, I had three our of four of my back molars pulled. Once again, much thanks to all of you who've donated to or shared my GoFundMe to help make this possible. Unfortunately, this is still not the end. It's a big step, but my mouth still needs a lot of work. So don't forget, you can still help right here at this link. https://gofund.me/bc702c0d
When someone makes a will, they can designate that portions of that will should be for the ears of the person who gets the thing and the executor only.
There isn't an option to keep the executor out, since the executor needs to know who to give what to, but one can choose ones executor. So I'd guess that isn't Rain's father.
I somehow completely missed what this chapter was about. Was wondering where they were going, but figured it was the graduation ceremony or something. Was confused by Rain's dream too.
Graduation was a couple chapters ago. Last chapter was the summer pool party, this chapter is the baby, and especially today is Rain's 18th birthday, legal name change, and the day she finds out what Liriel left her in her will.
If I recall correctly, Duckman isn't a realistic slice of life comic. That said, I do admit that I do not completely understand how the world works, so it's possible I could be wrong.
It's less foreshadowing, and more a callback to a couple pages ago when Fara said more or less the same thing - referring to a painful situation, and how it ultimately turned out okay - to cheer Rain up. https://rain.thecomicseries.com/comics/1429
There is wisdom here. We all have to deal with our own baggage, and know that others do as well. Where we find humanity is in the times when we're able to help each other as Fara helped Rain by taking time for Liriel even though she had her own stuff going on. Maybe she didn't do as much as she might have, but she did what she could and planted the seeds of her later relationship with Rain.
The more we learn about Liriel in this chapter, the more it seems likely that she would have been accepting and supportive of Rain in her transition and the more we learn about Rain's father, the less like it seems that he would have done the same. I think that Liriel knew she wouldn't survive her illness and made her dieing wish for her husband to leave and never bother her children. I think it would explain why he left so suddenly and when his family seemed to need him most. Rain was too young to understand what was going on but I think her siblings were aware of the circumstances and possibly held a bit of a grudge against Rain for it. It's why they were so reluctant to support her initially and why Kelen could do something so cold as to cut Rain's hair in her sleep.
Sorry that might be a bit of a long shot but I felt like this chapter needed a bit of soap opera drama.
Personally, I think Marcus disappeared right after he learned that Liriel's illness was going to be fatal, because it is at least implied that he left while Liriel was alive. Given what we've seen of him, he doesn't strike me as the kind of guy who'd wanna be a single father, so he just left before that happened.
Cool idea, but
a) While I think Liriel would have been supportive and wanted the best for Rain, I doubt she thought that Marcus abandoning the whole family would have been "what's best". If she thought that his absence would have been better than him being around, and she really didn't think he could improve, then she would have taken Rain and left him (we know that the reason she stayed was at least in part because she kept thinking he would become the "good husband/father" that she thought he would be)
b) Marcus has been so abusive, I don't think it's in character for him to respect his wife's dying wishes and stay away from his children unless he was going to do that anyway
c) Kellen and Aiken DEFINITELY had no idea until they were told/figured it out. You can tell from their reactions.

Duckman did it so it’s not too inconceivable.

Vi pronounced like the letter V. At least, that's how I say it and how I mean for Fara to be saying it. :)
