In case you were wondering where Hokori and Aneko were. XD
Not gonna lie; I'm really proud of this page. Hokori kicking the door "down". Aneko swooping in to defend against Onajimi's strike, while Kaminari walks away not the least bit concerned. Not to mention all four of them (mostly) calmly dropping sass on an increasingly frustrated antagonist, I think this is one of the most badass things I've ever drawn. Some might find it campy - and that's totally fine if you do - but I eat this kinda thing up. ^_^
Sure, maybe it feels too easy, but it's just the first episode. Naturally, the villains will get tougher as the story goes. And being realistic, I don't think this week's pages would fill more than a few minutes of screen time if it were actually animated anyway. So of course, there's still most of the episode to go from here. Maybe our heroes get lost escaping the dungeon, only to get surrounded by a far greater number of guards. Maybe they get boxed in when Onajimi wheels out the Dragon Tank. Or maybe she even has some secret power of her own, that she didn't expect to have to resort to for a flightless "angel" and her three misfit companions. XD
Either way, I know full well I could've dragged this out to show the "whole episode", but I don't want to grind the main story to a halt (again). So, come Monday, we'll be checking back in with Rain and her friends immediately after the episode ends.
You're definitely getting a lot of the important points I wanted to show with this scene. But once again, when I get around to assembling the Rain book that has this chapter, maybe I'll expand this scene if people want (still probably won't be the full episode, but it could be a little more as I did cut a lot to condense this into three pages).
All that said, I hope you enjoyed this little detour. ^_^
My first round of dental work went well last week. I received a number of fillings and deep cleaning (and I swear they already look a lot better!), but there's still extractions and several route canals in my future. And unfortunately, this is a lot for me, financially. If you're able to help, follow the link, and know that I'm eternally grateful. https://gofund.me/bc702c0d
I'd like to add that the fundraiser began just last week, and has already raised over $3,000. And truly, from the bottom of my heart, thank you so much to all of you who've donated or even just shared it around. This is far beyond what I expected in so little time. Everything is starting to feel within reach for the first time. Thank you so so much! Y'all are the best, and I love you all. Keep being awesome, friends.
I like how this page is a sort of a "what if?"for earlier when Kellen cut her hair. It looked similar to that scene but we had the happy ending with anime Maria.
Bad antagonist or good antagonist? What kind of antagonist? I don't mean if they're written well or not, I mean whether the antagonist is evil or twisted. Note that the chance of a good antagonist turning good are way higher than that of a bad antagonist's, though not 100%. Also, I haven't watched too many anime, but if I had to guess, this would be inspired by hxh, especially that scene where killua shows up at the opponents' room and tells them to forfeit the match
Gah, this awesome! So sad that for Rain to continue, this will have to finish... ah well, I guess I'll have to console myself by spending the weekend binge watching every similar piece of media I can find...
actually, it's also pretty strategic. she can use those holes to catch enemy blades with the right motion, and then either completely disarm them or, if her blade is strong enough, break their blade entirely. she's probably an extremely skilled swordsman with it and has numerous techniques in order to employ these exact tactics.
ooh, finally, some action! turned out really nice, campiness or not I think it's pretty kick-ass.
can't wait to... uh, go back to the main cast next week. that's fine too.
(I jest, of course, though I do appreciate the experimentation.)
Not what I was going for, but I guess I see it. Whoops. ^^;
Time to start from the beginning again!
