I love this page. Rain saying "behold" is so funny to me for some reason. And I also always hear the "monster truck rally announcer" voice in my head when I read "swimdress". XD
Anyway, swimdresses are a real thing. They're super awesome and effective, and I absolutely recommend them for pre-op or no-op gals who want to get in the water. It might still cling, but the added layer of coverage still always took a load off my mind. And even now, post-op, a swimdress would still be my prefered swimsuit of choice (I think they're more comfortable, and also just cute as heck).
Rain's particular swimsuit isn't based on any one specifically. But I was very meticulous about looking for designs that she'd appreciate. The look is fairly simple, but the overall black design and skirt helps hide what she doesn't want prominent, while the purple stripes and flaring of the skirt help highlight what she does. ^_^
Clearly a hidden talent of Emily's is to be able to fold clothes as she's catching them... :D
Or perhaps it's a subtle way of representing that everyone has just been staring at Rain for several minutes, giving Emily plenty of time to fold the clothes
New sandals already in my Amazon shopping basket, still looking for a black and purple swimdress in my size. Dangit, Jocelyn..... you're gonna end up costing me nearly a hundred bucks today, lol!
I am waiting to be fully vaccinated (next month!) to go swim suit shopping for something like what Rain has, and I'm really excited for it. Feel like this chapter is going to be both timely and just a little too early for me, lol, I'm gonna be jealous of that swim dress all month! :P
It looks like some of the swimdresses I've seen in the "Woman Within" catalog. I bought some several years ago and they've made me feel far more comfortable with going in swimming. The only problem is that since they're from a "fat lady store," they are designed for a woman with a lot more "up there" than I have.
I would suggest looking for a swim skirt instead of a swim dress. The idea is the same, but the tops and bottoms are sometimes sold separately instead of together, so you can get different sizes for the tops and bottoms.
I couldn't agree more. Those can also help those of us with longer torsos, where a swim dress might get pulled out of shape... Besides, basic black swim skirt will pair with almost any top as things change...
Woo! The Chapter 23-26 arc is a contender for my favorite in the series, so I'm really glad we are finally seeing this bit of foreshadowing finally come home.
My solution was some slightly black swim shorts:) still cute but casual enough not to draw any attention. Or at least that's my hope - only came out fall of quarantine
I was kind of hoping Rain would have chosen a two piece with a swim skirt because I really think she could rock the heck out of it but the swim dress is cute as heck too.
Aaaaaaa!!!! I absolutely adore that confident smile!!!!!!! She's come so far!! What a great moment!!! I'll have to look into swim dresses, I've been wondering about swimwear!! I don't like how swim shorts billow up heh
My first time at a pool party after beginning transitioning I simply used a bikini top and a pair of daisy dukes cutoff denim shorts, since I never planned to go in the water anyway as I cannot swim. It worked well. I've had breast augmentation since then so the bikini top would work even better for me now, but...... the year of pandemic and accompanying excessive weight gain has not been very kind to my waistline and right now wearing tight short shorts would not be a very flattering look, lol! I've been looking at black swimdresses online all day long that have the plunging neckline I desire along with built-in tummy control, since black is a good color for hiding a belly, but haven't been able to find one I like in my size that isn't super expensive. Meanwhile, I'm working on losing the excess weight, but at the rate my diet and exercise plan is working, it's gonna be probably at least the end of August/Labor Day weekend before I'd be comfortable showing my midriff around a pool again. *sigh*
...and, I finally found what looks like the perfect swimdress at a price that's affordable. Black with white polka dots, built-in tummy control with an A-line style skirt portion (non-pleated) that's long enough it can also pass as a summer evening cocktail dress, and it has a nice halter style top portion with deep V plunge neckline, and best of all is under $30 with good customer reviews on Amazon. It's styling looks extremely similar to the only other one I really liked..... that was $189, and obviously that would've been ridiculously out of my budget.
Is it just me or is there more of a curve to the top part of that swim-dress that might have been evident (say) a few months ago? Pretty sure she's not wearing anything under in!
-Ana understands that finding a swimsuit might be a bit of an issue for Rain. This feels like something cis people wouldn't immediately consider. So this seems like a nice bit a trans camaraderie that will fly over everyone else's heads. However, the cynic in me says that Ana is trying to make Rain envious about the situation, by pointing out that Rain isn't able to wear a "normal" swimsuit whereas Ana is. Since this is a mostly positive comic and Ana doesn't come across as an awful person, I favour the optimistic interpretation.
-Panel 4 is a rare opportunity to see separate fingers in this comic because of Jocelyn's style of drawing hands. Interesting.
-The swim dress itself! I had not heard of these so I had no idea how this was going to be resolved and I was worried it would be glossed over or handwaved. But what really shocked me about this panel were the sandals. Maybe it's having been in lockdown for over a year, but sandals seem really odd to me right now. It's been ages since I've gone outside for a fun or frivolous reason. :(
-Lastly, Maria, Gavin and Carver all saying "Damn girl" at once is hilariously cheesy and I love it.
For next week, I'm looking forward to seeing whether Emily is also wearing a special swimsuit underneath those clothes. I have no idea what sort of swimwear they would make for pregnancy but I'm sure it exists. I hope at least that Emily is able to join the others in the pool because (I think) the buoyancy will take the weight of the baby off her body.
Honestly I can't help but hear the "BEHOLD!" in the exact tone that Owain says it as a critical hot line in Fire Emblem Awakening, because that is the exact energy happening here.
Is that a Yakuza reference I see? Because I think that's a Yakuza reference; pulling the corner of your outer layer and being able to make everything you want come off in one swing.
I'm so entertained that we've got one panel with those who aren't sexually attracted to women just being like "Oh, you look so cute!" and then the second panel with those who are seemingly having *that* kind of reaction. (Being acespec myself, I never have *that* kind of reaction that easily, so it's always interesting to me in an anthropological sense to see others having it.)
Or perhaps it's a subtle way of representing that everyone has just been staring at Rain for several minutes, giving Emily plenty of time to fold the clothes
