Happy Trans Day of Visibility, everyone! Sorry today's page doesn't have any trans people on it. Whoops! ^^;

It is the first time in the comic I've gotten to officially bring up polyamory, though (that is, the practice of engaging in multiple romantic relationships, with the consent of all the people involved). I am not polyamorous myself, but I know a lot of people who are, and it's led to me wanting to include this for a long time. I've just struggled a bit with how and when and where to bring it up. There's been little hints here and there, but this is me finally getting that information out there.

It can be assumed by the third and fourth panels that Maria and Chanel already knew about this too. Maria lives with Blair and Isaac, and Chanel is surely visiting Maria a bunch this Summer. I feel it makes sense that they'd be aware of this by now. Gavin, on the other hand, not so much. XD

There'll be a bit more on this next time, but I hope I'm handling this okay so far. As per usual, I just wanna make sure I'm doing things right.

And here I am, present day. I binged the entire comic in a single week.
Jocelyn, thank you so much for creating this amazing piece of work! You gave me many insights but also made me feel many emotions while reading :)

Happy Trans Day of Visibility everyone! Great timing on my part I suppose, hahaha

wow, glad you're liking it!

I did strongly suspect being poly was part of the "among other things" mentioned before... Though I still get strong GQ/NB vibes from Carver...

I like the idea of "trans visibility," but I've never figured out what I can do for it other than just living my life. I'm more or less visible -- I'm pretty sure everyone who is aware of my existence is also aware that I'm trans. I don't think I pass all that well (63 years of testosterone poisoning), and I didn't move away or change my communities. So in that sense, I'm "visible" 365.2422 days a year.

I was on a (crowded) Zoom call last night where they were collecting ideas, but they all seemed to involve being (capital A) Activist (which is just not me, any more than being a dude-bro is) or else were too vague.

Not to mention that in some places (e.g., many states in the US), it's not really safe to be visibly trans. I'm privileged enough to be in a fairly trans-tolerant (not quite trans-FRIENDLY, but...) part of the USA, so I don't worry about that.

Hey, it's someone else who actually knows how many days are in an average year! OMG!

Personally, I feel like trans visibility is more for people who pass or people like me who aren't trans but are trans friendly. As you say, you do your part implicitly.

For people like me, it's about paying attention, and seeing instances where trans people are being forgotten and point out that they exist and are people. I'm too introverted for being an Activist with a capital A, but I'm good at complaining when my friends' rights are being threatened by people around me.

Of course, for trans celebrities who don't pass, there's a host of other crap, but I don't have the spoons to even think about what it would be like to be in that situation. I've encountered some of those sorts on line, and there's a definite dance they do, but...

I can't dance, unless it's one of those traditional sorts of dancers with partners who can lead, and I have a partner who's good at leading doing the real work. That statement holds true regardless of whether it's a metaphor for Activism or it's being literal.

Very happy to see polyam rep in the comic! I'm also a polyam trans girl so, yeah just saying whoo :). Happy TDoV everybody, y'all stay safe out there okay? <3

Should Gavin really be surprised at this point? Let's be honest here, this is like the least weird thing.
Some Ed 31st Mar 2021, 2:17 PM edit delete reply
Probably not. But it's easy to think you know people, only to find out they were more complicated all along, and despite it seeming that they trusted you, they still had secret depths.

Pro tip: everybody is more complicated all along, with secret depths we don't know.

My ex is polyamorous, too bad it actually caused some problems in our relationship as I'm monogamous. We're still really good friends though.

With the way Em explained the breakup way back, I bet Carver being polyam, him shown dancing with Isaac at prom (and the revelation that the two were already dating way back) probably contributed to part of the breakup.

This brings up the thought, is this the first time that Emily and Carver are going to see each other irl since they broke up? It's the first time in the comic, I think, otherwise it's just been via text.

Same question goes for Isaac, as this page reveals. This'll be an interesting reunion.

At long last, we finally have a character who is explicitly poly (and not just implied poly like Ky was before)!

This is probably going to be the last Trans Day of Visibility where I am not visible.

Trans day of visibility! Yes! Also, I appreciate the inclusion of polyamory and it's hilarious how confused Gavin is at every new lgbt/gsrm he learns. Love this.

Happy TDoV everyone! It's also the third anniversary of my completion of legal transition... that is, legal name and gender marker change.
Chrissy 31st Mar 2021, 1:43 PM edit delete reply
Oh, and of course, Gavin is continuing overthinking everything... As has been the case in this entire comic...
Szarrukin 31st Mar 2021, 6:03 PM edit delete reply
I think that, at this point, it's mostly a pretext for Carver to drop an infodump.
Anastacia Rubina 31st Mar 2021, 3:37 PM edit delete reply
Gavin, don't you worry your pretty little head about it..

Happy trans visibility! Also, love the poly rep!

Yay! I love seeing polyamory in comics! Being quoiromantic/quoisexual and strictly polyamorous is why I decided to include that right from the beginning of my own comic. I'm always happy to see more people who are accepting of polyamory!

Finally caught up with this comic yesterday after discovering it earlier that month. It has easily become one of my favorite webcomics.
Calcifina 2nd Apr 2021, 10:58 PM edit delete reply
Thank you so so much! I hardly ever see polyamorous relationships, especially polyamory shown positively and nonchalantly. I really can't say enough how much I appreciate the representation and kindness in your work!

Also, there totally are trans characters on this page! If you look at the bottom right corner it says "Rain by Jocelyn Samara":)
