For those of you trying to keep track, the last chapter primarily took place on May 28th. And as the header says, this one is starting a few days later. We're up to June now, which means the school year is quickly drawing to a close. But before anyone can graduate, they've got to get through finals. And before finals, these kids have got some studying to do. So whether they study efficiently or not, expect that fact to hang in the background for the next several weeks of pages.
(Also, to be clear about it, finals will begin the following week in the story; on June 13th. It'll be addressed canonically on a later page, but just in case anyone felt like they needed to know the dates now.)
Anyway, we open with Gavin and Ana. Gavin's just arrived at Ana's house, and it seems they're going to be study buddies this weekend. Of course, they're not in the same grade, and it sounds like they're both somewhat middling students. So I wonder how effective this'll actually be for either of them. XD
I totally forgot finals would be a thing! My high school had this thing where if you were a senior and were passing the class well enough, you didn't have to take the final exam. Also the last Monday in May is a holiday, and our "prom" was the Friday before, so between that and skipping finals week, prom was pretty much my last chance to bump into any classmates before the actual graduation ceremony. I still have some regrets relating to should have talked to some people sooner when I had the chance
I studied with friends on on occasion, notably for my chemistry final. I was terrible at the chemical equations, and we had a terrible textbook that did a poor job of explaining how to do them plus a teacher who was absent regularly for meetings. And we never had substitutes that knew the material.
That final exam actually still makes me kind of angry because the teacher claimed all year that our practice tests throughout the year would be what was on our final exam and should be kept for studying for it. Around 3/4 of the actual final exam was not on the practice tests. -__-
I'd be willing to bet that Gavin will be 100% golden when he finds out Ana's past.... if he doesn't already have some suspicions..... and that it might even make Ana even that much more special to him. I might even go out on a limb and predict a very awkwardly delivered marriage proposal coming from a head-over-heels-in-love Gavin to her.
You say 'when' he finds out, but, even though Ana has every reason to believe Gavin would be golden (I think so too,) she doesn't *want* people to know about it, even her friends. And with her recent medical procedures, it wouldn't necessarily come up in that way, either. I don't even know if 'out' would be the right word for disclosing her history as intersex
I know Jocelyn mentioned that this isn't the last chapter, but I have been thinking about what I'd personally love to see as an ending.
I would love to see a time jump to like present day and seeing how everyone is doing and how much they've grown
If I recall the story is currently at June 2010??? Or June 2013???
Either way a time jump of 7 to 10 years would be cool because Emily's child would be school aged
Plus everyone would be in their 20's
What a lovely way to start the week! This chapter I'm excited for after that sweet end to the last chapter. This story coming to a close is ending nicely.
Here in Texas, we finished up school about the last week in May or first week of June (that was back in the 1970s, I graduated high school in May 1980). But we had no such thing as a week long "mid-winter break" in February around "President's Day".... which also didn't yet exist as a recognized holiday here.... Lincoln's and Washington's birthdays were still recognized as separate days, but we didn't get those days off school either. It wasn't until the mid-late 1980s that a "President's Day" became recognized in Texas. So in the northeastern USA, particularly New York state, where Rain is hypothetically geographically located, because there is an additional week off school in February, it makes sense that the school year ends in early-mid June.... at least a week or two later than in other states.... also a Catholic school is likely to have a few more single days off during the school year than what a public school would have, so to keep the grand total days of student attendance about the same, in order to maintain accreditation with the state's department of education, it doesn't seem that unusual that Rain's school year would end later than public schools in other states.
Well, at the very least they can help each other focus... If they don't end up distracting each other. But if they both stay true to the goals they've just stated, being together in a space and time dedicated to studying should help.
Sorry I'll leave

In all seriousness, this is gonna be great!
Nope! The only one who currently knows about Ana's past is Rain.

That's just my personal idea of an ending
I love how adorable this pair is!
