Reading it back all this time later, this chapter came out a little more timely than I intended, I think. I'm not going through anything like Emily is, but I can relate to needing lots of distractions these days, and my mind wandering the second I stop.
A lot of us are struggling these days. Don't forget to look out for each other. Sometimes, a quick "hey, doing okay?" can make someone's whole day. :)
That's a significant development from where we first saw Emily and Rain. They really have changed quite a lot in the past months - even though they always were the same people. This story is so different from its origins, as most of the best stories are.
One thing I like about this story is that the "bad" family members are bad in very different ways. When Maria turned 18, Norman wanted to pretend he was still her legal guardian and still had the right to control her life. Emily's mom takes the opposite approach. The one thing they have in common is that they both hurt their kids.
OMG the last two frames with Rain & Emily just made me melt in awe! In all seriousness though, I wish Emily reign triumphant over the tyranny and oppression that is her mother, and to form a perfect union with Rain :3
Don't think I've actually commented before? Anyway, I just want to express how much I love this comic. The struggles of the characters feel very real, and the way they try to deal with their trauma feels so genuine that Rain often brings me to tears. I hope Emily is able to find some sort of resolution with her mother.
Oh my god they are so cute my heart can't take it. that right there is a good couple. when one is looking out of it talk to them ask them what's wrong that's wholesome right there.
I hate it when I get stuck in thought like Emily is. It always causes me to lose focus on the big picture. And it's always a sobering thought to accept someone you viewed as family sees you as purely disposable.
But Emily will be alright. She has people who love her and are willing to take her in. People willing to be the true family she never had before. Sometimes, it takes going through what she is to learn what a family truly is and how little blood can factor into that.
Phew, they mentioned lack of closure a few pages back. It’s like they don’t even know they’re in a gay webcomic. The indefinite hiatus monster could be listening.
