It's kinda not that important in the grand scheme, but I want to address panel 3. Because I wanted Emily to have read through a fair bit of manga, but as a slow reader myself, I don't know how to gauge how much manga a fast reader can get through in a couple hours. I guess it depends how verbose it is, but I can personally get through a standard volume of manga in roughly 40-60 minutes (and had Rain reflect that). Emily, I imagine, is a faster reader though. So I don't know if that's a realistic amount for her finished pile, but that's what I'm going with.
Anyway, ultimately irrelevant side points aside, I like this page a lot. It's so cute and funny, but it's also hard to ignore the layer of sad that covers it. I hope you all like it too.
I love this page!! I’m glad that Emily’s found a distraction and can lose herself/be happy for a bit.
(Also as far as manga goes: I’m a fast reader and I’ve gotten through an avg length manga as in as quickly as 15 minutes in the past, and usually in closer to 20-30 minutes, so I think reading five and a half in two-ish hours is reasonable!)
These two are always adorable. Btw I don't want any spoilers but are we gonna get a a strip involving music in the future. I know Vincent's the only character associated with music but it would be cool if one of the main characters is a huge music fan. Like IDK maybe Anna? Seeing how this comic has a lot of your common interests(gaming, manga, anime, etc) it would be a cool thing to add IMO.
Oh I've had this plenty. Friend was introducing me to a series they were getting caught up on in a pretty similar situation of both reading. I'd read through 1-5 whilst they had read 5 and 6
I liked this one; it feels warm and cozy, a nice afternoon in your senior year. Even in this situation, there are still such good times that can be had. What a good way to end the week, Jocelyn <3
Looks to be about two thirds of my reading speed, but by all accounts I am an exceptionally fast reader. Surprised people when I finished Battlefield Earth in slightly under 2.5 hours so I can easily see someone getting through Emily's stack in two hours.
At first it seems like the title "Absorbed" is about Emily being absorbed reading manga, but the last 2 panels reveal it is also about Rain watching + thinking about Emily
Depending on the Manga, and the average words per page... it is either on point or light for me.
My conservative count for Fiction reading speeds clocks in north of 150 Words per minute if I am *sucked* into a book. When I was younger, Tween targeted books were a 20 minute read, while most YA/Teen Novels were roughly an hour to read. Adult Fiction books were usually devoured in 2-4 hours if uninterrupted.
Manga Volumes per Hour is a tougher gauge for me as it has been along time since I could shotgun binge a series, but I have easily binged a hundred chapters of Manga on a slow day.
I just timed myself while reading a piece of fan fiction... I clocked close to 500 wpm. With those "how fast can you recognize words when they are in one spot and you don't have to lose time due to tracing the path of words on the screen and started to fumble around 900-1000 wpm.
So, yeah, speed reader trained by having a family of avid readers who all wanted to read the same book, at the same time...
This comic is absolutely amazing. I was introduced to it yesterday and here I am today, completely caught up. It was one hell of a rollercoaster to binge it that fast and realize it's still ongoing. I don't think I can express in words how much this comic has helped me organize my thoughts on my own, uh "issues." I guess what I'm trying to say is, Thank you for writing this, and I can't wait to read the rest.
My husband is a very fast reader and he can usually read about 4 or 5 volumes in an hour if he's really into the series. I personally can get through 2ish an hour. And he doubles me every time. I would place myself as average or maybe a little above average. I know he made it through all of reincarnation of a slime in 2.5 hours recently. He's a speedy reader. Haha.
I want to say 20 minutes per volume, but I'm not sure; of course it also depends both on how wordy the manga is, and whether I'm stopping to really take in the art.
I once watched a movie with my parents that I recommended to them. Partway through, my mom pointed out that I was watching them to see their reactions rather than watching the movie myself.
As a speedreader who basically just roars through graphic content, That pile is of a realistic height.
I've read the entire comic of Rain so far in less than 3 days with breaks and a slow-ish connection. I had to sleep and eat and see my wife in the hospital and do the daily things of sustaining life like cooking and showering and doing laundry because I can actually smell myself if I didn't. Great comic especially for the subject matter, I have read many trans* centered comics that got a little preachy at times and this by comparison has been mostly preach-free.

Does she like it?
Quick, glance away, don’t make it weird.
Okay, I’ll stare for a second. She won’t notice, I think, she’s too interested in the story.
And that’s the best right? If she’s absorbed then she must love the things that I love, and the things I love are a part of me, so she must love me!
I hope she doesn’t notice me staring . . .
But nerdier.
I love it.
Who am I kidding, keep it up. Rain is adorable when she is embarasesed
From potential highschool rivals to the sweetest couple they've both grown so much as characters
