Oh, the pitfalls of wanting to share the things you love with others, but your own obsession making it impossible to narrow down. I hope that's not just me. XD

Anyway, in case it's not super obvious, not a single one of these manga suggestions is real. I mean, they are real in the sense that these are all actual story ideas I've come up with at one time or another (whether as a comic or not). But they're not real real, in the sense that unlike a lot of brands and stuff in Rain, none of these are parodies of anything you could actually find in a book store's manga section. They're just real to me. Any similarity to any actual comic/manga/anime/whatever is entirely coincidental and unintentional.

Incidentally, I chose these stories because they're all ones I'm not sure what to do with anymore. Most of them are completely retired with no plans to ever go back to them (with maybe one or two could come back). This is by no means a comprehensive list, nor is it meant to be. So if you're wondering where one story or another is that I maybe talked about once a decade ago, its absence here doesn't mean anything. I really just wanted ten old stories that fit certain genre categories. ^_^

Other fun facts: a few of these (Lavender, Bleak Divinity, God Complex, Id, and Halloween Princess Pandora), are all old art that you can find right now. The other five (Everyday Life, Through the Eyes of Outcasts, Prodigal Hearts, Starstruck, and Birth of the Lilim) are all original art newly drawn for this page (mostly reworked from doodles from my old sketchbooks, but nothing available online). Perhaps I'll share fullsize versions of those someday too.

TL;DR, I've been writing (or aspiring to write) for a very long time, even long before Rain. Doing this allowed me a send-off for some of those old stories that took up space in my brain for a long time, and also allowed me to pad out just a small selection of the stuff Rain's been reading as her personal distractions.

Anyway, I wonder where Emily will start?

Rain, all characters and all other aspects of the story are copyright material belonging to me.

Apparently, people didn't know I was on Twitter? I should probably share that link more for people who might be interested. ^_^

She obviously needs to start with "Sunny" an oddly familiar story about a FtM guy who is starting his senior year of high school in a new school as his first year out of the closet.

I love this

It's canonically called "Snow" and it's a webcomic, not a manga:)
Dwere 9th Oct 2020, 2:49 PM edit delete reply
Technically speaking, they're both canon now.
Chrissy 9th Oct 2020, 9:16 PM edit delete reply
Snow cannonically is a trans girl....

They’re talking about Ryan (aka Collete if your still getting used to his new name and/or forgot it, it has been a while)
AriaArundottir 7th Oct 2020, 9:12 AM edit delete reply
Hmm. Which one is about magical girls? This is the one to start. Lavender looks promising too.
Kithindra 7th Oct 2020, 10:15 AM edit delete reply
If I'm not mistaken I believe Princess Pandora is a magical girl manga
Gabi 7th Oct 2020, 10:44 AM edit delete reply
Oh, that's a great idea! I, too, have lots of stories I've never written and probably never will. It would be nice to do something like this with some of them.

The inclusion of Lavender made me giggle.

Anyhow, here is Part 6 of the Rain Favorite Character Tournament! As usual you can vote for as many as you want, and the top four will advance to the next round.

I thought lavendar was like a parody title of Citrus or something.
Jocelyn 7th Oct 2020, 1:56 PM edit delete reply

Noooo. Lavender is actually way older than Citrus (which, itself, might not even chronologically be available in the States yet for there to even be a parody of, at this time in Rain).

But also, I didn't like Citrus at all. I found it to be extremely problematic and upsetting, and I simply couldn't stick with it. So probably don't anticipate there will ever be any nods or references to it in my work, even in parody. Sorry.

Would you believe I found a webtoon named Lavender?

I still plan to read your Lavender, though.

What a lovely use of old ideas, Jocelyn! It's sweet to see fiction in the world of Rain: it really makes the story come alive. I've felt this world is very active, breathing, it feels very much a story with characters living their lives. I do love these world exploration sub-stories.

Welcome to the manga rabbit hole, Emily.

Personally I like "Detergent", "Pyro Patrol", "Professor Slab", "All Plastic Magicians", and "That One Time I Was Sent to Another World as an RPG Character While Trying to Max Out My OP Magic Skills and Pick up Monster Girls By Accident?!?" Some of those are pretty old titles and might suggest holding off on the last one.

Those are some neat little Easter eggs to your past artwork. Pretty clever.

I wonder what the Rainiverse versions of Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss are like.
William Melton 7th Oct 2020, 11:28 PM edit delete reply
Probably well outside Rain's tastes. Even if Helluva Boss comes with the most adorable love song for a professional mass murderer that I have ever seen.
William Melton 7th Oct 2020, 11:26 PM edit delete reply
She should start with Lavender.

Hi! I found a link (2 year old link in fact) to this comic a week ago (Thursday), and I’ve been binging it until I just got caught up today (Wednesday). Wow - this is a very introspective comic that covers a lot of issues, but still manages to keep up the humor and running jokes (and continuity!) I really appreciate all the effort you’ve put into the comic and how you also take the time to reply to readers and add PSAs and other notes for hiatuses. Good work!

Just so y'all know, I've been without power for the since 4PM on Wednesday following a thunderstorm. I have no idea when to expect it will come back (the estimate keeps getting pushed back, and is currently giving a vague "tomorrow night" window). Hopefully, it'll be sooner than that, but I wanted to give the heads up in case this carries on long enough that I can't post today.

So if you see no new page today, that's what's going on. Whenever the power comes back, I'll do whatever to catch back up, but if I'm a bit late, don't worry. Worst case scenario, all the pages get pushed back a post day.

As for me, I'm okay. Bored as hell, and mostly sleeping to pass time, but technically okay.

Take care, y'all. I'll be back when I can. ^_^
TK 9th Oct 2020, 9:59 AM edit delete reply
Don't worry about it, just focus on getting your power back and surviving. At least the sun is a natural light source.
William Melton 9th Oct 2020, 2:56 PM edit delete reply
I hope power is restored quickly and all goes well.

If it is not, you may have to sacrifice an iPhone to the Dark God of Technology.
Noonerboi21 9th Oct 2020, 3:21 PM edit delete reply
You Take care as well!

Update: After two and a half days, the power came back late last night. It was, for the record, much of upstate NY that got slammed by this storm that we were not well informed about and not prepared for. Every estimated return time for the power would come and go, again, making it hard to prepare and work with. It was kind of a mess.

And of course, we're still in a pandemic. Any other time, if we've lost power, I'd just go to some local place to mooch WiFi and get food, but there was nowhere to go. Most places in our county were also without power, and I'm too high risk for the virus to stay in any public place for longer than I have to even if they were open. So, I spent most of my the time the last few days just sleeping, and somehow, I still feel terribly unrested.

Anyway, we just finished chucking everything from the fridge and freezer. When the computer came back on, it started chugging super slowly and I have to deal with that. And of course, I just lost three days of work since I basically couldn't do anything art-wise. It's been a sobering display of how dependent I am on technology.

Sorry to just come on and gripe. I guess I needed to vent a bit. ^^;

Anyway, as for the reason you're still reading: Rain. It's probably not what anyone wants to hear but I may just post Friday's page on Monday, pushing everything back one post day. Still kinda fighting with my computer as is, and I'm already several days behind now because of this, so it'll give me time to catch up stress free. Plus, since I don't tend to post on Saturday, I worry some people might not be looking for a page today. I think if I just wait until Monday at this point and pick up from there, it'll ensure no one loses a page.

I'm truly sorry for the inconvenience. But we'll get back on track on Monday, and everything comic-wise will be okay. Three day a week posting will resume then.
Guest 10th Oct 2020, 7:40 PM edit delete reply
I for one really appreciate sticking to the schedule rather than posting on a Saturday, so thank you.

Stay safe out there

Speaking for everybody, I’d just like to say that’s completely ok. Power out is a struggle, and nobody blames you for circumstances out of your control. Don’t push yourself any more than you need to. Your mental health comes first
Dandelion 10th Oct 2020, 11:47 PM edit delete reply
Oh gosh, sorry you had to deal with all of that, Jocelyn. I'm glad the power did come back on, but that sucks you had to throw everything out that was in your fridge and freezer. Of course, please do anything you need to do to feel more rested and comfortable. So many things were out of your control and you did your very best given the circumstances. I'm glad you were able to vent a bit, and I hope typing everything out helped even a little. Have a good rest of your weekend, and thank you for everything you do!! :)
William Melton 11th Oct 2020, 1:07 AM edit delete reply
I'm glad you're back, and I'm sorry you lost so much from the fridge and freezer.

If you have the space, maybe get a minifreezer and fill it with cold packs? Then next time power goes out, you can transfer those to fridge and freezer to help keep the contents cool for longer and hopefully lose less next time.

I hope the computer is not about to fail. Losing that after power trouble would not be good.

I think I speak for everyone when I say that we'll be here on Monday. And will be looking forward to the next page. Until then, take some time to relax? It doesn't sound like you were relaxing much while sleeping.
