Another Twitter art trend. Say what you will about me jumping on bandwagon after bandwagon, but it's what's keeping me motivated to draw these days. So I'll take it. ^_^

Anyway, #RedrawGameBoxArt is exactly what it sounds like. Take a video game's box and redraw the art. Either mimicking the original as closely as possible, or just adapting it to your own style. I went with the latter for this.

I used the original Super Famicom box for Final Fantasy 5 for this. Not just because I like the game, though. I chose to do this boxart because of the time of year. It's Fiesta season! :D

If you don't know what I'm talking about, there's this community challenge called the "Four Job Fiesta". The object of it is to play through Final Fantasy 5 using only four job classes randomly assigned to you (rather than changing at will between the 22 available classes normally). It's fun, it's challenging, it highlights the versatility of the game (as no matter how lousy your classes may seem, it's always possible), and it's for good cause (this year's pledges going to Minnesota Freedom Fund). I've been doing 1 to 3 runs every year since 2012, and it's turned FF5 into my favorite game of all time!

Please check it out if it sounds at all appealing. You can learn more and/or sign up through the below link if you're interested. The Fiesta officially starts up in just a few days. ^_^

Hiya! I’m super new to your comic but I already love it (I never new the journey a trans person has to go through I just thought they snip “it” off, give you a pat on the back and that was it xD)
I love your comic!

It's definitely a bit more involved than that. But I'm glad you're enjoying the comic and learning from it. Thank you!

I love rereading the entire series multiple times, its really quite great and is helping me a lot by distracting me from my dysphoria, I hope that your quarantine is not going too horribly
Jocelyn 14th Jun 2020, 9:59 PM edit delete reply

Quarantine hasn't been easy. But I feel like I'm starting to get used to it. It's still stressful, but I'm doing my best to keep myself occupied.

I hope things are well for you (and everyone else, of course) too. :)

1. Yes, I love your new avatar, too. Avatar-you looks very cute (but you look pretty cute in the pictures in your books, too.) BTW, is your IRL hair also green?

2. I'm guessing that the top picture is yours and the second one is the original one. Or have you started using a new style?
Jocelyn 14th Jun 2020, 9:53 PM edit delete reply

1. Thank you. I have dyed my hair green a few times, but my hair is currently my natural color. I haven't dyed it in a long time, to be honest (although I do miss it being green).

2. Yeah. The top one's the one I drew. The bottom is the original I based mine on. ^_^

I have to say I like your version better. :-)

There's something about the art style in the original that I find somewhat off-putting.

I like your new Avatar too. :-)

Yeah, it's kinda weird that the box has an art style where people don't have noses.
Jocelyn 16th Jun 2020, 10:44 AM edit delete reply

Yeah. Who would ever use an artstyle that doesn't include noses?

*nervous laughter
Dwere 22nd Jun 2020, 2:27 AM edit delete reply
No one I know would do that. *motions for Jocelyn to hide behind the podium*

Hi Jocelyn! I just finished reading your comic and it’s great!

BTW, your new pfp is really cool too.

I prefer your character art here more than the original box art

Off-topic but I can't NOT freak out about it in the trans spaces that are important to me:

That SCOTUS ruling!!

"An employer who fires an individual merely for being gay or transgender defies the law."

SIX-THREE DECISION, EVEN! Thank you Aimee Stephens!
bgb16999 18th Jun 2020, 12:22 PM edit delete reply
Unfortunately, it likely won't have much effect in the short-term, because in the U.S. most employers can fire someone for no reason at all, so an employer who wants to fire you for being trans can simply not say that that is why they are firing you. It's the reason people of color still face higher unemployment and lower wages even though they have nominally been protected since 1964.

I'm more excited for how this precedent can be used in the future to strike down other cases where laws or policies discriminate against queer people.

I like your chocobo better, seems fluffier.
M'lady Flapdoodle 16th Jun 2020, 12:21 AM edit delete reply
It's been quite a while since I've played any Final Fantasies (5's good, but my personal favorites are 6 and 4), I forgot how derpy the old chocobos used to be.

I have played IV so many times and loved it. Tried to get into V just as many times but the lightly colored art pallet is striking to me. I wish it had more color.

The best way to show me is to PM me either here or on DeviantArt. I'm not always great about checking my messages, but if I know something's coming, I'll keep a look out. ^_^

Oof! After nearly 2 weeks of binging the archives I am finally caught up. On the one hand I'm happy to finally be current but on the other this is the first hiatus I can't just skip over :(

Your comic has made me laugh and it's made me curl into the fetal position and sob (I had a mother very similar to Emily's so some stuff hit really close to home) and I've really also enjoyed seeing the art style improve and change over the course of it's 10 years.

I know the comic is starting to sunset but hoping I can interact with people on posts that aren't 10 years old for at least a few chapters :P

Hi Jocelyn!

I wanted to thank you for so much content. I heard about Rain back in late January and it's taken me all this time to get caught up (life happens, right?).

I finally starting coming out as a trans woman to close friends in January and am now almost 5 months on HRT. I'm in my 30's, so a late bloomer, but have had encouraging results. As terrifying as it can be to do this, especially during a global pandemic, I'm glad to finally be working on myself.

Anyhow I won't get too gushy. Thank you for sharing your art and stories! I'm looking forward to Moonlight Wanderer too!

Hey Jocelyn, I'm a long time fan of "Rain". I actually found it in 2015 at a pivotal time when I was learning about what all the feelings I had been feeling meant. Unfortunately I lost the upkeep because of dysphoria, depression, school, etc eating away at my life. But last year I picked it up again and re-read the entire series, as I started attending school as openly female(sounds familiar, but minus the stealth...I was already a flaming lesbi-ish[bi at the time]). And reading it it again made me super emotional, partially because like hormones, but mostly because it was so familiar (in some disturbing ways, but mostly just vague comforting similarities). Now looking back I realize that it was creators like you who truly helped me grow my confidence being myself, I guess hindsight is 2020...*groan* I can't believe I wrote that. So i know you don't know me, but thank you; you, Rain, and all her beautifully colourful friends have saved more young lives than you can imagine... including mine. So thank you, thank you for this 10 year gift to the queer community.

P.s can't wait to see how it all goes from hear :)

P.p.s I know its late but HAPPY PRIDE-ish month.

I have an idea on what to do for the finale. It sounds ridiculous but I want Vincent to reunite his band Toaster on Fire one last time to perform for Rain and her friends. That would be Awesome

And I have arrived at the present
I'm glad I decided to check the comments on the last pages of Rain on SmackJeeves
Looking forward to the next chapter

I’ve been thinking about the four job fiesta and ffv in specific ever since you posted this page. I ended up going through my closet and pulling out my ds lite and copy of ffv advance and I’ve been putting hours into it for the past few weeks. I got my gf to play it too, and she’s really into it - she was so mad that the party just leaves
Boko outside the pirate cove.

I had forgotten how fun ffv is, so thank you for this comic and for bringing it back into my life. <3
