At long last, Emily opens up! Well, the secrets were already out by now anyway. They knew the pregnancy, and moments ago, they confirmed the sexuality. But now Debbie and Holly know why they didn't find out sooner... and they take it rather well.
And for what it's worth, when they found out about the pregnancy, both Debbie and Holly did react rather badly. But time has passed and they've had a lot of time to think. They've even actively expressed regret, concern, and support since then. So this shouldn't seem so unlikely. This has been coming for a while. Everyone wants to be past this.
Now, I feel it's worth mentioning that this doesn't forgive everyone's behavior up to now, nor does it mean the three of them are back to being besties with no hangups regarding how different Emily is now compared to how they've known her for years. But for now, this is okay. This is a step in the right direction. ^_^
Awwww this is such a cute page <3 Debbie isn't such a bad person; she's just had her issues, and she can work through them, which she's shown here <3 This is a such a great way to continue the aftermath <3
While I like how it ended up, I really think Debbie would have been right to call out Emily for making assumptions about her and Holly.
Emily should have been the one apologizing, and Debbie and Holly couldn't have been judgmental over a situation they weren't informed of. I'm not saying that these friends should have broken up or anything, and again I like the end result. But how the story got there I feel was a bit of a misstep.
I've been looking forward to this conversation for a while. I always felt like Emily was making a mistake in just distancing herself from Holly and Debbie the way she did. It's nice to see at least some level of reconciliation.
That being said, I'm quite interested to hear Debbie's story about how she came to know the things that Emily wouldn't have expected her to know. I suspect that at least part of it is that after clocking Rain in Chapter 32, she did her research and actually gained a fair understanding of Rain's situation, which would also explain her turnaround on the matter at the Prom.
Whoops, let's have another go at the comment I was trying to write...
There's been a few comments earlier on suggesting that Debbie could be related to Vincent on the basis of the two of them having similar hair colour and skin tone.
I'm not sure about that theory though. We know from Vincent's backstory that he ran away from everyone he knew before he transitioned. Given that he never tried to reconnect with Fara after transitioning (despite knowing she was a trans ally), it seems fairly unlikely to me that he would have resume contact with family.
Whoa whoa whoa. We have a panel with lots of crying in it, Rain is present, and she's not the one crying? I think we got a convincing fan comic here, guys! Someone tell Jocelyn that she's got a convincing copycat!
Rain was most likely afraid that Debbie was going to out her to Holly since Debbie apparently has logically deduced that Rain is transgender, quite a long time ago but actually much to my own surprise, Debbie is surprisingly very well understanding thet if you’ve figured out somebody is transgender all on your own, and haven’t been explicitly permitted by them that it’s cool to talk about that or mention it to anyone else (outing them privately to someone else), and doubly so when the transgender person passes so well they’re easily able to be stealth. The correct, honorable and respectful thing to do is keep your mouth shut about your discovery and share it with abso-freakin-lutely NOBODY ELSE!
And much to my surprise because I didn’t read that level of honor and respect from Debbie’s apparent personality, especially given how much resentment she has about Rain’s relationship with Emily, I was expecting her to out Rain as a punitive expression of some immature need to “get even” and do it just to hurt Rain , like teenagers are often prone to do as expressions of emotional outbusts. instead, I’m kinda blown away by Debbie’s maturity and restraint, since she knows hurting Rain that way wouldn’t do anything to undo her own hurt feelings, it would only hurt Rain and make herself feel like a jerk for stooping that low, plus everyone else would think she’s a total dick and probably end up shunning her. Debbie’s a lot smarter then others realize and she stays modest about that too.
An understanding that she apparently didn't have back in Chapter 32 as she promptly attempted to out her to Madison.
That's why I think she's done some research in the meantime and come to this understanding in the time between then and now.
I'm with Rain, pleased to be wrong about pessimistic expectations. The double-page update and the whole feel of the second page carries an 'end of chapter' feel to it, but that doesn't seem to be the case? which is fine by me since there's plenty more to see from the cast (like Ky maybe?)
I feel like holy is hoing to come out as pantssexual. The little math panel from the last page makes me think she was reorganizing things in her self. Though its also wishful thinking so my crack ship of her and Ky in a polly relationship will set sail.
Pantssexual: attraction regardless of what’s in their pants.
I…can’t believe I hadn’t heard this mistake, nor my take on it, before. I think it’s pretty funny, and will probably try to wedge it into a conversation aomeday.
Really made me let out the biggest chortle.
Thank you Holly, I should never have doubted you!
What a nice way to start the week!

Emily did apologize. Second to last panel. ^^;

Just kidding. Or am I?
