Ky appears! It's cool having someone else in the public school, because now Ky can finally have scenes of talking with friends in the hallway. XD
Regarding Maria's "big, stupid ball of anxiety" remark, if you recall, Maria wasn't keeping in touch with Chanel after her expulsion. There's a lot of reasons. Chapter 36 goes over a lot of it. But the short, short version that culminates all of it, is that she had some serious anxiety. I relate to Maria more than I care to admit, in that regard. The good news is that she and Chanel are clearly in contact again, and working through this misstep.
Meanwhile, Ky hasn't had the best luck with crushes. There's been lots of ups and downs with Drew, but last we saw, they were speaking again and dancing together. None of this means they're a couple, though. And Ky's seen enough hiccups in their relationship to not necessarily feel confident. Although Ky shouldn't have to settle for a partner they aren't sure about, that doesn't necessarily make being alone and talking to their friend who's gushing about her partner any easier.
Don't worry Ky, these types of relationships take time and commitment to develop. So whether it be with Drew or someone else, you'll find something you like eventually.
It's okay, Ky. These things take time to develop. I know that while in high school it feels all-consuming to be alone, but things change.
Look at married people. Only a TINY percentage married people they were involved with in high school. Being (or not being) in a relationship young means little in the long run.
*not related to the topic but.....*
I wanted to say, I am also gender fluid (like ky) and will be going out as a female (I'm assigned, male) for the first time! (I'm 13 and just got into high school, and its the 8th week, let's see how this goes!)
