Fun fact: Throughout much of the comic, I've been asked where these kids want to go to college or what they want to do with their lives. I emulated that question with Ana addressing here how it's "weird" that they don't talk about it. Truth be told, I couldn't tell you what any of my friends in high school wanted to do or where they planned to go to college either before graduation. Like Gavin says, it just wasn't what we talked about. Some call it a plot hole, but this prominent lack of discussion on the subject just felt natural to me. Of course, your mileage may vary.
But it is the end of the school year, so maybe I should start to bring it up a little (just a little). XD
Plot hole XD
I finally met someone that I'm super happy with, and we're just psyched to be around each other all the time. I'm constantly saying that this seems like a really unbelievable plot line and that it's too cheezy to ever make the bestseller list, so I can relate to this comic :D
Are her hairclips and earrings a different color now or am I just an idiot? I know they were green at prom to match her dress but I feel like they're different from the last time we saw her before prom.
Certainly better plans than I had. I dropped out of high school to enlist in the army.
It was only after Timor and Afghanistan that I went to uni. I wound up at UNSW after doing the STAT, which isn't half bad. But if you told a 16 year old me that I wind up an academic I would have called you that 'nerd stuff' and me don't mix.
I mean it was just a job. And it was the experience of a lifetime. Did a lot of good work in East Timor, and honestly I'm doing a lot of good things through the university. Like making better predictive modelling of TBIs to encompass explosion related axonal shearing events caused by overpressure events.
The neuropsych research we're doing now will help veterans and civilians of current and future wars by greater predictive modelling of things like explosive force pressures and their effects on things like the cerebellum.
Funny how life turns out. As a kid I was only interested in machines.
University is one of those things that people will only benefit from with a few years of inspiration. Like watching soldiers struggle with PTSD and despite it being an anxiety related disorder (environmental), soldiers who have experienced explosion-related TBIs suffer them at a higher rate.
Leading from this I grew an appreciation for psychology and understanding how the brain works.
Anybody else just dying to see Gavin suddenly boldly and passionately kiss Ana right there in the hallway, completely oblivious to whoever might see them,... with Ana of course swept off her feet and melting in Gavin's arms? Methinks that would be so fitting after that expression on her face in the last panel.
Yeah, my high school was a bit like this, too. We knew the one kid was going to Notre Dame at the start of senior year, but everybody else? Generally, we found out after the graduation ceremony, if ever.
I think the only one that really surprised me was the guy who decided to go to Catholic seminary, because he was gay. Admittedly, his was, of course, decades ago when most LGBTQ folk were in the closet, and more were stuck in Questioning because they were terrified of being the social pariah that they'd be if they were whatever they deep down knew they really were.
Well allow me to welcome both of you to the pain of having to wait for every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for a new page to be released. It's usually worth it though. Especially for the rare double page posts.
I didn't knew the existence of comics about trans and queer people and discovering this was such a moving experience that I caught up with it in 2 and a half days.
We talked about uni a couple of times in my Further Maths class, but that was probably because it was a Further Maths class. Everyone in there was academically gifted and was going on to study maths-related courses, so it was only natural. I don't really expect these kids to talk as much about it - they've got enough going on as it is!
