Non-prom finally starts to line up with one of the bigger events at prom. Though we already know how that turns out from the last chapter, it's still rough to sit around not being able to do anything and help in the moment.
On the plus side, this news does seem to help Jessica start to actually talk to Aiken.
I’m probably not alone in hoping this “scene shift” ends up with Heather and Kellen walking back in: surprised and speechless, to catch Jessica and Aikin embraced in a passionate kiss (initiated by Aiken).
Perhaps. ... That would be cool. But not right away. If it is going to happen, there's a lot they really need to get clear between each other. They need time before any such developments may occur.
It's not expressed well at all, but the idea I was going for is that he's sitting on the arm of the couch. In hindsight, I should've probably hung the camera a little lower to make that clearer. ^^;
Hang on... has Jessica ever actually seen Aiken and Rain interact? At Christmas she turned up after Aiken had already left, and I don't recall them ever being all in the same place at the same time.
No. Technically the three have never been on the same scene together. But I'm not sure that matters. If you know someone well enough, you might be able to predict how they'd respond to something. Jess knows Aiken, and by his reply, he knows she knows him.
I'd argue that how Aiken interacted with Rain was situational enough that she would have to have been somewhat familiar with how they interacted previously to be able to to be able to predict how that would have gone... That having been said I guess that she's spent enough time with Rain and Fara that she's probably heard enough of the story from them to gain the necessary familiarity. Too bad that didn't occur to me before I posted I guess, but thanks for the confirmation that my memory of the story so far wasn't failing me in any case. :-)
Cool detail I didn't notice until just now: Jessica uses italics when imitating what Aiken might sound like. She is good enough at using her feminine voice that she doesn't have to make a conscious effort to do it (hence no italics when she speaks normally), but that apparently means she does need to make an effort to use a masculine voice.
I hope you're wrong. Jessica and Heather are a far better match in every way.
