Before we focus on Jess and Aiken, let's turn to Heather (armed with copious amounts of sass) approaching Kellen. You can probably just assume all we're missing from Jess right now is more stalling anyway. XD

Regarding the last two panels, I'm sure no one's going to listen to me, but friendly reminder that "love" doesn't have to mean romance. Jess is straight and Heather's orientation has never been specified (and even if they were compatible, it wouldn't mean they have to date). Platonic love is a thing.

Platonic love is definitely a thing, but I do think Heather has a little bit of a crush on Jess. It might not go anywhere, and that’s fine, but she’s been kinda crushy.

I don’t know, maybe I misinterpreted some things. Debate me someone?

In response to what Larryn said: @Jocelyn, do we actually know Heather's sexuality?

Back in #661, Heather and Jess had been drinking and Heather mentioned she'd considered other women "all the time" but seemed a little hesitant about it (to paraphrase Chanel), I think she's Bi-ish.

I just assumed gather was going to wait outside or something. It's kinda cool she is just hanging out with kellen and having a conversation on even footing with kelleen. This will probably be better for her since she won't feel as pressured or talked down to and as a result will listen more. It'll be interesting to see how she responds to Heathers POV and Sass.

I'm pretty happy to see platonic love depicted well in fiction, given how often it is looked down upon.

Love doesn't have to mean in love. Like I love my best friend Fishy, because I care about her and she's an important part of my life.

I have a friend who i do love, but i love him as a brother from another mother. As we looked out for each other as kids, i'd help fight his battles, he help fight mine. Plus he considers my mum as his mum ^_^

Thank you for treating platonic love as just as important as the romantic variation! It can be annoying that so many people see relationships with their friends as below the relationship with their partner.

I think there are definitely going to be different perspectives on this page from people who've read Volume 5's "Chapter E", and those who haven't.

After chapter 37 ended, I managed to get out of the routine of always checking Rain (because otherwise I would be constantly missing it :P) and only now did I remember to check it again! So now I have caught up with chapter 38 so far, and I'm left on a slight cliffhanger!

I can't wait to find out what Jessica says to Aiken, and I wonder if Kellen is going to get the wrong end of the stick and think Heather and Jessica are in a relationship. Considering that lots of people who are ignorant about the topic seem to think that all trans people are straight (idk if Kellen knows that Rain and Emily are a couple), this might be another opportunity for Kellen to put her foot in her mouth.

Also, super cool to see that 2010-2020 in the corner! 10 years of Rain, wow!

Since we know Heather does have a history of making out with women... given the drunken makeout flings with both Fara and Jess... Looking at Kellen's expression in the last panel kinda has me thinking some far fetched, way out there crazy, totally unsubstantiated and baseless hypothetical thoughts. Maybe Kellen's always judgmental, always critical of everyone and pissed off at everything that she thinks should trigger her could be a sign of denial and refusal to accept the possibility that she is attracted to other women and is suppressing that she's either lesbian or bisexual and her refusal to face and accept that is what's making her be such an abrasive bitch?

And might we see a relationship between Kellen and Heather emerge? They do have some things in common... bluntness /tactlessness in saying the first thing what they feel about certain topics before thinking how it might be heard by others, both of them have overtly expressed their fair share of transphobic comments... or worse... based on ignorance and prejudices though one has behaved markedly worse than the other in that regard.

Now wouldn't that be a heck of a mind blower.... to end up seeing Heather and Kellen together after a drunken makeout fling.

And it would be even better to see Jessica and Aiken patch things up and rekindle and resume their romance, but I probably shouldn't hold my breath waiting for that to happen, blue is not such a good color on my face.

Heather likening girls (at least to a degree) wouldn't surprise me.

However I don't think Kellen is gay or bi. Some people dont have to be queer to be phobic or abrasive and the angery lesbian feels like a trope too much for joycelyn to use it. Her fear of change can come from something else.

I also feel like even if Heather and Kellen would work romantically it wouldn't be a good idea at all yet. Kellen is still trying to wrap her head around FtM and MtF identities. Non-binary people are valid, but for people like Kellen who dont get it and actively fight understanding things ky's genderqueer identity will confuse kellen even more and wont react well or be at all comfortable with it.

If Heather brings that into Kys life it will create problems for her relationship with ky. Haveing what is essentially your only family introduce and date someone who is abrasive or dismissive of you can make you feel like your family doesnt care.

Heather being heather would stand up for Ky. But then the whole dynamic would be heather caught in the middle of her partner and her sibling and that's a recipe for one or both of them to feel betrayed by Heather/as if she doesn't actually care. And like heather said she and ky is the only family they have. It's too risky to muck around and push it. If they were to be a thing I'd have to be after Kellen has grown more.

You know, I don't recall that Heather knew Rain was trans. Or was she not referring to Rain when she said "family" in this strip?
MavistheRainBeau 7th Jan 2020, 2:56 PM edit delete reply
I don't know exactly what strip it was, but it was immediately after Heather tutored her, back when she was still rather close-minded. I believe her exact words were "Yeah, I'm pretty sure Rain's a guy." Heather probably heard about both Kellen and Aiken, and also most likely knew when Ky saw Rain over Christmas.
