After some cute couply pages with Gavin and Ana, and then Maria and Chanel, we turn to Ky and Drew who... aren't really a couple at the moment. I kinda agonized over how to establish this while still letting them dance together. Friends are allowed to dance with each other and not have it mean anything romantic, after all. I don't know how well I pulled it off, but I guess I'll see when the comments come in. I'm not going to say it's hopelessly impossible for them to become romantic, but they have a lot to work through, and it's gonna take more than "sorry" and a dance to fix things.

And hey, maybe they are just better as friends.

Either way, I like this moment a lot. Contrary to Drew's fears through half the story that Ky would throw him under the bus and out him, Drew's doing this of his own volition, and Ky is giving him an out if need be. It's just super positive, and just a feel-good moment to me.

Besides Ky and Drew, this page also features Colette and Aidyn having a more brief and less cute exchange. Mostly, this is just leading into the next few pages, so I suppose I'll leave it at that for now. We'll see where this goes very soon.

Drew trying to unlearn his internalized biphobia for Ky is honestly adorable
I hope they get back together at some point, but I also hope they don't rush it too much

I'm excited to see what happens to Colette along his way to the restroom, he could use a distraction from his date being a pain about the Blazer.

I'm glad Drew is starting to have fun and not think about his issues.

I suspect Collette may be going to talk to Gavin. He kinda figured it out that Gavin knew something, but we don't know how much yet.

I want to be annoyed with Aidyn, but
a)He doesn't know why Colette is wearing a blazer, and
b)Like most other students in this school, he's probably pretty sheltered.

Here's hoping he learns before the end of the series.

Aidyn's got my sympathies. He's on a date, it's kinda going south, he can't understand how or why, he just knows his date's suddenly chummy with another guy and walks around wearing a sign of that.

And explaining to him here in the thick of things why there's nothing to worry about would be a bad idea.

I ship Drew & Ky because they're relentlessly cute together, but I admit they're not exactly sweeping each other off of their feet - no blazing flames of passion, few shared interests, not all that much in common, they kept each other's confidences but that did NOT work out. They are (or were) genuinely attracted to each other, but mostly just because they find each other interesting.

...then again, my grandparents didn't get together because they were madly in love, they just found each other very interesting, and they stayed together for over 55 years so maybe I should stop talking.

I don't necessarily think Aidyn is being transphobic. When Collete first put it on, he was more upset about Colette wearing another guy's blazer than anything since he's the one who came with Colette. Fingers crossed it ends with him offering to just give Colette his blazer.

My first thought was that aidyn finds it weird his date to the prom is wearing another guys jacket rather than that colette was wearing a jacket at all. He could still not like the at all part, that was just my first thought.

I wonder if Colette is gonna find Rudy and dance with him instead of Aiden. They would make such a good couple

Ky and Drew... le sigh. i was wondering when we were going to get back to them. its a cute exchange that may lead to more serious things down the road, but is a good sign that they can at least be friends regardless. at this point though, i think Drew has finally got it through his noggin that Ky is the same person as Ky, and that trying to force them into any specific role wont work... so he is rolling with the punches at this point per se. past that, he is obviously struggling with trying to come to terms with his affection (for lack of a better word) towards Ky and his internal struggle with trying to not appear 'gay'. and more pointedly, that its not something to be ashamed of one way or the other, just something to learn about yourself and figure out what it means for you no matter where you fit on the rainbow.

Colette and Aidyn. I don't think Aidyn is being phobic here. but more of feeling dejection and maybe even rejected a bit because 'she' is wearing another guys jacket and that 'she' didn't ask HIM for his or even give him a chance to offer it. and i think that he was going to say as much when Colette cut him off in mid sentence. we don't know what he was going to say, but i don't think it was going to be along the lines of 'a girl wearing a guys jacket' after seeing Rudy turn into Ruby and Ky go flip flop as well. If he was going to say something trans-phobic or bigoted, it would have been towards them to begin with and then trickle down to Colette... and i dont recall him doing so.
I have a feeling that Colette is heading off to attempt to do some silent brooding or crying, then Ruby will 'stumble' into her and start a conversation and cheer her up in some way. after all he is the only one that knows her secret and that 'she' might be having a bit of an emotional panic attack in this situation, being the prom.
