Yay! This meant/means so much to Emily, especially given she thought she'd lost all shot at the title. She wasn't my vote then, but she'd absolutely be my vote now. I'm so glad she won! :)
I think they are implying, somehow, someway, Rain will be crowned prom king because she is technically (but sadly) registered as a male to the prom, thus, people will learn her secret. Which is my fear as well.
I'd be cool with that. Randy seems to be a good guy who never had problems with anybody and is definitely deserving of finally getting some special recognition.... for someone who was just "some random guy of few words and less significance" at the beginning of the saga. Every unsung underdog deserves their 15 minutes of fame.
The whole Rain being named prom king seems highly improbable, being that no one in the school has ever heard of a kid by "Ryan" let alone it being Rain.
I'm re-reading... Jumping back to when the ballots were shown, and she's only listed as R. Flaherty, and all the other charecters that I recognize in the column she's in are guys.. (Drew, Randy, Gavin) while all the charecters in the other column that I recognize are "girls" (Debbie, Emily, Colette, Molly, Maria). I'm including Colette in the girls list, as he's definitely not ready to be out yet. While it's obvious now this isn't happening, it would have been really interesting if the winners were both trans...
Even with her having said she doesn't really want to be prom queen, I'm a tiny bit sad it wasn't Rain... Ah well though! Go Emily! Still get to have that perfect end of the year after all, even if you've left the rest of that behind!
Now, who's gonna be king, I wonder...? I'm sort of feeling a disconnect. I can actually imagine Emily winning here, since despite being narratively told that her popularity has suffered, every named character we've seen who used to like her pretty much still does. But with king, my inclination is to say that there's no real sensible way that both the readers and the people at school would agree on a guy, since the men in the main cast aren't notably popular. Unless it's Randy, I suppose. Everyone likes Randy.
(Also also, Jocelyn made comments that we'll know the poll results at the end of the month, iirc. I wonder if we're gonna get a quick dramatic intermission of some kind, like Todd somehow interfered with the votes so he could be king, but then the heroes unmask his deception and find the true king... The phrasing of which makes it sound far more important than it is.)
The specific wording (for those who didn't see this the last time I shared it) was this:
"By the end of July, the King and Queen will be announced and we'll know the winners, at last. And following the reveal, I will share the final tally of how everyone voted."
Remember, everyone, that Rain LITERALLY CANNOT be crowned Prom King. Jocelyn decided Prom King and Queen based on our votes in the reader poll, and Rain only appeared as a choice for Prom Queen on the vote form, and not as a choice for Prom King.
I care less about who specifically wins the prom king crown, and more about the overall experience being a good one. But I think we're in good hands with Jocelyn, so I'm not worried.
Awesome
My speculation would then be Gavin is gonna win it, which I hope doesn't upset Ana
