Rain presumably goes separate ways from Ana off-screen and returns to Emily, who is apparently still talking to Devon since the last time we saw her. http://rain.thecomicseries.com/comics/1173/
I don't know if I have much to add for now. We may have to just wait until next time to see how Rain responds to this. But it might be worth noting that Devon didn't seem particularly bothered/interested in Rain's name previously. So, where is this coming from now? http://rain.thecomicseries.com/comics/1139/
I was just thinking the same thing. I've definitely heard of girls named Ryan, and Rain can easily explain it away as she just doesn't like that name and changed it.
She could easily explain it as yes that’s her legal name and at her old school, after her mother died she was always in a gloomy mood that a classmate called her Rain instead of Ryan and the name just stuck, and she likes it better and adopted it as what she wanted to be called. Not for the gloom of a rainy day anymore, but now for the symbolic cleansing and renewal that a good rain in springtime brings.
I think it's an understandable and reasonable question because Devon just hears a lot from random people and I think he's just curious. Note, he never asked if Rain was a dude just if her name was Ryan.
Well Ryan is technically an ambiguous name anyways. It is just that Rain prefers to change it later. Nothing
inherently clocking about the question or her answer if she words it right.
The bit about Rain and Emily starting off the beginning of the school year as potential adversaries and then becoming close friends is very normal human psychology.
Anybtime there’s a strong emotional response, either positive or negative, when two people first encounter each other, it’s not uncommon for them to become quite close later on. It’s the strong initial emotional stimulus at the beginning, either like or dislike, that is the beginning spark of interpersonal chemistry between the two.
With the slow change in Rain's mindset as she seems to care less and less about being stealth, I wonder if she comes out here in the next few pages (at least to Devon), rather than try to think of a zany antic to sweep it under the rug.
we have all been hoping this moment would never come, but dreading WHEN it would. the look on Rain's face in panel 8 screams "OH $4*7!". however, if you remember back to "androgynous name" #1130, the check-in person mentions its an androgynous name AND there was a bit of a group of people there at the time Rain and Chanel checked in, to include Debbie. Debbies Date (cant remember his name) then brings it up TO Devon specifically back in "Nicknames" #1139. Devon didnt seem to be that bothered by it, but he seems like the kind of person who would want to know what her real name is since it was brought up in this odd way, just so he knows the truth and wont mess it up somehow in the future. so it seems only natural that he would find Rain and ask her whats up with 'the Ryan thing'. and his face sort of lends me to assume that's what it is in panel 7.
in the end she can explain it away in any number of ways, from complete and utter BS, all the way to the simple 'yes, but i go by Rain'. I hope she regains her composure quickly though, and just goes with the simple and short so they can move on with their night.
I'm interested to see Rain's response, but I think no matter what it is, Devon won't make a fuss. He doesn't seem the type, and actually seems to be one of the more tolerant people at that school. He's just genuinely curious, and there's nothing wrong with that (as long as you don't cross any boundaries, of course)
I have been wondering why Rain and Fara are not going with "her name is and has always been Rayn but letters got reversed somewhere and fixing it is hard because government." Close to original excuse but less nebulous.
The time where Emily started joining the Queer Group was a bit after Christmas with Rain's brother, right? (And she CO'd as pansexual)

Also I wish Rain will just play it as like… a slight name change like some people would do for whatever reasons (sounding, meaning, …).
I just read through everything so far(from comic strip 1).I am trans, but not out to anyone and this whole comment helped me understand a lot of stuff, you should be proud of the effect of your comic on people!
I mean, honestly it isn't. It's her legal name, but not her real name.
At least Emily is here. Otherwise Rain would probably do a lot worse in responding.

That's all she needs to go with. No explanations.
Long answer: No, unless you use the dumb definition of "the name that is in the books of law".
Since the beginning, actually. I've posted Rain on Comic Fury, SmackJeeves, and DeviantArt at the same time from the start. ^_^
