We close out this week with Maria and Chanel continuing to talk. Things aren't perfect, but the two of them are basically on the same page. This is going to need more time for a full recovery than I can reasonably depict in a couple minutes in the lobby outside prom, but they clearly both want to get past this. They're happy together, and seemingly incomplete when apart.
So they're going to do what they can. For each other and themselves. :)
uhh actually Maria was expelled because she was caught protecting Chanel. And she had to leave because otherwise Mr Strongwell might have taken her to conversion therapy!
So I think Chanel is being a little harsh. I get that she was upset, but framing it as if Maria "broke a promise" when it was entirely beyond her control is unfair.
Chanel isn't at all blaming Maria for the circumstances in which she left. She's simply disappointed that Maria didn't make an attempt to communicate with her even once. Implying that Chanel did try but got no answer, assuming that wasn't actually depicted in-comic.
And the way she's voicing her displeasure doesn't even have a hint of harshness. If anything she's being gentle with Maria. I think they're both handling this very maturely and I'm proud of them honestly.
Since the complaint was about the lack of contact between the expulsion and the prom, rather than the fact Maria was in hiding at all, I think Chanel has a point.
That having been said, depending on how vehement Mr. Strongwell chose to be in his stance, the "in the box" answer on how much contact Maria could have afforded could have been basically the contact they had. Most of the cast had access to how vehement Mr. Strongwell chose to be, but Maria didn't, as far as I know.
Of course, that leaves out of the box approaches. What springs to my mind would have required assistance from much of the cast to have a "innocent group outing", which just happened to encounter Maria and co. Since Maria was mostly staying home and working, this would have been difficult to pull off, but not impossible.
That said, there should have been a way for Emily to communicate to Blair that Mrs. Strongwell put her foot down, so Mr. Strongwell wasn't able to be very vehement after all, and then open communication channels.
... and I'm noticing that Emily isn't part of the main cast, and Blair doesn't seem to be part of the cast. Of course, that's because that's the way it was back in 2013 when the cast page was last updated. And really, I greatly prefer more regular story updates to more regular cast page updates. I'm just commenting my surprise at how long it's been.
I'm one of your newest fans, having read your entire Rain series in about 5 days. Love your art and very well constructed storyboard covering complex issues.
I'm seriously bummed that I have to wait now for my next Rain fix!
Maybe I’m forgetting if this was addressed, but is Todd showing up at prom or is he not allowed to go or was he kicked out of the school or what happened to him? He’s basically an Incel with the way he acts and how he treats women and also how he treats any non-traditional kind of person. Also he seems entitled. I think I’m primarily worried about him showing up, what might happen if (I think Debbie) figures out the mystery of Rain registering for Prom as Ryan, what might happen if one of the people at the admissions booth figures that out and reports it, so many things that could go crazy.
Just a reminder that not only was Todd forcibly transferred,he was also a Junior and thus unable to make it to prom without a date, as opposed to Maria, who transferred/was expelled, but was a senior and had already purchased her tickets

Man, I miss that innocence when I could say stuff like "no more broken promises" and believe it
