Firstly, there are probably a few names you don't recognize on the nomination card. That's fine. When I had you all voting for prom king and queen a year ago, there were a total of eleven characters to vote for between both categories. In favor of using an even number here to keep things nice and clean, I added a couple names. Sure, I only had to add one, but I threw in a couple more. Fourteen just felt good to me.

Don't worry though, this is a purely aesthetic decision on my part (by having people we don't know, it just helps make it not look like the main characters are the only kids in the school). So, if they weren't on last year's poll, they're not winning. No weird cheating results like "I know you all voted for [blank], but I'm gonna have this random nobody you've never heard of win!" No, no, no! That'd be a jerk move. Although, they're not exactly nobodies. If you're a long time follower of my DeviantArt, you may have seen those extra names before, as characters from old, abandoned stories.

The other thing I want to address is the mention of the origin of the nominations: from "the beginning of the year, at homecoming". We never saw homecoming in the story, but it would've likely happened sometime circa late September to early October. You know what else canonically happened in that span of time? Nothing. There was time skip from mid September to Halloween between chapters 5 and 6. So, really anything could've happened in that time.

Now, I don't know if this is typical. Much, much earlier in the story, I asked readers how and when king and queen nominations were chosen for their schools (because I don't remember who was nominated or even won at my own prom, to be honest). I had a few readers say this exact scenario: homecoming. Others said the nominations were decided a week before or even at prom. Some said there were no nominations at all and you could pencil in whoever that night.

But I chose the route we're seeing here because it was the most plausible way to give a lot of these characters a chance of winning. Because at the time of homecoming, it would've been before Maria came out and while she and Gavin were still a "cute couple". Before Emily had foregone her queen bee status or gotten pregnant. Before Rain's hair was cut or before she publicly dated Rudy, "the only gay kid in the school".

Like Emily says, "A lot can change over the year." And looking back at the mindset of much of this school back then rather than now, makes anyone winning feel more logical or possible.

I worry this is a little bit of a clunky page, but I hope you'll enjoy it all the same.

Ah, good ole' self-aware jokes about this being a comic:)

How long have you been using your current avatar? (I checked the archives but I think it just shows the current avatar for everything)

I believe since the prom arc started.

Uh oh. Why is Rain listed on the left with all the guys? :(

Probably because her name in the system is "Ryan" which is a common boy name. Though this means that Rain could win prom king and Emily could win prom queen.

Don’t worry. When readers voted on prom king/queen, Rain was listed with the girls and only eligible for prom queen.

Readers voted, and the characters tabulating those votes are the ones who put Rain on the left. Oh boy. >.>

Is it just me, or would the Rain at the beginning of the school year have noticed her name was in the boys' column and promptly freaked out? Good for her. Pity it might've come in handy here. Oh well, lots of time for that.

Kinda wish Prom was a thing over here. We had the odd dance thing but they were always fairly small things and super low budget. Most people also opted not to turn up.

I'd like to compliment Ky's earrings, but this is not the time.

I know they feel uncomfortable wearing it, but I can't stop adoring Ky's dress.

I thought the first panel was Ky's gender changing
