Meanwhile in the lobby, Rain and Chanel finally hit the scene, to enact the plan to get Chanel into prom along with everyone else. In case you've forgotten: the short version is that non-seniors can't register for prom, and can only accompany a senior as a "guest". And of course this school would insist that a male student can only bring a female guest and vice versa. So with no other options readily or easily available, Rain offered to take Chanel to prom by using her legal name (still Ryan according to the school's records) to slip under the radar and get them there. And well, they're here. So, it worked, right? They got past the school, at least.
Well, I guess they still have to get through the check-in. But the reception hall staff shouldn't have any reason to care. Er... right?
Now, let's pause the drama for a bit to talk dresses! XD
We've already seen Chanel's dress on the last page of the previous chapter, but there's a few new touches including some ties in her hair and some fashionable sleeves that suit the style of the dress Maria made for her. In reality, I have a dress quite similar to this. It's not exact, but I remember thinking when I first saw it that it would suit Chanel very well. So now I've passed it along to her. ^_^
All things considered, it's a rather simple dress. But it's also very Rain. I added the flower to her hair somewhat last minute to give her a little extra pop though. Might have even been as I was drawing this page. It suits her so much now that I can't believe I hadn't been considering it all along.
The other thing I want to point out about Rain is: no falsies (outside of maybe a little built-in padding in the dress). Rain would be about two and a half months on hormones by this point, which is approximately the usual time when many trans girls will start to see breast growth (give or take; there are plenty of exceptions). It could be argued that there's little, if anything, visibly going on yet, so it's not quite her dream of having cleavage at prom. But this is still significant to Rain, as she's made it no secret that this is very much something she's wanted for a long time. What she has are hers, and she's proud of that. ^_^
The school may not want to allow it, but do the rules actually *prohibit* it?
It's hard for us to argue because we readers don't know what the specific wording of the rules is.
I'd be concerned about what suddenly going down cup sizes would do to her passing, but I think she's going to be outed before the prom is over anyway, so the point's kinda moot.
Methinks Brother Arthur had his own plan on how to get Chanel in. My money's on the next line being "how could they let one student register as a guest for two people?".
I once worker with a girl named... Ryenn, I think is how her name was spelled? But pronounced like Ryan, so hopefully the receptionist there is just surprised that a girl has a female guest at a Catholic school dance. And ofc they can explain that they’re just friends; no need to mention that they’re both dating girls, just not each other lol. So yeah, Rain using her legal name isn’t necessarily something that’ll out her... I hope!
My best friend named her daughter Ryan because that was her former birth middlename. Ryan can definitely be a girls name. My friend began transitioning about a half year before I began mine. Her daughter is adorable, looks just like a 10 yr old version of her now, more than she looks like her mother.
I mean, Ryan *is* a girl's name as well. I was confused upon first reading this comic about how she'd been born with a girl's name already. Now if there were a sex marker on the form...
Rain is finally here!

“I didn’t think your school would allow something like this.”
“Eh? Like what?”
“Well, your name is Ryan, but you’re presenting as female. Clearly you’re a transwoman, yes?”
(Everyone in the building turns their way. A babble of conversation breaks out.)
(Rain screams, and never stops screaming.)
(Yes, I am evil.)
I hope she gets in without too much people paying attention
At least it kinda seems like the receptionist is accepting them in… even if it’s a bit doubtful.
I so hope for it!
