Many of you were sure Gavin would catch on to what Rudy was saying sooner or later. In fact, many of you were wondering how he didn't figure it out sooner. To be fair, he doesn't know Colette or anything about him other than being this random person Rudy's been seen around recently. He has no reason to suspect anything. All Gavin really has is knowing Rudy pretty well. And now that Rudy's gone home for the day, Gavin actually has that moment to stop and think and realize... and feel bad about his prodding behavior all night in hindsight. Whoops. ^^;
But while a number of you were concerned about exactly this scenario, let's be realistic for a minute here. What's Gavin really going to do with this information? Sure, he was prying with Rudy, but he knows Rudy. That's just how they are together. He wouldn't approach Colette and ask weird questions though, right?
As a side note, with Rudy going home for the evening, I do want to point out we're getting near to the end of the chapter. Still a couple weeks left, but things will be mostly wrapping up soon (or building up for the next chapter). I've had a few people express frustration with the way this chapter has been paced, and I don't disagree. The scene shifts haven't been any more frequent than usual, but they have been more disjointed on account of having done two posts a week all chapter long (when I write the script, I tend to have three posts a week in mind, so cutting a day of posts messes things up). I wanted to get back to three a week after Volume 5 came out, but then the holidays slowed things down and I've had a few other life distractions come up.
I'm explaining all this because once this chapter wraps up, I'm gonna take a small hiatus to get my bearings back (maybe a week or two). And when the next chapter starts - that's the long awaited prom chapter, by the way - I'll return to three pages a week, and bring us back to some much improved pacing, and hopefully a better reading experience overall. Until then, two posts a week for the rest of the chapter (which is still a couple more weeks). I just wanted to give the heads up way ahead of time. ^_^
Haha well played J. That was funny. It might not be intentional but this page does some fun things with the background colours and Gavin's realization while still arguably just a pink wall and blue for night/emotional effect.
I agree, but I think it's in character of Rudy. He's been established as a notorious gossip and this is the kind of thing he where needs to be smacked into being quiet. Example: http://rain.thecomicseries.com/comics/pl/419523
I actually see this as progress on Rudy's part. I can see him yelling "he's a guy dammit!" earlier in the story, and this, while imperfect, is better than that!
Well dang. What happens after the prom chapter? We aren't nearing the end of Rain just yet are we? I feel like there are so many loose ends, we can't be getting that close
The folders on her Deviant Art seem to indicate that the author has plans for Rain to run at least through Chapter 44, so there will still be quite a ways to go after the next chapter.
As for what to do after Rain eventually ends? There are other great webcomics:)
Don't worry. While we are at the latter half of the story, there is indeed a fair few arcs I need to wrap up before I can call it "the end". I think it's safe to say there's probably at least another year or two of content.
As for when it is over, I still plan to write for as long as I live (writing is both my job and my passion, so I don't plan on just stopping). So if you've enjoyed Rain thus far, stick around after the end when I'll probably start hyping up the next webcomic. ^_^
Try your hand at a little screenwriting maybe???????
A made-for-TV movie version of Rain would be be awesome.... maybe an intro to Rain's background, highlighting events in her life from "I wanna be a mommy like you" up to settling into her first couple months at St. Halvard High, maybe up until the halloween party and then leave it an open ending.... kinda like a pilot for a mini-series. And from there, there is already several seasons of shorter episode stories already written, that would only need adapted for TV production. Find a real teenage thru early 20s transgender actress to play the part of Rain, the other characters would be easier to cast.
The time is right for the next transgender-subject TV series beyond Orange is the New Black and Transparent. And I believe a Rain TV series could be a big hit and change a lot of people's hearts. Look how many people , whose lives this webcomic has impacted.
Your story of Rain has that certain magical quality to it. It needs to be known by a much bigger audience now.
Somehow the moment Gavin got it reminded me of that moment in the first episode of Ouran High Host Club, when the last member and president of the club realized that Haruhi was (and identified as) a girl, and the last lightbulb lit up.
Been a while. Wasn't there a "Janitor's closet" type incident. We are still talking Gavin, but Ki rather than Cosette [By the way, there is a law that if you have a character called Cosette you have to make a reference to Les Miserables. (Even if it is just Cosette complaining about the constant references to Les Miserables]
People usually figure it out after enough of their hilarious verbal Immelmanns crash and burn when talking like normal people would've done just fine.
In the meantime, Rudy might want to consider investing in very sturdy boots instead of dresses. He'll be shooting himself in the foot for a while yet.

His name's Colette, actually. ^^;
