For those who think her line in panel 3 is a strange, random thing for Rain to say, it's just a Carrie reference (or Sherrie, to use Rainverse terms). Maybe she's just joking. Maybe she's overworrying. Who can say? But probably nothing quite THAT extreme is going to happen. XD
Other than that, I'm more interested in hearing your interpretations on Rain's feelings about this.
i loved the reactions that they had to rain in panel 3 and can totally agree with Rain on the whole prom queen stance. I remember my own prom, wasn't totally out yet and most probably thought i was just a weird gay guy (no offence intended to gay men) and for some reason i was repeatedly handed cameras to take everyone's picture when there was already a photographer there. ITs not a fun thing to do when you paid $60 just to go. So hopefully Rain doesn't get saddled with that lol
Personally, I think it's an old and well-known enough movie that she could make that reference, even if she hadn't seen it. Heck, I just saw Carrie for the first time a couple months ago myself, but even before that, I still basically knew the gist of what happened in it. That line was actually written before I saw the movie.
But I could imagine Rain having seen it. Maybe Fara showed it to her, as she is subtly established to like horror movies. Or maybe Rain just likes old movies. We already know she likes games from before her time, so why not movies too? ^_^
Tuesday was the 8th anniversary of this very webcomic (debuted Nov 27, 2010 with the single image of "A story for boys, girls, and everyone in between.")
@Jocelyn - Congratulations and Happy 8th Anniversary of the Rain Webcomic
Actually, today is the eighth anniversary. I count the day the first page went up, which was Nov. 29th, 2010 at exactly midnight. Comic Fury's weird clock claims it was six hours earlier for some reason (I really wish CF didn't cause unnecessary confusion like that).
But thank you all the same, and happy eight years to Rain.
My youngest sister is currently 19 and when she was in 10th grade (about 16 years old) she told me about how one person in her friend group didn't get the pigs blood reference from Carrie. Her words were "That movie has been around forever, how did (insert friend name here) not know about it?"
Plus, it's pretty commonplace to get a reference without seeing the source material. For example, "All your base are belong to us." Or, "You must construct additional pylons."
I hadn't played starcraft until about 3 years ago but I've known that line for atleast a decade.
Sometimes I'll watch a movie, see a scene and go, oh, so that's what people are referencing.
Rain predicting something Carrie-like would happen to her a page after I theorized it, lol. Btw, Jocelyn, I hope you aren't upset with my theory about Emily from last page. I was just thinking what could happen with that whole thing going forward.
Sooo for a while I’ve been kinda sharing my own story on and off in the comments, just because I think people can empathise with it and it can give hope too, just like Rain!
I recently had a job interview as myself, and got the job two days later!!! So I’m heading to the other end of the country in January and have been rushing to get paperwork done.
I’ve already got my driving licence and passport updated with my new legal name ad photo, which is such a validating experience, though it’s also a tiny bit unusual at the moment because I’m not used to it yet. But there’s power to having my name, the name I want, on a legal document.

A - Hate horror films.
B - Hate anything that wasn't made with CGI
or
C - Don't own a TV or streaming service.
Seriously if Carrie isn't shown every Halloween its every other Halloween. :P
It just makes me kinda happy. Cause it shows her own self confidence. That she doesn't need them to be a girl.
At least, I'm pretty sure she isn't wearing them, I might be wrong.
Though even if I am wrong she is still alot more confident in herself.
