We should hold the celebration ftm. There's still one card Quinton could have up his sleeve. He could know about Arthur's brother and threaten to blackmail him with it. In war, all sides have their plays.
Yeah, I know. Still feels good to see this, though. "Here's the complaints with all relevant documentation, and should you decide to destroy them and sweep it under the rug, I've already taken the liberty to send copies to the appropriate parties." While Arthur can be burned by the possibility of knowledge of his brother, it's unlikely going to stop these particular events from having due impact on Evil Incarnate.
And there are two ways Quinton could be chewed out for this. One, for letting Todd get away with bullying people, and two, for allowing gay people in his school in the first place. The more conservative, bible fucking parents would address this as well. The fallout these events are gonna be a mess no matter what. We're not out of the woods yet I remind you all.
On the note of "allowing" gay students, as I understand it, a lot of conservative parents that send their gay children (or even if they seem potentially leaning that way) to religious schools do it for the same reason expressed by the Strongwells. To surround them with the "morally just" to "show them their mistakes in life" or whatever kind of excuse they have.
I wasn't talking about people like the Strongwells, I'm talking about the kind of parents who'd just flat out lose their shit when they find out their children go to school with kids like Maria and Rudy. Regardless if Quinton and Todd go and Maria gets to come back, the board and Arthur could still face heat for her and Rudy's very presence in the school.
For those who don't remember (it was mentioned once in chapter 9, so I don't blame you - I didn't remember either), Arthur has a brother named Will. They don't talk to eachothers, because Arthur used to be very much not cool with the fact that Will is trans.
I see. That now leaves the question of whether or not this Diocese person will care about a couple of gay kids being pushed around. This is a delicate. From here on, we must tread lightly.
Ahh, but see it's gone far beyond "a couple of gay kids being pushed around" This is now a documented case of serial bullying, without any kind of disciplinary action taken against the perperator. (don't forget that not all of Todd's victims were LGBT)
Depends on when this is is set. Today the church tends to look down on bullying of any kind, the current pope has made strides towards that ideal that would’ve been dismissed by many catholic officials as little as ten years ago. But, it could go either way, im not religious by any means. But from the experiences i had as a child i’d like to think that people like father quenton are a shrinking minority.
Father Quentin is in charge of St Halverd
The Diocese is in charge of the district that the school is in
Essentially the Catholic Church has certain jurisdiction and can choose to deal with an issue internally without involving law enforcement. So they could remove Father Quentin and appointment a new head to the school in order to avoid a lawsuit
And that all depends on whether or not the board will care gay kids being harassed. Their either good like Arthur or fuckholes like Quinton. There is no middle line.
That's just the church's way of covering their own asses. Incidents of descrimination like thus are often covered up, but they need to be exposed so the right actions can be taken and justice served, and in the outcome of that I Todd expelled and arrested, Quinton excommunicated and arrested, legal barriers raised to Mr. Strongwell cant send his children away, Arthur to replace Quinton and allow Maria to return and roam the halls of St. Hallavrd holding Chanel's hand.
Forgive my ignorance but isn't a diocese more of a region, like a state or county, whereas the person responsible for a diocese would be a representative bishop/archbishop (like a mayor or governor) Then again "I've sent it to the State" meaning capital/governor is common parlance.
Its interesting that Brother Arthur seems to have gone from 0 to 100 very quickly, how much of Todd's behavior is news to him, and how much of this is Maria being the straw that broke the camel, so to speak. He is certainly taking this personally which might complicate things if he isn't careful.
You are correct but its common parlance. A diocese is not just the archbishop but also the churches administrators and lawyers as well. each normally employs around 25 or so people who would need to be informed of this kind of things for various reasons
Brother Arthur is bringing out the big guns for this confrontation with Father Quenton. There's something that caught my eye in the last panel. Is that fear I see in the evil incarnate's face?
@Ruth Compare the last panel on the previous page to the last panel on this page. Maybe it's just me, but in the last panel of this page, he looks different than normal. It's almost as if his resting evil scowl turned into a scared frown.
That was meant to be in reverse, let me try that again.
Brother Arthur uses legal documents, Father Quenton becomes confused. Brother Arthur then uses intimidate, it's super effective.
Wild-assed, off-the-wall prediction here.... probably the result of too much stress, not enough sleep, and the looming possibility of being diagnosed with having late onset Celiac disease messing with my head...... but here goes: The reason why Todd is such a bully and asshole and and Quentin does nothing to ever discipline himnis that Todd grew up fatherless, in a single-mom household. Doesn't know who his father even is.... he's illegitimate.... a bastard both literalîy and figuratively. But guess who Quinten had an affair with some 16-17 years ago? Maybe a young single woman parishioner in a local church at which he was pastor before he came to St. Halvard? Could even be that she eventually got married later, and maybe her husband doesn't like Todd and tthey don't get along, and that's another possible contributing factor in Todd's antisocial behavior.
Food for thought? A scenario like that is certainly plausible. 😉
Glad I'm not the only one that thought of this possibility. And it would really undercut Evil Incarnate's moral authority (in so far as in the perception of the people living in that world that think he's done nothing wrong).
So glad Brother Arthur did this. I've always had a bit of a soft spot for him, since he's always seemed to have a bit more compassion than the other admins at the school have. He did it the right way too, collecting several pieces of information and evidence and even going to the higher-ups before going to Father Quenton with his concerns. Even if the diocese has a bias against homosexuality, I'm sure they will do everything they can to prevent any lawsuits.
Father Quinton is many things. Cruel, bigoted, ruthless, cold...but I don't think stupidity is one of his traits. He's not an idiot and must have been fully aware of all the crap going on on his watch. I feel he has a strongly held reason why he hasn't done anything and I want to know what it is.
*** Just to make this 100% crystal clear - the above is *NOT* an endorsement of him in any way whatsoever. The man is fully deserving of the shitstorm bearing down on him. ***
I need help, I don’t understand who I am. I thought that this would be the best place to ask. So I sometimes feel like I want to be a girl, but it isn’t as intense as being trans, and sometimes I feel like I want to e a boy. This I know sounds a lot like Ky, but it isn’t, she gets depressed and all when she isn’t what she feels at the time. I don’t .Maybe I am more like Rudy also I’m not sure about my sexuality. I’m attracted to feminine bodies more than masculine bodies, but I am more attracted to the uhh... I dont know how to say this, Jocelyn forgive me, the male reproductive system. Though I am fine with most people, probably I’m pan. I’m confused so please help me.
Not everyone experiences intense dysphoria, in fact, some people don't experience any so you could still be gender fluid. Here's my advice, trying looking up the different possible labels for gender and sexuality, then try them out and see which ones feel right. I hope this helps.
I second the recommendation to look up different nonbinary identities. I have a friend who’s expressed feelings similar to yours, and they identify as bigender. It’s also completely okay to identify as nonbinary or genderqueer if you don’t find a more specific label that fits.
Whatever you decide fits you in terms of gender or sexuality, remember that there’s no right or wrong way to be trans, or LGBT+ in general. The important bits are all about becoming comfortable in your own skin, and living authentically. You don’t have to do or be anything to claim the trans label or any other, if they feel right.
Happy Pride Month.

Who you are attracted to, or which parts you find more attractive, are not related to your gender. I really like the gingerbread model seen here http://u1kwao9i7u9xyle2hibw4g6h.wpengine.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/Genderbread-Person-3.3.jpg
Just note: "two-spirit" is a term translated from different Native American languages, and is the English word for a concept they have had for a long time; it shouldn't be appropriated outside of their communities.
On to gender and the many, many messy sides of it. You seem to say you want to be both. Good news! You can!
Yes, KY has dysphoria on days where they feels one gender but can't express it; not everyone feels that. Some MtF or FtM folx don't feel dysphoria at all. Dysphoria is just one struggle or symptom, not the definition of being trans* or non-binary.
I spent years feeling that I didnt want to be female, and just when I was about to announce that I was FtM I found out I was intersex. Okay, I had a reason for the feelings, but I thought I still had to pick between staying my assigned gender or transitioning. Then I hear non-binary, "enby", agender, gender-fluid and so many other terms (gender*** from the 80's even made a comeback). Finding out that I could separate my gender from my physical was my empowering moment.
Hopefully, this thread can start you on a road to your moment.
Wooooh! Waiting for the diocese to really clamp down on this. Thankfully all the Christians I know are of the mind that while not approving or necessarily agreeing with the LGBT community, you should include and support anyone and everyone. No one is to be turned away.
On a somewhat related note I had my second gender clinic appointment yesterday. My bloods came back with 418mmol/L of oestrogen (self-medicating at the moment) which is like menopausal levels. I’m supposed to see my endocrinologist in a month’s time so I have that much time to get my parents to come round to this.
Plus graduation in 2 weeks, first time they’ll see me in a dress. An off-shoulder dress. Oh, their faces will be priceless.
I wonder if Brother Arthur is about to get the boot or be suspended for his troubles. Throwing this sort of thing in someone's face is usually a bad idea... especially if Quentin is in such a bad spot that unjust firing out of spite won't make his situation any worse. Even if Brother Arthur is eventually reinstated, it would make investigation that much harder in the short term.
I think ol' Quenton would learn very quickly that you should never contend with a person who has nothing to lose. And definitely, DEFINITELY never create one.
You know my first comment on Rain was on this page. On Smack Jeeves and it appears to have been lost in the big rework they had.
I think it went something like this: As much as Father Quentin is a terrible example of what a religious can be Brother Arthur is a shining example of what they are supposed to be. "Love thy neighbour as thyself" does not just apply to the neighbours who "look" like you.
So, back at a comic called.. Morality.. I think?
I was criticising Brother Arthur. And, I still stand by that opinion.
But y'know. Some stuff he did later already redeemed him quite a bit, and it's not like what was done then isn't done by most adults by mistake at some point or another.
And as for this particular comic? Arthur for the win! :)

Essentially Father Quentin's boss

*you then hear something slosh across the room and hefty splattering on the fan as something very stinky hits it*

This approaches stand up behavior. I learned (thankfully) years later that half the priests at my school were among the problems.

OHHHHHH DAMN, Arthur has stopped playing around.

Arthur is the MVP

I am absolutely here for it!
