Our principal, Father Quenton makes a rare appearance, walking through the halls with Brother Arthur, and talking about something relatively inconsequential to the story overall. But this scene isn't without purpose. It basically leads into the rest of the chapter (two more weeks). Do expect a bit of a tonal shift for what comes next.

As for what comes next, please feel free to offer your thoughts and expectations.

The next page will be up in a little bit. In the meantime, I want to offer a content warning as things are about to get heavy for the rest of the chapter. But I feel like the next two pages in particular could be triggering for some.

Maybe I'm overworrying in this case (I admit I have a hard time telling with this stuff), but I want it on the record just in case.

Definitely gonna keep coming back for more of this. I didn't binge the entire comic in a few days for nothing

A priest should know that the deadly sins were made up by a bunch of medieval priests with no formal training in theology or biblical study.

Also even then Virtues were seen as more important then sins.
Connie 9th Mar 2018, 11:08 AM edit delete reply
It's not even then. Being Catholic now, I can tell you that the Church acknowledges we're all sinners and still teaches virtue is far more important than sin. I can also tell you, however, that there's always assholes that don't care.
a different guest 9th Mar 2018, 3:37 PM edit delete reply
yeah but the virtue being talked about is Quenton's patience, vs the sin being Arthur's sloth, so there's not actually a contradiction.

Anybody else just pretend he’s Liam Neeson

Principal Qui-Gon Jinn, tryin' to get those Midi-chlorian readings.

I'm not sure about Quinten, but I read Brother Arthur like Ozpin from RWBY.

If Rain was ever made into an anime, I would picture Liam Neeson and Shannon McCormick voicing Father Quenton and Brother Arthur respectfully. As for Rain herself, I want a voice actor who can pull off a girl voice as well as a boy voice. So my choice would probably be Tara Strong. As for Gavin, No doubt Johnny Yong Bosch.

Not sure how I have never seen this before but I love it and I can't understand hear it. I read the "The Good Father" in Xehanort.

Judging by what we know about Father Quenton and what he says here it is easy to assume he's a very Old School Catholic (fire and brimstone vs love and forgiveness)

I sense problems for our lovable cast in the near future

J-Eagle you mean a puritan?

I could see it. The school's primary denomination was never specified was it?
thatguyinthecorner 9th Mar 2018, 3:16 PM edit delete reply
Puritans, actual self-proclaimed ones, aren't so much a thing nowadays. They definitely don't have many schools, anyhow, and expecting every practicioner of anything, including religion, to be doing it "right" is asking for disappointment.

I think it has been stated as Catholic, though I might be wrong. Quenton IS wearing Catholic priest getup, though, so it's a safe bet either way.

Oh noes. I predict there is an adorable Maria x Nelly Eskimo kiss around the just around the corner; and Quenton is about to ruin it.

I was told to check this webcomic out. I binged the entire thing in a week.

Yay Brother Arthur is back!

This is not going to end well, is it?
RubyRuthNeal 9th Mar 2018, 4:39 PM edit delete reply
If priests weren't supposed to be celibate, I'd swear Father Quentin must be Todd's biological father.

*Supposed* to be . . .

Just kidding, I don't really think they're related . . . though it would explain what they're both trying to compensate for :P

Does anyone else think Father Quenton looks like an older, meaner Severus Snape?
Rayga Tana 10th Mar 2018, 4:50 PM edit delete reply
Is it just me, but I can't help imagine Father Quenton sounding like anyone other Than Snape from Harry Potter.
Long Time Lurker 10th Mar 2018, 6:53 PM edit delete reply
I know it's been a while offline, but only a week or two ago comics time (I think), there were grade reports just before the fateful comic convention (that ended in The Haircut) and Rain just barely got a C or some other fairly low grade in Math. So I'm betting those progress reports are Father Quinton's attempt to look for an excuse to hurt Rain and her friends (or even just pull them out of class into detention in order to scrutinize them further).

I don't think he has any intention to hurt anyone, He's just following the belief he follows. And even religious extremists usually are trying to "help people" from there point of view.

Father Quenton will note that he has had a lot of flack from Mr. Strongwell. He will instruct Brother Arthur to solve things, preferably by expelling Rudy and Maria.
Damon Hill 11th Mar 2018, 4:47 PM edit delete reply
Yes, Snape, without any redeeming qualities. A glittery-eyed, scary fanatic Snape. With major life issues. Scary. Run away.

Hmm... if Rain's under the system as Ryan, is this going to lead to trouble?

"Sloth is a deadly sin."
Yeah, and so are Pride and Wrath, you fake-Catholic jackass.
Sara_L 29th Jun 2019, 6:09 PM edit delete reply
And he seems to misunderstand Sloth. It's not taking a while to do things that take a while to do, it's spending time not doing things when one should or working far slower than you actually can (a slow worker working as fast as they can but taking a long time isn't slothful, but a fast worker working slow would be even if they take less time than the slower worker).

The original deadly sin was called 'acedia' which meant, basicly, a failure to take care of ones needs properly. around the time of the industrial revolution however the church quietly changed that to 'sloth' because, in order to take care of one's own needs, one must work as hard as possible constantly right? god dosen't want a bunch of lazy people laying around! (despite the fact that apparently is what heaven, and also the garden of eden, you know, the two places he intended humanity to live according to the bible, are. everyone doing nothing they don't want, and living in peace. almost sounds like the bible says sloth = paradise)

basicly TLDR:

Calling sloth a deadly sin is centuries old bourgeois propaganda.
