Reintroducing Todd, the guy that makes everyone uncomfortable. I already explained this a bit on the chapter cover, but for anyone who doesn't remember Todd, he's a junior who bullied Rudy (both physically and emotionally) during the early portions of the story. Maria and Gavin both intervened in their own ways. Hence, he's been absent from the story for a very long time.

Hundreds of pages later, he finally returns to... ask Ana to prom!? What? Not even going into all the problems with his proposal (like how he doesn't call her by name or even really ask, for just a couple of the smaller examples), his handling of rejection is also pretty scary. And then there's the fact that this seems oddly pointless. They're both juniors at the school, and as has been mentioned, underclassmen cannot attend St. Hallvard's prom without being a senior student's guest.

So... why? What is this about? Does he just not know, or is there more to it? And is there any reason it would end up being Ana?

...Um. Wow Todd, Personal space is a thing that you SERIOUSLY need to take into account. He is scary as heck.

<.< >.> ....First....

God, Todd is such a jerk. I would love to punch him in the face. Or give him a long, wordy lecture about how rude it is to bully someone for their sexuality and to ask a girl out without even calling her by name....because that would be sooooo intimidating. xD

Somehow I got it in my head that Todd was a sophomore. I just realized my mistake came from the fact that Todd's hair and Rudy's tie are both orange.

I'm thinking Ana should've just pointed out that they're both juniors so they can't go together anyway and just leave it at that. I think it's best to give him as little information about you or your friends as possible. There was no need for him to know that Ana is somehow going to prom.

Not even lying I would legit punch anyone I saw doing what Todd is doing now. I don't care how much trouble I'd be in, you don't leave someone in a situation like that.

Poor Ana. I've been in that situation before, with a creepy guy who won't take no for an answer. It's actually terrifying, because there are so many stories of girls being assaulted or even murdered for telling guys to back off.

Oh, Todd! Todd! How I haven't missed your stupid face whatsoever.

Way to reintroduce this asshole. I see a throat punch in his future.

No contest: Todd is overly acting stupid by asking Ana out.

OK, so on one hand, Todd has spiky hair and is hot-blooded, both of which are stereotypical shonen anime protagonist traits.
On the other hand, he's a massive jerk and a blight on humanity, which is not a stereotypical shonen anime protagonist trait.
Artorigus 3rd Apr 2017, 11:30 PM edit delete reply
I see you've never seen the most stereotypical Shonen shows there are (some people prefer to call them "trendsetters"). Goku (Dragon Ball) is kind of an unsympathetic prick who only cares about a good fightm and Yusuke Urameshi (Yu Yu Hakusho) is a perverted, drug addicted, street-fighting gambler teen with a heart of, at best, copper.

A fair point, but are Goku and Yusuke transphobic?
Samantha 4th Apr 2017, 12:52 AM edit delete reply
Goku is actually pretty chill. He would probably just ask if transgender "is some type of food." He doesn't really get angry easily. That said, he's like worst husband candidate because he cares so little about pretty much everything. Job? Don't have one. Car? Nope. I think Chichi finally persuades him to do some farming, and I think before that, he was making money mainly from winning Budokai tournaments. He wouldn't do this though, he's almost asexual.
Yusuke, yeah, he's about this bad.

Artorigus 4th Apr 2017, 8:43 AM edit delete reply
Goku doesn't care enough about the concept of gender to be transphobic. Not that he'd be a sensitive, supportive ally or anything. He'd almost certainly call you by the correct name and pronoun if you asked, but his brain doesn't work in a way where he'd be able to understand or empathize with most of the struggles you'd experienced for it except the parts that involved physical violence.

Answering the question of "is Yusuke transphobic" is a bit perplexing. To put it simply (and yes, there is actual in-text reference for this, because Yu Yu Hakusho has had a trans woman character make a brief appearance as an antagonist) he's truscum. He recognizes being trans as a valid thing, but criticizes the trans character for not "making up her mind" (i.e. getting bottom surgery).
Mako 5th Apr 2017, 5:49 PM edit delete reply
I'd like to point out that Yusuke is also a teenager in 80's Japan, so that would be an influence on how he thinks. I don't think he'd be closed of to learning more and has the potential to be more accepting.I've only seen the anime though

Okay, I am VERY torn on what I want to happen here.
A) Ana punches Todd in the face.
B) Rudy runs in and punches Todd in the face.
C) Maria runs in and punches Todd in the face.
D) the entire cast of Rain runs in and punches Todd in the face simultaneously, killing him instantly. The rest of the comic is spent as they hide the body and run from the law. This does seem like the good choice here because Todd is dead but it distracts from the cute shenanigans, so I don't know.

If Todd does not back away, D will be the only option, I am afraid.
Artorigus 4th Apr 2017, 8:48 AM edit delete reply
I prefer option E. It's basically option D, except the police just high-five the cast and help clean up.
Guest 4th Apr 2017, 9:29 AM edit delete reply
No, option E is they leave no visible traces, there are no witnesses and they do a good job of hiding the body so as it's never found. The police get only a missing person report only but never a specific location to process as a crime scene. Hence, they never find any evidence and it becomes a cold case never to be solved.

Well that's hardly any fun.
